So Monster Hunter Tri comes out tomorrow...

Give me a shout when you want to play a game, I really can't decide on a weapon set, Sword and Shield feel far too weak but I find pretty much all of the others too clumsy and cumbersome.

I'm online tonight, 5.30 till 8 then 9 till late.

Anyone know how you add friends on the Wii?

I'm currently sporting a SnS, i've got to do the level 4 village quests to unlock a LS... for the time being i'll be just ranking up my HR.

i presume i can make a city in the recuiting part called AUKN. should be able to search for it. if not then i'd say either talk on here or somehow add each other as friends (friend codes??)

When i was playing online on brawl it said my friend code was:
0948-1269-6726

On MH my Character and my profile names are both Tachi.

It's different with Monster Hunter, you should have a code under your characters name, you input that on the search function once you're online and I think if the other person is online you can swap cards or some such.

i'll look into it tonight, i know you can search peoples names (above their heads or from the chatbox) in your menu and send them a PM, there's a option to send friend requests.

but im not sure if thats a friend request for that city or as a whole.

If it IS a case of searching a name then sending a pm to add as a friend request then maybe people could post their characters names here.

So would you say the Lagiacrus is easier than the Rathalos?

IIRC the older Monster Hunter games had Rathian as the stronger monster out of her and Rathalos, right? In Tri Rathalos is higher up and he's not really hard but that random stun animation when it takes flight and the fire ball attack is REALLY a piss take. Also I might be down for some games later.

I Guess the only differences between them in previous games where:

Rathalos charged everything in sight, usually he's throw the "fake charge" in to catch you out (fake charge is where he runs ar you, stops before he tramples you and bites instead)

rathian fires 3 fireballs to los's 1.

Low level los had less health than its counterpart.

I don't know if the high level gold and silver los/ians are in this one, but if they are its health is roughly double that of its azure/pink versions and they tend to use the fly/sweeping in movement and *hovers..... fireball trio* alot.

i'd love to see the full list of monsters all in 1 game. (there's a crystal scorpion in frontier that i want to fight so badly... but not into pc gaming)

I'm online now Tachi, where you at bro? Searching your name but nothing has come up, I'm assuming you're doing village quests? Also my ID is: WYX28F hit me up.

i'll be literally 5mins
just killing kelbi.

Done, right coming online now. (18:41)

sent you a message, i can't warp into your group because you've got the HR set to high lol.

Hi Lupus,

I saw you where on there, and that your HR40. so i tried to join you, you went offline.... didn't see that you where back as i ended up being disconnected mid quest ¬___¬ carried on with village guild quests and built up my armour and weapons. steaming through them atm. should be fighting the urgent quest both online and offline tonight.

Riva: the servers down from 7am till 11am* (correction on what i said yesterday)

If anyones free to team up tonight, i'll be trying to fight the fishermans tale quest (Royal Ludrow? lizard/lion)

Built up a decent foundation armour set.
Jaggi Helm
Jaggi Chest
Jaggi Vambraces
Piscine Waist
Piscine Trousers

Skills:
Attack up S
Olympic Swimmer
Current Res Low
Auto Guard.

51 def.

Is it easier to get items to create weapons and armour whilst online? It's my set up thats letting me down against that damned Qurupeco (the crested bird that can mimick other creatures)...

Oh and my character details

Yukari - CAYBBF (currently HR2)

Yes, as your not playing 1v1 with the monster,
there can be 4 hunters to 1 monster, so if your playing with people who are vets to the series they will have already steamed through HR's, they can help you out with monsters as they tend to have more advanced armour and weapons.

beware of the HR cap though, for instance.... you and i are currently HR 2, we can't play in quests that are above 1 star. defeating a royal ludroth or the bugle bird isn't easy alone.

What armour and skills do you have? don't forget the basics, if your using the sword and shield or the lance, auto guard charm will be a great help. Farm the Great Jaggi capture quest (village) for materials to make the commanders sword and shield. and the head/chest and arm armour. (maybe the full armour set + attack decorations for Attack up medium would benefit you most)

I'd say if you want a set that will give you defence, attack and speed under water. go for the same set that i have and upgrade it as much as you can, what weapons do you use?

