Overseas The Discotek Media Thread (plus AnimEigo)

I am shocked that they were able to clear the music rights with Yello for Space Adventure Cobra, I assumed that it would never be licensed because of the music rights so hearing they got it is the best thing about these announcements for me. I would seriously like to know what strings they pulled but likely never will.

The Yello version of Cobra is a definite buy for me. I have it on an ancient French DVD, but that's also the worst quality DVD I've ever owned.

Anyone else following this stream consider it a massive disappointment? It's almost over, and most of the announcements are western cartoons or live action stuff. And of the few things they have announced (7 anime titles out of 22 announcements), almost half are previously released titles; Higurashi has been readily available on BD for years! Probably the worst Discotek panel I've seen in years. Even if they announce a couple of big titles at the end, I'll be buying virtually nothing from Discotek for a long time, if this is their release slate.
Sort of. I don't follow the streams but check after it's over, because 90%+ of what Discotek releases I have no interest in. So it's hard to say it's a disappointment when I don't really expect anything. From this slate, I'll get Angel Heart, which I know nothing about but it being related to City Hunter is enough to make me interested. Maybe Flame of Recca but I'll have to look into that as I don't know much about it.

I've bought the majority of their Lupin stuff, City Hunter, Kimagure Orange Road, Project Ako, Gunbuster (though the AL version) and a fair amount of the stuff they sublicensed from Crunchyroll. Their usual giant robot stuff, toku, live action, and the rest of what they primarily focus on I'm not interested in so I know not to expect too much from them, but it seems like they're moving away from the subset of their output I did like.

I mean there's a doco included with it that go's over how the Dubai was made... And they said yello were pretty chill
...

I was really disappointed in Discoteks announcements this time around. I'm an anime-only fan, so I have zero interest in any of their Toku, live action, and Western cartoon announcements. Of what little they announced anime-wise, it's all rather unexciting to me, but I'll double-dip on Higurashi just for the improved subtitles, and get Angel Heart since it is a sequel to City Hunter and I've collected all of that series. I'll most likely get Urotsukidoji just for all the work they put into it, and because it's such a high-profile title in the hentai community, even though it's definitely not the type of hentai I care for at all. I may also get DearS - I watched the first episode on Crunchyroll and it seems ok for an older ecchi harem - plus, it's a title from the 2000's decade, which is my most favorite era of anime in general.
