The football thread!

True but the thing is; if City continue winning, we won't win. I'm hoping that they lose their next game and we can then go from 2nd to 1st with a smile.

Sad truth of the matter is that City are playing really well this season and i don't think they will slip up this late in the game.

You don't think so? I like watching liverpool play for the most part - though if you brought Bellamy to the game earlier than the 60th minute and when you do push up, don't bet everything on suarez (mental image of when he had a shot rebound off a defender and rather than pass to another player he went for another shot but skied it) its those chances that really make or break a game and i do like watching liverpool when they gel together.... just doesn't work as well as it should.

Btw i rename some of your most important players, try and guess them:

Horseteeth
Chimp
Squirtle
Kite

Tbh i hope Jose goes back to Chelsea, its been a fair few years since he left and hopefully the owner will back off and let him choose how to play the team for himself.

I think both Manchester sides could easily win the remaining games in which case the local derby match will be key in deciding where the title goes.

I think part of the problem is that Liverpool's best team does not include Andy Carroll (as shown on Saturday we can play teams off the park when he doesn't play). The question then is do we sell him for a loss or buy more wingers who can cross a ball?

Horseteeth - Luis Suárez
Chimp - Craig Bellamy
Squirtle - Martin Škrtel (our play of the season?)
kite - Dirk Kuyt

Don't you mean you hope Jose goes back to Chelsea?

Hmm, Its a catch 22. If you sell him for a loss and then (as sods law comes into play) you'll most probably see him play really well for another team and if you end up buying another player who can cross.... well then its a waste of money, though based on what i've seen with the missus... you'd do better to get rid. Newer blood is usually good for a team (look at arsenal's youngest 2, theo and the other guy who's name i can't remember)

And yeah lol i noticed the typo, its was you saying he should go to spurs that had me mixed up haha.

Nailed the guessing game, i've wondered for a while.... if you were earning as much as Suarez.... why the hell would hou had your teeth sorted by now.

Is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the Arsenal player you were thinking of? From what I have seen he looks better than Theo Walcott - he seems to have gone backwards this season bar the odd game like against Spurs recently (played us twice and done nothing of note in either game).

Indeed he is, from what i've seen he's a quality little player with great potential. Yeah Walcott may just be having a bad season this year - just cast your mind back to rooney at the world cup, the season prior he was outstanding.... world cup he was so-so at best.

When you're paid thousands a week i'd expect them to play like it was their last game, sadly rooney bent Man Utd over and literally raped the hell out of em when he was thinking of leaving - he just wanted more money to play the same :/

Good to see he gave us the early lead at the weekend but i'd expect abit more from him.

Thats player power for you - Terry did the same thing when his last contract was running down as Chelsea. Expect similar this summer with R.V. Persie (sounds like Arsenal might finally break their wage structure - problem with this is other players at the club will probably want pay rises).

Well when footballers are paid in 1 week as much as a normal person's wage over 8 years to kick a ball around a pitch for 90 mins minimum you know somethings wrong when they play stunts like that.

I think they should bring it back down to earth and tell them that they are earning a regular wage (£25k - £35k annual). Especially when you take into account Andy gray was paid over 3mil a year to just talk about football pre game and half time and a tiny bit at FT and the tit screwed it up with a sexist comment and ended up losing his job - racial accusations between players happen and they still keep their million pound jobs at clubs ¬_____¬

Probably never happen but David Moyes has suggested a 20% pay cut for everyone in the Premier League to help fans (or it could be because Everton have falling attendances and can't afford any new players  ),

Everton boss David Moyes has said that everyone in the Premier League should take a 20% pay cut to make football more affordable for supporters and to balance the game's finances.

Moyes, who celebrates 10 years in charge at Goodison Park on March 15, has had little cash to spend in his time at the club and has found success on a threadbare budget. And the Scot has his own ideas on how to help the situation.

"Perhaps the suggestion would cause some mayhem," he told the Sunday Express. "People might say it'd be harder to attract players but we have to take responsibility for the long-term health of football."

The 48-year-old added: "Everyone in the Premier League [should] take a 20% pay cut to put football finances back on an even keel, and allow a significant reduction in ticket prices to make football more affordable for the ordinary fan.

"We should be filling all the grounds all the time. Clubs have to control their money properly and only pay what they can actually afford. People have to be held responsible when things go wrong.

"Every family in the country at the moment has to finance correctly. They can't overspend. Why is football different?

"Football's been around for 150 years and it has come a long way, but we have to make sure we don't take it away from its roots. We must not get too far away from people."

It was a very good interview Moyes gave, a lot of good ideas for football. Apart from his suggestion about splitting the Premier League into two and bringing in SPL clubs.

I agree with him to an extent; i don't want to pay £50 for a ticket to see Man Utd play, add travel costs and possibly hotel prices too... it'd be nice to see things channge for the more affordable.

I wouldn't mind seeing lower ticket prices as well. AS for the SPL teams joining - I say fine but they have to start at the same level as AFC Wimbledon had to (sub conference level). Bet they wouldn't be as eager to join then.

Got to feel for Arsenal there. Nice try.

But maybe not since my boss had a bet on them to score 4

Also the top of the Championship table is looking mighty fine. Reading win their seventh game in a row, and with a game in hand over The Saints.

FIFTY BLOODY QUID? What the hell are they playing at? It didn't even cost that much to see Rammstein live.

That's about how much it cost for me to get a season ticket for Barnet FC (BeeArmy!!) when I was about 13, maybe even less than that, in fact. Yes, that's right you read correct, I had a season ticket for Barnet FC (BeeArmy!!) and yes I am suitably ashamed. I used to watch them play all the time, until I got into a fight with one racist kid who used to always go, and then I realized just what a miserable waste of time it was (sorry Barnet FC).

I was in the pub lastnight watching the Chelsea game and on another screen the Arsenal match was on. It was alittle bit hard to keep track of both games and try and cheer a mate who's split up with his gf of 2 years (but got a house, cars, the lot together) So in the end we left before the end of the second half.

What were the scores?

Yeah i saw Pendulum (and supporting act Sub Focus) just a week or two before immersion came out 2 years ago, that was £25 a ticket and to see Russel Howard (with 4 other comedians warming up first) the next weekend was only £15. Both nights together and still have enough money to go to pizza hut compared to 1 football match ticket.

The prices just don't add up really, Some may argue that you get better value for money watching football for one evening and being part of the crowd and getting that buzz, but if i can get that same buzz at a gig AND the comedy show then IMO the gigs are alot more value for my cash.

Really? It costs roughly £15 to watch Luton play 1 game, i've seen em play a few times but never really fancied sitting in the stands freezing my balls off when i could be at home and get the same coverage over the game via people on facebook so thats why i don't tend to go much these days lol.

Arsenal won 3-0, but lost 4-3 on aggregate (Arsenal were 3-0 by half time - must have run out or steam or else it wasn't a great team talk by Wenger). So close yet so far - typical Arsenal

Chelsea won 2-0 - Birmingham had their chance in the orginal match (they were winning 1-0 at one stage). It's not often lower league teams win when it goes to a replay.

Well it was quite a few years ago and Barnet where conference or whatever, and I also got concessions. But yeah, I never found it to be an uplifting experience to be honest (BeeArmy!!).

Middlesbrough are on BBC this afternoon against Leeds. Arguably a somewhat critical game for us to win in terms of Play-Off places.
