The General Conversation Area

I went to university in Scotland and lived there from 18 years old to 25. I would have stayed, but I ended up getting a job offer back in England that I couldn't refuse.

The one thing I miss about Scotland is the lorne (square) sausage and macaroni pies, haha. But more seriously, it's a very beautiful country, especially up in the highlands. Definitely worth a visit for anyone.

Scotland is about as close to heaven on earth as it's possible to get imo!
I have been more times than I can remember and it feels like second home every time. I wish I could move there!
Your daughter did well with all those visits, if she goes again tell her to do some of the islands next, and the Cairngorms if she likes a bit of wilderness and wildlife spotting ❤

My daughter did tell us they were supposed to go to one of the Islands to tour another castle there, I forget which one she said. Unfortunately they drove two hours to get to the ferry to cross over, but were told the tour bus was too big to get on the ferry, even though the tour guide had contacted the ferry company twice ahead of time to make sure the bus could get on, and they told them both times it would be able to. Then another hour and a half drive back to get to their next touring site, so a total waste of half a day of their tour.

I think my bedroom TV is on the way out with dark marks showing at the bottom of the screen. Then again it is quite old and was only a cheapy one from Tesco.

Yeah, one of the lines of LEDs in your baclight has gone dead. It does kind of make it look like stage lighting in a theater now, so you can just pretend your watching a live theater production until you get a new TV... 😁
It can wait until more of the backlight dies, it's done well that Telly considering it was a Tesco Special probably 6/7+ years old if not older as I can't remember when I purchased it.

Unfortunately the backlight dying is really common for TVs. You can fix it usually as it is typically just strips of LEDs that can be replaced, but it is a real pain to access.

Ny last tv just went completely blank, you could still hear it but couldn't see anything. I was pretty sad as it was only 3 years old and when I was a kid in the dark ages we had the same tv from about 1976 to 2000 only finally giving in so we could get sky

Yeah, it wasn't unusual for TVs to last 20-30 years back long ago when they built things reliably, It doesn't seem like electronics last nearly as long as they used to now. Although, My first HD TV I bought back in 2007, a first generation 52" Sharp Aquos, is still going strong with a perfect picture in my living room after 17 years - one of the main reasons I haven't been able to upgrade to 4K in my house yet. I was a very early adopter of the HD format, upgrading everything in my home to HD in 2007, but I am so far behind in upgrading to 4K it is pitiful. I do have a 4K Oppo Blu-ray player, but no display or projector to show it on yet. I still try to buy what anime I can in 4K just for future use, whenever I finally do get a chance to upgrade.

Lol, RadFem - is it like some sort of divine challenge for you to be able to like someone's post within 10 seconds of them posting!? Did you even have time to read it first? I barely posted above and I look up and there's a Like showing in my notifications already! Well, thank you for your quick response! ;)😁

I'm just messing with you now, I'm not expecting Likes from you for everything, just teasing you some more about your Lightning-Strike Likes... I will cease and desist now. :)
