Indeed, however all the protection is with the buyer these days. It's very very easy to falsely claim you didn't receive something (yes even with recorded delivery "honest guv that's not my signature"), to claim something's broken, not as expected etc. which will result in eBay/PayPal issuing a refund and leaving the seller out of pocket. At which point your choice as a seller is pretty much shrug and give up or spend an inordinate amount of time battling a system rigged against you trying to get your money back.

How about if a signature isn't asked for? I have received parcels before which required a signature but which the postman didn't ask for. Does this mean the postman will then falsify my signature or use his own?

Also if the seller doesn't use ideal packaging then the goods will get damaged in transit. I have purchased dvds from amazon traders which came with artboxs (GITS SAC Ltd Editions/Megazone 23 Part 1). The traders sent them in amazon style packaging so they got squashed in the post damaging the artbox. In the case of the GITS SAC a replacement was sent out in similar packaging which also got squashed.

I once purchased Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise on dvd from an amazon trader. I received it but the disc was scratched meaning the last 30 minuted was unwatchable (it kept stopping/skipping for the last 30 minutes). I asked for a replacement which was said to have been sent out but which I never received. I tried claiming from amazon but it was passed the limit to claim so I ended up paying for a dvd I couldn't play.

I don't think anyone would dispute the fact that sellers can be at fault, but I would at least expect buyers to be required to present some proof to back up their claims before eBay simply steals money from the seller and gives it to the buyer.

This bloody world. Would be nice, wouldn't it, if the people in charge of it weren't ********s? If things like justice and equality really existed and the way to get ahead wasn't to screw everybody else over?

Yeah, what ayase said :). Also it sounds like you're talking about trading companies, not private individuals selling items which is a different kettle of fish.

I'm not saying eBay sellers are all faultless (some are quite the opposite) just that as someone who only occasionally sells items that are surplus to requirements, always sends recorded delivery, always packs very very well etc. I shouldn't have to worry that I may end up out of pocket due to folks scamming the system and through no fault of my own. Especially given that the amount of time and effort required to set the record straight is, imho, deliberately prohibitive.

Somebody chop my hands off! I need to stop spending money before the end of the month! Getting ready for Nov birthdays and X-mas is now a priority....
Or you can just hog-tie me to make sure I dont go off the deep end.

As for Ebay dealers, I've had no problems with them. However, I try to keep to "Star Recommendation" sellers if I have the choice. They're more of a trusted and decent seller, since they'd have decent custom and good reviews in general (which you should check out before purchase).
If they dont come recommended, I'd weigh out my options a little more sceptical. And also use a Credit Card, since any fraud will be dealt with by the bankers. (Obviously, that particular transaction you'd be having difficulties with, I'd suspect, but other "transactions" you didn't authorise would be sorted fairly.) It's generally how much you can trust the seller and how much the product really means to you to take a risk. It's not like a face-to-face trade where you can give a description to the police/company and it's about when and where and giving details. So Ebay/Paypal would be "sceptical" on that front too.

I'm not so comfortable with Ebay's system entirely. The whole sniping issue does get under my skin at times, but that's the dealings with the "time limit" style of bidding. I'd prefer to be present at an auction lot on a scheduled time and be able to up-my-bid in "real-time" assumptions. That way, a bid can be made and someone could make a bid within a 30sec/1min time frame from the last bid, and if they dont - congrats to the winning bidder.

Themz the breaks though - you can have a scheme that you have to be patient and tend to, even in the dying seconds of the auction, or one where you're in-it-to-win-it at that time.

Tell me about it Chaz... Spent far too much on my car this month despite the fact that I'm barely using it at the moment due to not having a job (and the *ahem* small matter of it being a 3 litre petrol engine and petrol costing about £12 a litre or something). Making it run as perfectly as possible seems to be my new mission in life. New K&N air filter, oil filter & oil, alternator belt, HT leads, sights set on a sports coil and electronic ignition... and adjustable shock absorbers... and possibly re-fitting sound proofing and carpets which the previous owner ripped out (although that will increase the weight - decisions, decisions). Shame the exterior is looking so tatty now, but a respray is really something I'm going to need an income to afford.