I'll be online again tonight, (will add my details when i'm home)

As for prep work, here's a few combinations you'll need to have for quests you're having trouble with:

herb + blue mushroom= potion
potion + honey = mega potion
spiderweb + ivy = net
Net + trap tool = pitfall trap
bomb casing (given from farm elder) + exciteshroom = farcaster.
take all the paintballs you get in any missions you've done, they aren't account items so they won't be taken off you once the mission is completed.

Been so long since I've played this if I'm being honest, may have to do the earkuer single player quests to remind myself how to do stuff.

I'm currently running around with

Ludroths Nail (with no skill points or slots, active skill of halve stun)
no helmet
Jaggi Mail (skill points@ Stun +1m attack +3m gluttony +1 cold res -3, and a decoration which provides attack +1)
Jaggi Vembraces (skill points: stun +3, gluttony +1, cold res -1, health +2, attack +2, gathering +2, decor: gathering +2, health +2)
Jaggi Faulds (paralysis -1, gluttony +4, cold res -1, stun +4, attack +1, deco: stun +1 paralysis -1)
Jaggi Greaves (stun +2, attack +3, gluttony+2, cold res -2)

and the Pawn Talisman charm (provides combo +5)

8 attack – 2 more attack decorations will give you the attack S (a small increase in attack)
10 gluttony – so you’ll have a skill in that. Maybe fast eating.
9 for stun, one more dec for stun and you’ll have the stun reduction skill point. Should halve the time your stunned.

I’m not sure if you know or not, but skills only become active when you get skill points upto atleast 10.

I’ve attached a picture of what my armour skill list looks like.
on the left is the skills they've activated.

As I said, I'm relearning the game, I put 25 hours into the single player at launch but haven't played it properly since then so have forgotten pretty much everything, is there a way to give equipment slots to be able to add decorations?

Sorry, looked at it wrong... have a true break down for you now.
and the only way to add slots to your weapon is to upgrade it until a slot is added by the crafter.

Right… so re looking at this, you’ve got this so far:
Stun = 11 points. Should have stun halved or something like that.
Attack = 10 – attack up small.
Gluttony = 8.
Pawn talisman 10? = combo +5
Health = 4
Gathering 4
Para = -2

First off, get a helmet. Hunters helm will probs be best.
Take off the health and gathering decs for the vambraces. You can afford to take off the stun from the waist too.
Now you can use these 3 places (possibly 4 if the hunter helm gives you a slot) to either add to the gluttony, or the attack

The only one that will benefit straight away would be gluttony.

If your building for the future, fill them with attack decs, build up your sword till you can add a slot to it, add a final attack and you will have attack up medium.

in total, the skills you'll have active will be:
attack up medium
stun negated/halved
combination +5 (if that alone has 10 skill points that is, not active if the it adds only 5 skill points)

OR
attack up small
gluttony - fat eating
stun negated/halved
combination + 5

s'up to you, either way if you ever need advice i'm happy to help.
(may need your help taking on the royal ludroth anyway lol)

Thanks for that.

Crafted the Jaggi Helm (meaning I just need a Jaggi weapon entire set), crafted 2 Gluttony Stones and an Attack stone which has now given me Active Skills of

Gourmand
Attack Up (S)
Halve Stun

How did you get that page you posted in the screenshot btw? I got my stats from the Equipment menu...

No problem,

if i remember correctly. press to open the menu (if using the pro controller... the - button where select is on a ps controller) go right and open up your equipment, then go right again and it should be there.

bare in mind thats off the top of my head. i know its the second page for sure.

for the jaggi weapon set. hunt the giant jaggi about 3/4 times, should have everything you need for the helm and the weapon upgrade to commanders sword.

when would you be free to team up online?

I've got the helm, just the sword I need. Trying to decide between trying to get that and playing Dead Space 2 (admittedly I have to play the latter as I'm supposed to be reviewing it...)

As for when I can be online, depends on my other half really, she's doing a 12 hour shift at the hospital (left the house at half 6 this morning for a 7 o clock start, wont be home till 8 though). Might end up hooking the Wii up in the bedroom just to play this though :D

Speaking of which, do you use a keyboard, Wii Speak or the software keyboard? I use a USB keyboard, used a mates Wii Speak at his house once, thought it was awful (and my TV doesn't seem to pick up when someones speaking over it either...)
