Maybe it's because the Japanese licensors don't like Region 2 NTSC discs in foreign territories? Do they still care about that?

Yet Funimation puts out a load of R2 NTSC Discs, Andrew said all of Anime Limited's DVD will be NTSC and even MVM put out some NTSC discs...

No way ................you remember death note ...Well ever fan knows death note it was ep 25 in the anime and the company told the author to carry on with the manga.....I think the series was supposed to end at 25-26 but they told him to carry on with it and it went to **** afterwards.....I'm not saying attack on titan will be **** like the last half of death note was but I'm saying that it'll probably be like one piece or naruto or bleach or case closed it'll probably go on for long time if it was great as every one says cause I'm sure there looking for something that's great like one piece and death note

SnK is Kodansha, not Shueisha.

I've never heard even rumours of any manga publishers other than Shueisha forcing a mangaka to continue with a series beyond its pre-planned conclusion.

It's a rumour I heard from someone I heard the company told the author of death note to carry on the series because of how popular it was

The manga came out
Then
The live movies came out
Then
The anime

It's probably a rumour but it's kinda believable in some ways

It seems daft. The people still buying DVD in Japan are relatively casual (or just buying for bonus items in some cases) compared to the BD market. They don't want to wait a year extra to import a dodgy UK edition DVD with most of the bonus content stripped out. Heck, they could import the foreign BD and a player instead and still be saving money.

Fear of reverse importing R2 DVDs hasn't been a relevant worry since the 90s. And even then most Japanese reverse import DVDs were R1, because people are apparently smarter than companies think ^_^;

(Besides, anyone in Japan can play a PAL R2 disc on a computer anyway, so it's even more stupid.)

R

I can only think of two explanations.

1) MangaUK reckon there's a sizeable percentage of their target audience who don't have the capability of playing NTSC DVDs yet. Therefore they release everything in PAL so that they don't shut them out. I reckon this is the most likely one.

2) They're still contractually forbidden from doing NTSC DVDs by Japan. Maybe they are indeed still fearful of reverse importation despite the likelihood being minimal and it going against all common sense. Who knows? It could even be something as silly as their legal teams using standard contracts from the 00s and they just haven't revised the particular clause prohibiting R2 NTSC DVDs for the modern era(hence the "roadblock" Jerome mentioned a while back). That last one is just wild and utterly unfounded speculation on my part I must stress :p

So basically

1) We (Manga) did bad research and somehow missed the memo about Digital TV which requires at least SCART if not buying a new TV outright which in turn should limit the number of incomparable TVs of which the Customer of Anime Niche that we love to exploit as a reason to not be arsed to do much of nothin' would probably be a downright minuscule if not non-resistant contingent.

2) We made up some crap to foist our stupidity on Japan with our on going narrative on how they're the bad-guy in absolutely every situation (as opposed to the 90% of the time they can be atributed to stupid crap). The existence of other companies NSTC disks (wasn't aware AL was using NSTC but that's cool to know) drowns this theory in the cleansing fire of logic. I can not for one second believe that Bandai Visual wouldn't have broken AL's legs about Bebop.

In lighter news the Sailor Moon 20th Aniversery Album (Minus the bonus track because Japan is Japan) is available to Download though Amazon and Itunes.

You're probably best getting it off Amazon for £8 over iTunes £10

Woah, big news. NISA are rereleasing Toradora on BD. With their first English dub for an anime!

Press release is here in PDF format.

It'll include the OVA as well. They're releasing their usual Premium edition with all the episodes and a hardback artbook for $129.99, or in two-part standard editions for $59.99 each.

Needless to say, I want this. Add in the usual retailer discounts and it's not too bad at all, comparable to the price of Funi's Psycho Pass release. The transfer is an upscale, but it looks decent from the screencaps at Fandom Post.

EDIT: Beaten like Spurs at the weekend. Wonder how it's going to compare to the NISA release? Good to see a swift announcement.

Death note, on the other hand, was published by Shueisha.
