The Gaming News Thread (for news that doesn't need a thread)

It's all tease no reveal, but does at least seem to confirm that Ace Combat 8 is still in development. Considering how many projects game publishers have been cancelling in recent years, that wasn't a given.

I guess that 'gameplay reveal' trailer from last year wasn't genuine at all then. Likely just a tiny vertical slice of scripted elements rather than actual gameplay. They wouldn't have cancelled an actual game that was that far along in development.

This is why I hate gameplay trailers when a game is years away. More a glimpse of how they hope the game will look than an actual representation of what you'll be buying.

If June was game announcement season, July is turning into blue balls season.

Then there's the Ace Combat 30th anniversary campaign, when Ace Combat 8 hasn't even been officially revealed yet, almost the entire series is unavailable on modern consoles, and you can't even buy the likes of Assault Horizon digitally on PS3/X360/Steam anymore. Weirdly, the early-90s arcade game that preceded the series, Air Combat 22, has just been released as part of the Arcade Archives series, but hasn't been mentioned in the anniversary marketing.

These feel like situations where the publishers have screwed up their 🤢cross-media synergy🤢 by delaying or cancelling the core product these tie-ins were originally meant to promote. Who knows, maybe one or more of these is building towards an exciting reveal sooner rather than later, but it reminds me of that time we randomly got the game Tron Run/r a decade ago, which was probably meant to coincide with the cancelled sequel to Tron Legacy.

[I'm] not necessarily going to be on Final Fantasy 17, so we also don't want to obstruct or limit our future director or whomever will be producing the games like 17 or even 18.

Based on that comment from Naoki Yoshida, it seems that Final Fantasy XVII hasn't started production or even had a team assigned to it yet. I wouldn't be too surprised if it never happens.

It's been two years since FFXVI. In the 90s, we would have been months away from the release of the next game by this point. Granted, we did get FFVII Rebirth last year, but the franchise has been in a weird place for decades, drip-feeding mainline entries at a rate of barely one per decade while pumping out all manner of spin-offs.

That's no doubt one of the reasons the series keeps declining in popularity. Aside from the radical shifts in style, tone, and gameplay from entry to entry, they're spaced so far apart that a significant portion of the potential customer base has no history with the series, and may never play more than a single entry since not everyone is like us weirdos here ;) that continue to play games well into adulthood.

Website: Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack

While it's digital only for the UK, Europe, and US, in Japan there will be physical versions for PS5 and PS4, with English language support. according to the Japanese version of the website. It also states there will be an announcement on 4 August with a release date. The other DX games have been ¥5850 compared to ¥8580 for new games so I would also expect these to have a budget price if not necessarily exactly that same number.

Though I already have all three, I will probably still buy them again for PS4 because I love Atelier and there will be extra content, and while not yet stated, will likely include all the previous DLC as has been the normal thing for the Atelier DX versions.

Ah religious groups hiding behind feminism to get games they didn't like removed and there are no visual novels with child abuse on steam.oh and these groups are pro-life and anti lgbtqia+.

Mods Remove the post if inappropriate.

Wow vice has had that article removed.

Payment processors should not have this much power.

Website is updated: Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack

I will reiterate from before: This only exists physically in Japan, but the Japanese PS5 and PS4 versions do contain English language support. The Japanese Nintendo Switch version does not contain English.

Individually, the Japanese versions are ¥6380 each, or you can buy a Premium Box with all three plus a poster, CD, and book for ¥18200. They are already up for preorder at CDJapan and probably elsewhere.
