the tutor doesn't appear to know what he's meant to be teaching us and has the same mentality as my old course teacher "stick a book infront of them and they'll learn by themselves then i'll sit and drink coffee"
What? That's my favourite type of teacher! One of my maths teachers was like that in year 10 - I don't think me and my friend ever did a single hour of work between us that year. He would mark homework by simply reading out the answers and then we told him how many we got right... Of course, we just wrote down the questions in the previous lesson, then filled in the answers when he read them out (with a couple of choice mistakes thrown in).

I still got a B in GCSE Maths mind. :p

Seriously though, if I was choosing to do a course rather than being forced, I would carry on regardless of what the teaching was like. Either way seems to involve you teaching yourself, so you might as well stick with it.

Well, if it were me, I'd study on my own and would use the classes to ask questions.

You're studying networking, isn't it Tachi? Pay attention to protocols and stuff.

If you do that you are more likely to get a job in a cool place, such as an ISP or host service with high level netword architecture. If you don't, you might just end up clipping cables for the rest of your career :/

Nothing wrong with clipping network cables, mind. It's just that I think it's boring to work on actual installations of networks. Some people like it though.

At any rate, I'm not a particular fan of either as I became a programmer :p

To be honest home learning is a benefit to me...the only downflaw is i'll have to pay for the course.

The course i wanted to do (but the college isn't doing due to not enough people) is the CompTIA A+ technicians course.....i was told when i started the course for my second level technicians diploma that i should have shot up to the A+ to start with as the diploma level i already knew everything.

Instead i ended up with the Cisco networking pathway. with pretty pictures and speech bubbles that tell me just as much as the teacher....but come on its a joke...i can't get a job after doing this course....apparently its the "course that sets you up for the real course" where i'd get a certification in it that i'd need to update every 3 years....going through this rigmaraul every 3 years doesn't sound fun to me.....networking, although i do it for my friends and my own home is set up with the most simplistic setup possible (to save space and time) yet this....this is a joke.

I'm giving this a shot.... 5 weeks into it i get one quarter of the course exam slapped infront of me....so i'll be ******** bricks if i cant do it.

I wanted to go through the technician route....not networking techy route.

i need a rest and a pint. works finished me off today....no energy at all.

cya all

the renewing thing is sort of a joke Tachi. I've got a few certifications myself and once I started working, no one ever asked me for then again. I reckon they are great for those starting a career, but after a while you notice they are not exactly relevant, as they are very broad in scope.

I work with 10 / 20% of the certification scope at most on a regular basis. Anything else you need, you can google.

BTW - which Cisco certification are you training for?
