Up for Memories, it's a very Anime Limited title isn't it .... ;)
Sony hold/held the license for that in the UK. It's probably in the same predicament as the Cowboy Bebop movie.

Sony has these lot on DVD but not Blu-ray, I wonder if Andrew will be able to get the Blu-ray rights if possible:
- Cowboy Bebop: The Movie
- Memories
- Metropolis
- Steamboy
- Tokyo Godfathers

if a Blu-ray version of Cowboy Bebop: The Movie does get a UK release I just hope they don't use the materials from the America Blu-ray, as apparently that was terrible. I remember reading saying the picture quality was lower quality than that of the Japanese version (which I guess nowadays is to be expected) and that 2.0 audio was used despite a 5.1 audio track being available. I think it was also a bare-bones release as well.

Don't forget First Squad and Legend of the Millenium Dragon - but can't imagine anyone wants re-releases of those, ha...

Those already got Blu-ray releases though. Same goes for Paprika, Tekkonkinkreet, Final Fantasy AC & SW and Resident Evil Deg & Dam.

Giovanni's Island and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya have been submitted for the 87th Academy Awards' Best Animated Feature.

They will be up against major titles such as Big Hero 6, How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Lego Movie and Mr. Peabody & Sherman. There were 14 more but I think these ones are high candidates.

Wait Big Hero 6?, that's not even out yet and it's already being submitted?

It's available in the US quite recently, we don't get to see it until January which is annoying.

Don't think anime has much of a chance this year sadly - the Lego Movie is bound to get it.

That said, Kaguya might get the token Ghibli vote, or perhaps Giovanni's Island seeing how well it's been recieved.

Lets hope they watch them all this year ...

I do agree with Lutga, its more than likely going to Lego Movie.

The LEGO Movie is going to roll straight through that award, it has everything Frozen had last year: insane popularity, a song that drives people insane after hearing it for the millionth time, widespread release. The most I think we can hope for, is a nomination for The Tale of Princess Kaguya (due to it being a Ghibli feature). I've admittedly yet to see Giovanni's Island, but I can see the Academy over-looking it.

EDIT:
"Mai Mai Miracle" currently set for Q2 2015. Sub-only digital versions will hopefully me available next week.

Indeed, I wonder how Funimation is reacting to this.

----

In other news, A Certain Magical Index the Movie: Miracle of Endymion will be out from Funimation on January 15th as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, Amazon US pre-order reveals.

----

There's something I should probably point out sooner than later (since the news was quite recent). As you all know Sailor Moon is about to get released as a combo pack and standard DVD release from Viz Media over in North America [Region A/1 only based on specs]. The set was released early for Rightstuf buyers and there has been some mixed responses from quite literally everyone in terms of the video quality. The Blu-rays were obviously going to be an in-house upscale because there's no Blu-ray release/master in Japan, but the biggest problem that everyone has pointed out is the DVD quality - it's bad.

Here's a comparison, left picture is the German/Italian/Japanese DVD release and the right picture is from Viz Media:

The Viz DVDs on the other hand, on top of all the ghosting and noise reduction, have forgot to remove the black bars from their 16x9 master and added an anamorphic flag.

So instead of using 720x480 resolution like the previous DVDs, they instead only use 540x480. Anyone watching on an HDTV may not notice since the anamorphic flag will stretch the image to the proper proportions, but anyone using a CRT (and if they're only buying the DVD set, they may very well be), will have these black bars on the left and right of the image, and the anamorphic flag will introduce black bars top and bottom as well.

Another comparison on the DVD quality.

The authoring was handled by Subatomic Digital - the same group who handled Gargantia and Inuyasha (the one with the 'awful interlaced quality').

ANN will be hosting a podcast with the producer to address these issues next week:

Supposed to get Sailor Moon set in today or tomorrow. Arranging podcast next week with producer. Will solicit questions next week.

I told Viz that the questions from both me and the audience will largely be about video issues. They asked for links to the screenshots.

Fandom Post user Library-chan has a list of the specs used for the Blu-ray release.

Funimation's release of High School DxD New LE has sold out (honestly this was predictable) so get one while you can.

It's been much the same way for both the regular and Limited edition of the High School DxD New sets this past week. Don't worry, we ordered a lot and still have plenty in the warehouse, but our rep at Funi told me yesterday that they are now COMPLETELY SOLD OUT of the Limited Edition and will not be making any more, so whatever is left in our warehouse of those will be it. At the current run rate they won't last very long, so if you want one or would like to get a copy for that special Otaku in your life for Christmas, please get your order in as soon as possible.
