UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

Elfen Lied BD for £8.99 on Amazon.

No idea what like the show is, but I'll take a punt at that price.
The LE steelbook sits under my bed among the anime I know no one else will enjoy, as it features naked ladies on the front and I always grow tired of my brothers calling anime hentai. If you don't mind a bit of nudity (many of us on the site don't) and like dark psychological horror, you'll likely love it

Elfen Lied is quite the cult anime. I honestly don't think its as good as people think it is, and this is coming from someone who loves dark anime.

Does MVM immediately bump up the price on the release date? ZZ Gundam part 2 comes out on Monday, but if it loses its 30% discount I'll buy it another time.

Elfen Lied ranks as one of the stand-out examples of an incredibly divisive show, whether people love it or loathe it seems to know no rhyme or reason - I've seen people with normally very different tastes in anime join together in both their love of and their or vitriolic hatred of it. I've never really got to the bottom of why.

As someone who did enjoy it (though perhaps "enjoy" is the wrong word) I can maybe see how certain elements can be seen as a bit fetishistic which, given the subject matter, could leave a bit of a sour taste in people's mouths. But given it's primarily about people who are all pretty screwed-up anyway I didn't think anything seemed particularly out of place. I found it surprisingly thoughtful with a lot to say about abuse and human nature.

My issue with it is that nothing of any real interest happens imo. You see parts of their dark shattered pasts, and eventually reaches its dark, but sad ending.

I just don't feel much excitement from it, or got the things I look for in entertainment.

Does MVM instantly charge preorders or when they ship? If they don't then i might preorder something.

I'll weigh in on this one. If you use PayPal you "might" be offered Pay After Delivery as an option. It's typically the case for me with MVM but I've never dealt with a pre-order situation.

I have preordered loads of times and they take the money. I have had no issues canceling orders though.

Just had a go at pre ordering the Familiar of Zero collection, Pay After Delivery was presented as an option for me :)

Might be different when a coupon code is applied though. eBay took the Pay After Delivery option away during their 20% off sale.

I still love the series, though after a couple of years you can tell where the faults are, obviously the voice acting, some parts where the animation falters etc there is some fetishism I believe is adopted from the source, I mean a writer that knows how to create a story, but also putting something a bit odd about their own kind of fetish into the content which can come through in some relationships and where some characters seem powerless.
Something about the love/hate relationship about the series is also a bit outside the content of the series, and more to do with how it's been handeled. I believe Germany has the manga published, but no other European country meaning it's quite difficult to find in English, the series was done by sentai for the West (everyone has their own love/hate relationship with sentai) and first published by ADV films, but they shut down, the series was largely ignored then republished by anime 101, I don't know a lot about them they don't seem to be a big hit in the industry, though now after it's blu ray release it's never been treated better, with the LE going out of stock consistently
