Haha, once you're hooked, you can't look back, JP releases are just too much better than US/UK.

I'm not going to disagree with that at all, and I only own 3 Japanese imports so far (Garden of Words, Time of Eve and TWO copies of Code Geass: Akito the Exiled). This month alone I'll be buying the Madoka Movies, GiTS Arise, Haruhi, Kara no Kyoukai and 5cm.
I still want to get the Accel World LE volumes too ;_;
I would say TTGL too but £400+ in one go is really pushing it.

The Japanese seem to get everything near enough perfect, even down to subtitle font/style/colour.

It will usually say just like a non-Japanese disc, but only in Japanese text. I suggest you memorise (or write down) the words for English (英語) and subtitles (字幕). Beware discs with one of those words and not the other
