Skyrim

After reading a MSN article on it (never usually pay attention to whet they say, 90% of the time its useless hocum) but it changed my opinion and i'm slightly tempted to buy it, the lack of a multiplayer mode is the downfall though :/

Would those who have already played the previous games in the series recommend buying 4 first or just jumping straight into 5?

If you're scared, try Oblivion first maybe. But I'd personally just jump into 5.

Ok so I got screwed when I died on a trap and then rembered that I hadn't saved in 2 hours! That was pretty bad! But I am really enjoying it at the moment. I am a cat person because they look cool.My weapon of choice is a mace and a shield and I am wearing light armour. I am sure a lot of people started doing the golden claw mission straight away :D

@spyro, its not being scared lol i meant more like should i play oblivion to learn the story or what? Also, if you can choose what you are.... can you be a dwarf?

If so, i'll buy it.

Lack of multiplayer is the problem? It was never built to be multiplayer and doesn't need it in any way shape or form. If you play the game yourself, you'll see what i mean.

As for Oblivion, it takes place in a different continent of the world and about 300 years previous. There is background story elements thrown in here or there but overall, you don't need to play any elder scrolls games to get started in the next. Pick it up because it'll be cheap, that's what Shirayuri means.

Now onto my thoughts having only played 3 hours of it(time wasn't on my side the past two days). I prefer it to Oblivion by a large margin. Oblivion was nice, lush and expansive for it's time sure, but this does just up the playing field more. Gameplay mechanics feel solid both in first person and third person views, the landscapes look amazing, character models maybe not so much, but my Nord female is looking mighty fine regardless i will say.

The changes to how skills work and leveling up is was necessary and done just as they should have. You don't need to worry about going to a bed to level up anymore, you do it on the fly. And it's only one point you get, but the choices you have are vast, and you kinda get pushed not to just focus on one of the trees as well.

I also already have two characters running from the get go. I didn't expect a fork in the road 10 minutes into gameplay, but it was enough to push me to check what was down both.

So yeah, so far, i'm enjoying it. I just wish i had more time to get on it.

That you prefer it to Oblivion by a large margin is perhaps a good thing. How do you feel it does in drawing you into the world and investing into the story and goals?

My main issue with Oblivion (and I TRIED to like it, really I did, I usually like fantasy RPG and I must own like 3 copies of Oblivion now) is it just kinda felt a bit hollow. It almost felt like Bethesda had half made the world, and left the rest of the world, characters and quests to be filled in by modders.

Also, have they done away with or fixed the annoying system where enemies level up with you, but without a maximum cap, so you can still be muched by a rat at later levels?

Ok so the level cap has been shot and blown up now. The enemies are at different levels. You can level what parts of your characters you want more. For example I have got 20% more damage on my mace now along with 60% extra damage for using a one handed weapon. There is a dwafish looking race with a nice selection of beards for you to choose from.

Update I have just smacked up my first dragon with my mighty mace! ok so I used my fellow fighters as bait so that i could twat the dragon in the back of the head but hey a victory is a victory says I !

That's good to hear, the scaling system was my main gripe with Oblivion so it's good to see it fixed

Bingo.

I'm loving Skyrim. Currently playing a Dark Elf spellsword. It's a lot of fun. High damage output, but fairly flimsy makes for an interesting experience. I'm tempted to roll an Argonian/Wood Elf assassin though to get some fun out of archery and sneaking. My Dark Elf is dominating with swords and destruction magic at the moment.

Oh and magic in this game is so cool. I never get bored of scorching enemies <3

Update : Just lost my horse godammit! Doing a tour of all the major landmarksd and towns in the game at the moment, picking up loads of quests and I will be off to do them in a moment.

No i just think that by the sounds of it, a multiplayer version would be really good for it. If you have to kill monsters higher levels to you and so on-so forth then a a MMORPG is only a step away.

"Hi Lasershark, it's the NatWest Bank here. Listen, are you aware you could purchase twelve thousand shares in RBS instead of buying Skyrim? Wouldn't that be a better move? Please?"

Oblivion is currently £5 for the Deluxe edition on Steam. Worth it for the mods, surely?

I'm about 4 something hours into Skyrim and it hasn't grabbed me yet. But it is good to see that you can still walk on the sheer sides of mountains.

I did come across this guy earlier...

Either glitched forever in his death throes or praying to the morning god.

Guh, ended up playing this waaaaaay too much so now I only just have time to start iM@S2 before I go to bed. ;_;

Put about nine hours in today and can't decide if I loved it so much I want to play loads more, or if I loved it so much that I wish there wasn't quite as much too it and I could more easily see the extent of what the game has to offer. Just the thought of how far in so many people already are with completely different gameplay experiences reminds me why I don't gravitate to this genre so much.

As for the actual game, playing a sexy High Elf as a black mage, things just die once you have the dual casting destruction perk, not really had any problems (except wanting to be able to carry more stuff, maybe). Just off to talk to the Greybeards now, but that looks far away so I might do one or two other side quests first.

And how in the hell I'm supposed to have the time to read all the books, I don't know. Is there an online repository of them at all?

Yup, this is a convenience that I think they need to keep on including, would make the game way less fun if you couldn't crazily trek across some parts of it like Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible II.
