The Gaming News Thread (for news that doesn't need a thread)

Pretty conflicted by the news of Monster Hunter XX. Before I played World I would be so damn excited, but man going back to old style MH is gonna be rough for me. I will almost certainly pick it up though, the sheer amount of monsters in XX will hopefully be enough to win me over (I think XX has like 90 odd to Worlds 32ish).

The side-story mini-game to the Kickstarter Project Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, which is a game being made by Koji Igarashi whos known for the Iga-vania style of Castlevania games will be released 24th May on practically everything ( Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Steam ), and will be sold at a price of $9.99

The trailer for the game starts at around 1:28 since before that Iga explains what the game is.

Guess my tweet to AUKN was ignored, so I'll post Rice Digital's article :)

Steam seems to be putting pressure onto Visual Novel developers to censor titles (even though they are already All Ages) otherwise their games will be removed from steam. While Steam does have a no adult content policy, developers have been working closely with valve to ensure their games meet guidelines

Since when? How do they explain all the 18 rated games they sell that aren’t VNs like say, Grand Theft Auto and Fallout 4?

Without any explanation from Valve people can only speculate, and any speculation I can come up with doesn’t seem remotely fair or reasonable. Steam’s not the only digital distribution platform of course, so it’s not like people have no choice but to use them, but they do need to be consistent in their policies.

I’m just seriously hoping this is not going to end with the policy being “Steam allows adult games unless they fall foul of what we arbitrarily find objectionable according to our U.S. centric morality”. But even if it does, someone else stands to profit.

I was talking about games that would get a 18 or AO rating rather than M (iirc this is 17+) rating. These are equivalent to the BBFC 18 rating and R18 rating. I don't think we even have a AO game rating in the UK, PEGI seems to go up to 18 unless I'm mistaken

Example would be Nekopara that the ver. on steam would likely be M where as Fakku or Denpasoft would be AO or 18 rated.

What I was trying to say is publishers/developers have been working with steam to make sure their games would meet steam guidelines and not too much AO content

As far as I'm aware though, any 18 year old can buy an 18 or an R18 - The R18 is just to make sure people know that they're buying porn. How do other countries even work out what's appropriate for an 18 year old to see but not a 17 year old? I'm guessing AO really is just the "stuff consenting adults are allowed to see, but the powers that be find distasteful" category.

I'd question not only what such "guidlines" actually entail but why they're even there in the first place - If they're happy to sell games for an adult only audience, then why are they not happy to sell some games for an adult only audience? You're either family friendly and won't stock adult content or you will, and if you're happy to sell GTA and Postal but drawn pixel titties have you reaching for the censor stamp something has gone horribly wrong.

Bayonetta has a character that pretty much uses her sexuality to fight, where did the pc reboot first appear? Steam! It's a bit late in my shift so I can't really think of any others atm but there are plenty more that are mature titles, quite a few that make sexuality almost a core mechanic and have a tonne of stuff people usually associate with VNs, yet it's only small indie published VNs that seem to be suffering, steam is a good marketplace for them and it's a bit unfair to take them off the most popular platform on pc.
Why you no like my waifu sim, gaben?

And it appears that whom that should be blamed for this action is the centre for sexual exploitation who are a bunch of brain dead retards who have gone after anime related games exclusively and avoided other games that have sexual content like the witcher 3

I'll also leave the video from whom found all this out, but be warned he does drop the F bomb a few times during the video.

centre for sexual exploitation
Of fictional characters.

And a company with as much wealth and power as Valve actually listened to these people instead of loudly laughing them out of the room and off the internet? They put the opinions of a few morally outraged types above their own ability to profit?

I despair for the state of the western world. Who cares about actual victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking? - We've got to stop these evil cartoons, comics and video games! Which co-incidentally, are the domain of already marginalised geeks and nerds who are an easy target to turn the rest of society on in much the way say, school bullies operate.

Utterly sick of this. How hard is it to just ignore these people? Or how hard is it to tell them, preferably in these exact terms, to f*** off? "Dear offended of Twitter, f*** off, signed Valve" - That's what's needed here.

I don't quite think it's a simple as listening to these types first hand, or having them in the company, yes, it's suspicious that valve is not telling anyone why they are being even more heavily censored or removed but if they were to reveal that it's the morally outraged paper skin crowd there would be a relentless lashback at those people, I think it's valve watching trends and falling on the sword preemptively before getting such complaints, it looks better than giving in and since no one has complained no one is targeted out for abuse.

as for why anyone is pandering to the phantom audience these days, I simply do not now, perhaps the people who create the things we indulge in want those things destroyed

Edit:disregard like, half of that, just seen the video. it appears it looks like fighting over a complaint over 2 years, by moral arbiters that promote their whining on their own website, I'm not at liberty to say who, because it's something nintendo doesn't like, but someone on a forum wanted a sort of jailbreak to the switch to run homebrew, I know someone who gave them a very important part of that process, but according to the person I know the person they helped brags a lot and may risk drawing attention to the scene, they'll probably take full credit for the part they didn't do too. these moral arbiters look just as dumb as that person drawing attention to the homebrew scene, it's like they want the wave of trolls.
I still stand by my statement that they just may be a phantom audience out of touch with people who actually enjoy the thing they are interfering with. steam would have never seen sales from these people, and risk not seeing sales by no longer pandering to a niche gap in the market

Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 are getting PS4 remasters in Japan.

New mini-update to this - each game will feature 1080p and 60fps. The content will match the original releases.

New Marvelous x XSEED announcements:
  • Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient [PC]
  • Gal Metal [Nintendo Switch]
  • Gungrave VR [PlayStation 4 via VR]
  • Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity [PC]

Wish they would announce Trails of Cold Steel 3.
I kinda want them to announce the remasters for Cold Steel 1 & 2 first just to ensure that they basically have the rest of the PS4 instalments intact (since you know NIS America might want to grab more Falcom stuff because they themselves have lost a lot of their big titles (Danganronpa, Neptunia for instance) for other publishers).

There's a rumour that they won't let anyone license Cold Steel 3 until Cold Steel 4 is released on 27th September.
