My Valkyria Chronicles 2 has arrived! Charging up the PSP now in preparation for starting it later tonight.
I will also remind everyone here to remember your spoiler tags, as I am sure we will be talking about the story soon.
Edit: Played the first two levels. Really enjoying it so far.
Three characters introduced this far:
Avan, brother of Leon the goggles dude from the R&D dept of VC1. He is a scout.
Zeri, an intelligent yet arrogant bishi Darcsen guy. He is a shocktrooper. He is reluctant to work with Avan and Cosette because he feels they are below him.
Cosette, past as yet unknown to me, she is ditsy and daft, but also kind, caring, and optimistic.
She is probably going to turn out to be a Valkyria too. Nothing I have seen indicates this, but I have a hunch.
The setting is a military school, and the main enemy at present is a group of Gallian rebels led by nobles who oppose Cordelia's rule simply because she is a Darcsen.
Thats the gist of it so far.
Extra edit: I like the look of the class development so far.
Each class-up alters the character's stats, and each one listed here can be further developed into a choice of two others.
Scouts can develop into Scout Elites or Snipers, which are no longer a starting class now. Thinking maybe one of the Scout Elite branch of top tier classes may use machine guns rather than rifles. Just a hunch though and I may be wrong.
Shocktroopers can develop into Shocktrooper Elites of Gunners. Gunners carry a gatling gun and are slightly slower. Thinking that, if there is no machine gun Scout, that there will be a fast Shocktrooper with a large AP (movement points).
Lancers can develop into Lancer Elites, and Mortarers, now that the mortar using Lancers from VC1 have been split into a separate class.
Engineers can develop into Engineer Elites and Anthem Corps. Anthem Corp are musicians, and they motivate others and raise their stats through music.
New class! Armoured Techs are beefy heavily armoured soldiers armed with a Warpick close combat weapon, and a large bulletproof shield. Their purpose is to wade right in where intercepting fire is too strong for anyone else to go without being shot down. They can also disarm mines, which Engineers can no longer do. Armoured Techs can develop into Tech Elites which can place mines as well as disarm them, and Fencers, who are slower, but have awesome close combat strength can can send infantry flying with their attacks.
New vehicle type! The APC has a huge move range and can carry two infantry units. It can be fitted with a gatling turret at first. Its armour is very weak compared to the tank, however, and its HP is much lower.
Notable changes in game play:
No Sniper base class, Sniper is now a class advancement for Scouts.
Damage boost when firing from high locations, such as towers.
More options to develop individual squad members into what roles you want.
Option to change certain Potentials as and when you like.
Engineers cannot disarm mines.
Engineers carry Ragnaid, but no one else does. Therefore, certain potentials aside,
Engineers are your only healers.
Your main character, Avan, can be changed to any class you wish, and can develop them in the same way. I'm using him as a scout, personally.
You can choose your own squad name and tank/vehicle name. I called my tank 'Franky'. You can earn extra titles to put before or after your squad name, and hopefully your tank name too though I've not checked yet. Here's hoping 'Super' is available as a prefix for the tank name.
