The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I've come across rumours of a new channel called East Asia TV that is supposedly launching in the UK in 2014. This channel would feature Japanese, Chinese and Korean content. Does anyone know if there is any truth in these rumours?

Interesting fact, I found this (I have filtered the titles that are relevant to us):

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
(updated September 25, 2013)
These animated movies are expected to qualify in the 2013 Academy Awards Best Animated Feature category:

A Letter to Momo (GKIDS) Fall 2013
The Wind Rises (Studio Ghibli/Touchstone Pictures) 11/8/13

BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM
(updated September 12, 2013)
These shorts are causing buzz on the festival circuit, either by being eagerly anticipated or winning awards. They are expected to qualify in the 2013 Academy Award category for Best Animated Short. The deadline for animated shorts to meet eligibility requirements in this category is September 30, 2013.

Even though we have access to Kill la Kill finally, I also found this:

Funimation have picked up the following for Simulcast:

Tokyo Ravens
Unbreakable Machine Doll

oh, and looks like this will be used for the english releases in terms of logo title for Attack on Titan:

Since when was Beez involved with that title? Last time I heard, Nichijou and Gosick were licensed by Bandai and then went into limbo as Bandai (as you say "went down the toilet").
Wasn't Beez just their European distribution company though? Though your right that I don't think they were ever hinted at having it for a Eu release
Beez was a sister company of Bandai US, both part of the Namco Bandai group. They didn't distribute for Bandai US; IIRC I've read somewhere that they had to license everything from Japan themselves.

@MVM_UK Hey, any chance of you guys bringing Haibane Renmei back to the UK ?

MVMEntertainment
It's something we'd like to get back. Watch this space.

Blu-ray please blu-ray please blu-ray please blu-ray please blu-ray please blu-ray please!

Since Funimation has Haibane Renmei and released it DVD only, I doubt a Blu-ray version will be released under MVM. On the positive side, a BD version does exist in Japan.

Bandai Visual announced on Tuesday that the late Satoshi Kon's 2001 film Millennium Actress is getting its first Blu-ray Disc release in Japan on February 21, 2014. The 6,090-yen (about US$61) release will be based off a telecine with a new print, HD mastering, and Panasonic's MGVC (Master Grade Video Coding).

The 87-minute film will have four minutes of bonus extras: teaser and full trailers (both off new prints) and television commercials. The Blu-ray will also have the audio commentaries by Kon, sound director Masafumi Mima, and Chiyoko Fujiwara's voice actresses Miyoko Shoji, Mami Koyama, and Fumiko Orikasa (from the limited first-edition DVD Collection Box). The sound will be in Dolby TrueHD (5.1 ch) and Linear PCM (Dolby Surround). The first copies of the release will bundle a four-fold liner note with text by critic Ryusuke Hikawa.

You know what to do Anime Limited, nuff said.

One Piece is finally getting the Blu-ray treatment in Japan, but so far only applying to the newer arcs.
While we’ve had another four hundred or so episodes from there, the majority of which have been released on home video in Japan, they’ve been only on DVD and primarily aimed at the rental market. That’s all starting to change now though as the upcoming volumes that cover the Punk Hazard Arc of the series, which began with episode 579, are getting Blu-ray single releases when they start landing on January 8th, 2014.

The first two volumes of the arc are coming out on the same day with four episodes on each set (579-582 and 583-586) where the Blu-ray releases will be priced at 5775yen each while the DVD releases are priced at 4725 yen each. No details on the specs for them, particularly in terms of audio, but the first press editions will contain some stickers while on disc extras will include undisclosed bonus video recordings.

I suppose 4 eps per blu ray is better than a normal series that tends to have 2 per blu ray but damn any one piece collector is going to end up with a lot of discs and boxes

& still no TWGOK ... >_<

Highschool DXD will please a certain someone I know.

Both Yen and Viz have access to Manga that have popular Anime out in the US yet have not licenced them :(
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Isn't TWGOK a title which can only be licensed by Viz(?) for reasons similar to why Index can only be licensed by Yen Press?
