Cool I hope you enjoy it. I am begining to get exitced now for mine!

I bet you are! Not long at all until you go, you got everything sorted? I'm hoping you might share a few pictures when you get back ;)

I went On Japan Journeys Manga Tour in 2006. I loved it we went all round Tokyo, Hotel in Shinjuku, went to Harajuku, Akihabara, Shibuya and on the free day you get I selected the optional tour and went to Mt. Fuji and the lake next to it. Including spending money it was the best £3000 I've every spent.

I soo want to go back at some point.

Been learning a bit of Japnese to help with ordering stuff. It is a really difficult langauge to learn. Also got a plug adpater so I can charge my phone and camera! It is nearly time!

I don't know if its still avalible, but anouyingly I found a great podcast to help with basic survival phrases. It was on www.japanesepod101.com and that part was free to download.

It's great as they focused on stuff you actually use.

But I found just being polite, saying please and thankyou helped alot.

Been twice :)

First time in 2005, a two week tour with one friend. We did Tokyo, Kyoto (side trips to Himeji and Nara), Okoyama, Hiroshima, Kobe, then back to Tokyo.

Second time was in 2008. Friend (different from previous trip) got married to a Japanese girl so they had a Shinto wedding for her family - I went to that with a third friend - just stayed in Tokyo that time.

I need to see some guides before going there like "x places that need to be visited in Japan" for example or something like that.

I need to know if its needed some kind of documents besides passport or whatever too.

If you're touring do you do really need a Japan Rail Pass, which can only be got in 7, 14 and 21 day vouchers from outside the country (and not for business travellers either). These can be used on quite a few of the undergrounds (not Kyoto's, nor the Hiroshima trams (I think from memory)), plus ferries as well. Of course if you're just staying in Tokyo they're not worth it (also it's not worth getting the Green Pass version - regular Shinkansen travel is still on a par with business class).

quick update halfway through the trip.been to the ghibi museum and it was amazing got me a little ponyo keyring for my keys. my missus decided to go mad with akb48 stuff. we now have 5 different boxsets of live concerts that will have to watch when we get back! i got yakuza zero, yakuza 1 and 2 hd, yakuza 5 and final fantasy type 0 games because the uk is never getting them it:s seems! i have been able to get around shinjuku pretty well thanks to my knowlegde of the yakuza games! and they said that playing games dosen]t teach you anything! akb 48 is everywhere here they pretty much rule toyko ( can you tell i dont like them). the food is amazing and its very cheap and there are drink vendors on every corner so you are never thristy. trying to have a ciragette is very hard cause you have to kind of smoke in the back streets where guards arent around. been to a few shrines where we saw some really cool japanese style weddings. the arcades are really cool as well. spent a bit too much money getting figures out there!

got the anime studio visit to toei tomorrow so if i see the new sailor moon desgins while i am there i will let you know what i think!

lol she wanted to go to a host club! :D

glad we decided to leave the little one at home now so we can be out late as we want! my mum is looking after her.

update yesterday i managed to get hit in the nuts by a basball in the battering cage!then i got one in the back of the head. going to akihabna tomorrow as well. so i will let you know what happens there.

the jet jag is still with us so next year i am going for 2 weeks so it isnt so bad.

i have a free day today so i will be using the time to get a feeling for all the food! also seem a relaxtion room that lets you play games, read manga and watch anime for just a 1000 yen for 2 hours.

also seen a fair bit of anime on the tv in the morning and evening while we have been inbetween places!

one lesson that i have learned is this: dont challenge a japanese person in a arcade to a beat em up game. you will get destroyed! they have a reputation for a good reason!

photos will uploaded when ever i have time. maybe today at some point.

today i think we will do some karoke so it might filmed and put up here later if you guys are interested! warning i might be drunk!

also i have a feeling i am going to be dragged to a cat maid cafe later today so that will be interesting. one member of the group got his ears cleaned by a maid while he had his head on her lap! japan is crazy. add jetlag and you are always in a dazed " did i just see that happen " reaction!

anyway will blog more later. if you guys want to ask me any questions about my expenices in tokyo please go ahead and ask and i will do my best to answer them!

Nice info devil, keep it coming. Im going to japan this summer :D :D :D :D

Glad to hear that the food/drinks are cheap and you can get them "in every corner".

Keep them coming and share some photos if possible.

I was at ghibli museum website and they were saying:

Entrance to the Ghibli Museum is strictly by advance purchase of a reserved ticket which specifies the appointed date of the reservation.

Did you buy tickets a few days before going there? I wanna go there even though Im not a big ghibli fan.

Did you made a route plan before going to japan or you're just going to places now and deciding in the moment? Im thinking about planning a route or something, though it might not work when it comes the time lol

lol she wanted to go to a host club!

Fear not, devil! I should still have the notes I made on hosts preferences from Yakuza 2. Without them you'll never find the way to their hearts, no matter how much charm you have; they don't think along rational lines as a normal being does, instead they require very specific random input that you can only discover through trial and error.

trying to have a ciragette is very hard cause you have to kind of smoke in the back streets

Has anyone ever been able to explain the logic behind Japan's decision to ban smoking in outside public spaces, but allow it in indoor public spaces? :?

It's not like you can smoke anywhere you like as long as you are indoors, or nowhere you like if you are outdoors. A lot of places have designated smoking areas, and as for outdoors I would draw a comparison to the attitude towards alcohol in America.