Seriously thats crazy Ayase,

I saw the Engine pic you uploaded to facebook the other day it looked like it was on its last legs lol.

Being a person that also has a car that seems to be in a state of forever repairing, i can see that the costs add up to massive sums but a 3litre engine?! my 1.3 costs me £40 to fill it, the point that a quarter of a tank lasts me 2 days is besides the point..... sometimes i hate the commute into work (2 junctions on the M1 then windy 60mph roads through the countryside to get to work)

My next job is to spray paint it, i've been putting it off for far too long now, one side of the car is roughly colour matched to the remainder, i should just spray it up now i have the exact colour, its just finding time and also finding clear skies!!!

Please dont tell me you bought a cone air filter?! They suck through more air than normal ones and so the engine runs quicker yeah but only because the petrol/air balance is off and so the car starts to use more petrol to compensate for this.

Its alot better on the engine to just have a car with vents in the hood, it keeps the engine cool but not at the extra expense of petrol. =]

How very dare you, that engine is a thing of beauty, Tach! On it's last legs indeed - you should hear it. And it's done less than 100k in 40 years (though certain parts do need a coat of Hammerite, I'll give you that).

As I've mentioned in my PM, the manual choke gives me a lot of control over the air/fuel mixture, so that's not so much of an issue. The hot air may be more of a problem, but the engine gets pretty good airflow. Frankly, anything had to be better than the old airbox which someone had sawn a hole in the front of...

I've got the money for a mustang, not the Shelby, but the new models, I just don't have a driver license :p
Or I could use the money to go and have dinner with Oshii....

The new ones huh? Yeah, they're okay I guess... But if you can't stretch to a Shelby then THIS is what you want.

Why people spend that kind of money on a brand new Ford Focus when they could have something like this is beyond me...

Thought I'd make a quick line saying that I've been sorting some things out on my computer for a format. Hence little comments I've been making lately. Then again I do seem to pop "off an on". should be back on the middle of next week or so.

Hey i'm considering getting a 2012 Ford Fiesta in a few months, only £600 deposit and £180 a month for 4 years (with a NHS discount to boot!)

I'd love a mustang, the true muscle cars - can't beat em.

If i could afford a car....meh i dunno what i'd be after. I don't mind at first too much so long as it gets me from A to B. When i can afford things, i'll decide then.

I'm trying to get a CV written up at the moment, and i haven't struggled this much in a while. Sure, people have given me ideas here and there on what to do and what not to do, but since i've never written one before, i have no idea as to the format. This is going to be a long day, i can see it now =/

I had to rewrite my CV for the first time in ages last week, I found these two web pages gave me a lot of help in getting it to look decent.

http://www.bradleycvs.co.uk/cvservice/e ... ple-cv.asp
http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/cv.htm

That said, it doesn't look like I've even got an interview for the job I applied for, so my advice might not be the best!

Being that i spent 4 years in a department that dealt with recruitement, training and staffing and have managerial contacts in most agencies (randstad, blue arrow, allied professionals to name a few) i'd be happy to help anyone with their CV's if they want.

Many thanks VoxPhantom, i'll give them a read over. I've got 5 jobs i'm applying too, so the sooner i get it written up, the better. Working in retail has never needed one, so there has been no real need to write one up, but now i'm stretching out to edinburgh, i really need to get it all sorted out now rather than later(now being that jobs are actually available).

I'll keep that in mind tach, since i'm probably going to need it read through at some point anyways. If i can get it down i'll see what i do from there, if i don't rip it up and throw it to shreds, hah.

HMV for some reason, derped up and my Madoka pre-order was rejected.

Considering how I already have all the American LEs, I just cancelled my order and haven't been motivated to re-order from elsewhere. I'll also be avoiding HMV like the plague from now on because of how they've treated my brother (he recently quit because of it).
