Oh I dreaded it to come, but there it is: German Post just introduced a 6€ service fee on all customs packages that are handled directly through the post, similarly to your 8GBP fee. Best thing ever: They made the press release THE SAME DAY THE FEE STARTS TO APPLY.
No advance notice whatsoever. I just accidentially stumbled over it while researching something else. That's great information politics to be sure...
Apparently though, packages with no declaration, suspected of being wrongly declared or simply having no invoice to back up the declaration etc. which thus go directly to the customs office don't have that fee (yet?).
Guess any relayed packages will the spared from the fee for the time being.
 
Hey @Captaaainuniverse I hope you manage to get to and from work okay. Likewise to @HWR ; I hope your day wasn't hindered too much...

It's been on and off up here, but pretty light; it's actually been pretty windy though, so the snow has been blown around like a blizzard!

Also, earlier on, I had a treat in my garden - 3 fieldfares! I couldn't believe it, it's the first time I've seen any in our garden. Usually they stay in conealed areas during the breeding season, but they may visit gardens during the winter months in search of food. It was a really lovely sight! It's always pleasant when you see something out of the ordinary. I even saw two goldcrests a few weeks ago, and usually they like to flit around pine trees...

I may end up going awol in a bit; pretty sure the electricity is going to go out. So, if I don't respond for a bit, that'll be why!

Well, I'm still here. It must have been a warning beep; it'll probably go out in the morning. We've got PAYG with electricity (those key fob things)...

Now I need to see Chobits to get the reference XD

They get on my darn nerves, but, it's what my folks are happy with, so...

It's more the fact that since there's not enough money in the house, we can only afford to put £10 on there. Well, £5 of that is swallowed as emergency credit, so, it's ****. When I had a job, I could usually add my share to it as well, so it would carry for a bit longer...
