Being a paedophile isn't a crime though, is it? Creating/distributing child porn and abusing children is a crime, but being a paedophile isn't.

If someone is accused of a crime and hanged (or lethal injection etc etc), if new evidence comes forward later on that proves that they were actually innocent all along, there's nothing you can do about it and the state would have sent an innocent person to their grave.

At least if they're in prison or some other institution they can be acquitted of their crimes and released. Sure, it will still be bitter for that person, but they won't be dead.

And the "owning fictional sexual images of characters who could be construed to be minors" is, in my opinion, so daft it should never become law. If the 'crime' has no victim, then why is it a crime?

The fear that if someone gets overexposed to certain things they will soon start to think it's normal?

Hell, I can be seen as a bit of a prude, but I'm fine with fiction as long as 1) it's fictional and 2) It has a purpose.

I don't think the people owning the material should be criminally charged, but I think the people creating such fictional material should be stopped. I think the creation of fictional sexually explicit material involving youths- which has been created for the sole purpose tantalization- does indeed have a real victim: the paedophiles. Paedophilia is often considered to be a mental disorder rather than an inherent evil. I do believe there are paedophiles who do wish to change and become more balanced, and such material serves no other purpose then to make those people's lives harder and make it more difficult for them to regain balance. It as Joshawott said, it comes down to: does it serve a purpose other then to tantalize and exploit and certain audience.

I remember Ayase once commenting that this material can help paedophiles feel more contained and content without having to harm anyone. This is the most valid argument, However I don't agree that in practice this works, as I believe living as a paedophile is an inherently inwardly and outwardly destructive state to be in, and I don't believe such material will help.

Sorry, I think we've already had this discussion before, but I thought I'd add my two cents.

Did I post in this thread?

If I didn't, yeah, we should be helping paedophiles, murderers and the like with their problem before they actually do something, rather than waiting for them to do something them going "OMFG MURDER THEM NAO!"
