This is why I hate gameplay trailers when a game is years away. More a glimpse of how they hope the game will look than an actual representation of what you'll be buying.I guess that 'gameplay reveal' trailer from last year wasn't genuine at all then. Likely just a tiny vertical slice of scripted elements rather than actual gameplay. They wouldn't have cancelled an actual game that was that far along in development.
[I'm] not necessarily going to be on Final Fantasy 17, so we also don't want to obstruct or limit our future director or whomever will be producing the games like 17 or even 18.
It's been two years since FFXVI. In the 90s, we would have been months away from the release of the next game by this point. Granted, we did get FFVII Rebirth last year, but the franchise has been in a weird place for decades, drip-feeding mainline entries at a rate of barely one per decade while pumping out all manner of spin-offs.
