Tracking for Rokka was awful. It was known last week that it wouldn't do well, probably under 1k, but less than 600 is awful. That explains why CR was desperate to push it at every possible opportunity.
I'd argue that it's one of the more popular shows on CR, hence its prominence. I could be wrong but when you open the CR catalogue, the most popular titles float at the top (hence why Naruto is always on the first line).

I wasn't talking about the catalogue page, I was talking about the 8 million different contests they've been running and the near-constant emails and the ANN advertorial. It looks to me like CR gave Rokka the biggest push they reasonably could have, around the 8th episode. At the time I thought CR might have been manipulating the chart to make Rokka seem more popular, but this would explain it.

Presumably whoever's releasing it knew it wouldn't sell well and was trying to ramp up international interest. The abysmal DVD/BD tracking figures were reported on twitter last week, so a lot of people knew it was going to bomb. I suppose fans just have to hope LN sales improved enough.

The light novels got more of a boost than Shimoneta and Kuusen Madoushi did, but less than Overlord and Gate.
Then again, it was a <10k seller before the anime (unlike Overlord and Gate, both of which had sold 20k+) and those don't see big sales boosts for the light novel. Shueisha (the publishers of Superdash/Dash X Bunko, which RnY is published under) would have known this and thus would probably be satisfied with the sales boost the serise has got.

Data on RnY light novel sales:
Oricon:
Series rankings: (total sales of all volumes)
w/c 20th July: 16967 (volume 6 came out this week and accounts for 7240 of those sales)
w/c 27th July: 13330 (of which volume 6 sold 5048)
w/c 3rd August: 10864
w/c 10th August: 11502

POS rankings: (note: this is a ranking of all books, in any format, and whether light novels or not - although note that manga are not included - that covers the top 500 but does not give sales figures)
000 means outside the top 500, XXX means not yet released
weeks commencing: 6/7 - 13/7 - 20/7 - 27/7 - 3/8 - 10/8 - 17/8 - 24/8 - 31/8 - 7/9

Sound! Euphonium & Umaru Season 2 when?
Didn't "Actually, I Am" come out recently? I'm sure it did yet, nothing on the chart..

Sound! Euphonium has just had an OVA announced

Actually I am came out on the 16th, according to Amazon.co.jp. So I guess that didn't do too well either.

I'm surprised BBB is still doing well, before the first volume was released everyone seemed to think it would tank in Japan. Apparently they don't go for that type of show, which is also the reason Rokka bombed if you believe the internet...

Part one of the Kaze release of Future Diary has been pushed back to November 16th due to 'Unforeseen Circumstances
Now, you'd think someone at a media company would have landed the "Release Dates" future diary and been able to see this coming.

It did, but didn't make the rankings. Chaos Dragon and Baby Steps season 2 also failed to rank. Full rankings will be out tomorrow.

Oh dear. I know it's a given for any season but seeing titles not rank always feels sad. I found Actually, I am to become more enjoyable as time went by, especially given there's actual Romantic development. Shame.

JoJo's is an interesting one. 2 or 3 of the earlier episodes have brief but clear blood sports that probably can't be allowed at a 12, but aren't really 15s.

Couple that with Dio's non-motive and I can see why the BBFC went 15, not sure what the gory images are though.

There are a couple that probably fall under that. The only one I can think of the top of my head is from Episode 1

Edit: Scanning through Episode 2 quickly, this could also be considered gory (I think anyway)

The BBFC is weird when it comes to gore. Both Another and Elfen Lied got away with a 15 despite having tons of gore while Monogatari received an 18 over some gory images.

It might be a tonal thing, or to do with expectations.

If you're watching Hannibal you expect graphic violence, if you're watching Doctor Who you don't. The BBFC will adjust for that, so theoretically Hannibal could get away with more at a 12 than Doctor Who

I always thought Monogatari got an 18 for it's combo of Sex/Nudity and Violence. Another and Elfen Lied have less Sex/Nudity than either of Neko Black, Neko White or Nise if memory serves me correctly. The BBFC it's ilk are always harsher on Sex than Violence.

Nekomonogatori is strong gory images, sex references. Nekomonogatori White is strong gory images.
