Overseas The Discotek Media Thread (plus AnimEigo)

I'm still yet to experience disc rot myself (touch wood) - the only time I've seen it was on a disc I purchased from CEX, which of course was second hand and may have been poorly stored.

Outside of known manufacturing issues from particular companies and specific batches, I don't think it's something to worry about.

There was some North American plant that made many Warner Bros DVDs that were notorious for rotting, and I unfortunately have had quite a few of them. Worst thing was in my case a lot of them were discs in TV series sets, so most of the discs might be fine but a couple would fail making the set incomplete. This was some time ago though, and I guess the problem was solved, or it's just one of the manufacturing plants that no longer exists.

I don't know what manufacturing facility(ies) Discotek used for DVDs but hopefully it was somewhere else.

Blu-rays could have the same issue but it seemed rarer. There were certain early Criterions that tended to rot, and it's an issue for some Icon UK blu-rays. I think there was another UK label that had problems too but I can't remember who it was. Criterion at least will still replace those discs, as long as it's something still in print so that they have copies to replace.

I've only ever had 2 discs rot. Lethal Weapon on dvd from the aforementioned awful Warner discs, the other was disc 3 of the original Bandai Zeta Gundam CE set.

Has anyone had any luck getting through to MediaOCD's customer service previously? I tried emailing them via their web form last week because I can't get into my account and the password reset emails aren't coming through, but I haven't heard back from them.

Didn't they rebuild their site? I think you have to register again and create a new account

I think you can track existing orders on this page...

They also have this on the main page

To check orders placed before 5/1/2026 (noon PDT), please visit our old site at www.wholegrainpictures.com.

The weird thing is I don't remember ever having an account with them. I started off by trying to create an account last week, but got an error saying my email was already registered. That prompted me to try the password reset.

It is possible that something was broken somewhere as the lost password emails are now working for me at last. Have you tried emailing help@mediaocd.com directly?
Ah, I'll try the reset again in case it just wasn't working at all last week. Failing that I'll try emailing directly if they don't reply this week.

Thanks both for the suggestions.

Round 6 of Discotek's latest Deep Dive additions are now available for arrival in mid-July.

As a reminder, the titles are in SRP but in return you do get points on the MediaOCD Store ($1 for every 10 points). The previous batch are all still available but I recommend ordering some sooner than later if you're desperate. UK shipping supports pre-paid VAT but there's always Stackry as an option if you plan to consolidate packages from Crunchyroll Store and Sentai Store together with MediaOCD's.

The titles included in Batch 6 are as follows:

But the one series I want to point out right away is Dancouga, which is a series some of you may recall was out of print a few years back alongside GoShogun and Space Warrior Baldios. It's available for $20 above SRP but is a good chance to get your hands on this release.

Some nice looking additions there. I swear importing this stuff is going to kill me - just placed my order for Rainbow, Shaman King and Devilman TV and then Patlabor TV and Kamen Rider Stronger at the end of the month.

Yes, very surprising to see Dancouga available again. God bless.

I wonder if there's any hope of a few copies of the Goshogun TV series falling out from between the sofa cushions.
