The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Listening to the BBFC podcast now. It's 28 minutes long and anime isn't brought up until the 17:40 mark. The difficulties discussed involve the sudden curve-balls that get thrown in when you already have an impression of what the show is, like sudden boobie shots out of nowhere. They also discuss the different culture and how some things intended for adolescents will be not deemed appropriate for them here and do they make allowances for that understanding or not, especially with the amount of anime series' being set in middle and high schools. They did mention the cutting of of La Blue Girl Returns and yes, tentacle rape is brought up. In regards to violence, they mention Deadman Wonderland and the hyper realistic detail anime can bring compared to special effects in live-action.

Luckily, they did finish it by discussing with Spirited Away and the positives of that xD.

Before moving onto anime, they did however, discuss regulations for online material about 12 minutes in - which isn't a legal requirement, but companies like Netflix have been approaching the BBFC for ratings and such. I certainly hope that doesn't become a legal requirement because that would totally kill us in regards to simulcasts.

I do want to single out this quote from early on in the podcast though, when they were discussing a film:
"Although some of them were lesbian sex scenes, although as you know, we do not discriminate on orientation"
So why mention it?

To be fair, the focus on Blue is the Warmest Colour in the media has been all about the lesbian sex scene, I think David Cooke was just acknowledging and referencing that.

Still, his pointing it out really doesn't do that justice when they were focusing mainly on its actual artist merits.

Viz has finaly unloaded a whole lot of thier catalouge onto Kindle (and onto a service that doesn't have a client that's pure coded bulls't) with Volume ones starting at the brighter side of £5 (and older stuff, flame of recca, Mar, etc being closer to 4.15).

No Viz Kids stuff yet so Pokemon Adventures lovers will still have to devote a large part of thier bookselves to that one, sadly.

Latest News on Overseas stuff:
- Viz Media's release of Ranma 1/2 will include 4:3 ratio in 1080p taken from the Japanese masters. The first set will include the first 23 episodes in three discs. Includes Japanese with English subtitles, dubbed English audio track, and a secondary "signs and songs" subtitle track.
- Sentai's bilingual release of Maria Holic and the sub-only release of Casshan have been delayed to 4th March 2014.
- Walmart have done another Funimation leak with Attack on Titan's release date for 3rd June 2014.
- Discotek's release of Lupin III: Bye, Bye, Liberty Crisis arriving for 25th March 2014 with original Japanese audio track and English dub track.
- The second Heaven's Lost Property movie will be the final film in the anime series. Translated as Heaven's Lost Property Final: Eternal My Master, a trailer has been released.
- Translated version of the Sword Art Online: Extra Edition special is available.
- A second teaser has been posted for Bodacious Space Pirates: Abyss of Hyperspace movie.
- 1st teaser of Rurouni Kenshin live-action sequel unveiled.
- Footage of Patlabor: Next Generation live-action adaptation unveiled, these will be numerous episodes throughout 2014 and 2015.
- Battle Angel Alita: Last Order manga will end soon.

Soory but back to the psycho pass thing fopr a sec. Does AB mean the blu ray would work on a european ps3? I don't know what that means you see.... :D

Yes, AB means the release is region A (US) and B (Europe), although there has been at least three instances where Funi have messed this up though.
Hidan no Aria and Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero were meant to be AB but disc two of both sets were region A only, and the first BD collection of the Soul Eater was (and still is) region locked despite being advertised as AB.

So long as they don't screw this up then you should be able to play the Premium Edition Discs on a region B player.
I must admit, although it doesn't affect me at all, I like this recent trait of US distributors releasing BDs as AB. Sentai have been doing it for most of their new releases and Funi appears to be doing the same going into next year too. Even NISA released Daily Lives of High School Boys with no region locking what so ever.

Hehe Lack-Anim, I like it  I'm worried about Space Dandy next season though  I really should use the Christmas period to try and catch up on Valvrave, Kill la Kill and Samurai Flamenco. If only the Wii U had a Crunchyroll app...

Interesting to see Funimation return to offering more Premium Editions alongside their standard editions, seems like a very good move and they should do well for them.

To be fair - we received the video only on the day of supposed broadcast and the US were unable to create the subtitles until very late in the night (around 0300 GMT if curious) - which is why the delay.

We're as good as the licensor providing material and in Space Dandy's case I have a huge chunk of assets already for the first episode(s) so I'd not be too concerned folks :).

Best,

AP

I seem to remember reading that Kill La Kill was delayed everywhere - CR, Daisuke had it in a bunch of languages other than english - it wasn't just Wakanim which was affected.
Still, I find it funny that a certain sub group was still able to get it out quicker than the simulcast sites though.

If there's anyone else out there like me who missed that nice Kotobukiya Asuka 3.0 figure they had for sale when they opened their EU store, Amazon is selling it for £44.
Needless to say I bought it in a heartbeat.
