SFX Magazine covering anime

The Boss
The newest issue of SFX Magazine (now in shops) comes with a free cover-mounted anime DVD. It includes three episodes of new TV series being released by MVM:

Romeo X Juliet Part 1
Fate Stay Night Part 2
Rozen Maiden Part 1

It also brings an article on 'The A-Z of Anime' and reviews of Ponyo, Romeo x Juliet 1 and Dark Dreams.

This can only be good news - wider coverage of anime in the specialist media is bound to generate a few new fans for the medium.

I can't imagine many converts coming from a magazine like this. Manga Ent are always in these things and they always post reviews of the latest releases anyway. It's not exactly opening a new door. I think you will find that a considerable amount of [vocal] science fiction fans know about anime, but just don't care about it - impossible to understand, I know!

Granted, but I was thinking more in terms of things like this being a good jumping-on point for the curious.

My experience has been that folks who 'don't do anime' generally just have to be exposed to the right show. I mean, I have friends who aren't big on anime, but since I sat through GITS: SAC with them, they talk about it in the same breath as TV shows like Lost and 24.

People can be won over. Yuss indeed!

He's right you know. Not that long ago, a friend frequently criticized anime. Then I dragged her to see Ponyo with me last week and she loved it.
You just need to show them the anime that suits their interests.

Surely you would know? What comes in it is written up there.

Which brings me onto another point, why give out a Part 2? Has F/SN had a Part 1 given out already?

yes, I've got part 1 as a freebie with something. I was going to say NEO, but I'm not really sure now.

ah ha, i was right me and arbles aren't going mad

i knew i'd seen a post somewhere about a free F/SN dvd

Those freebie 'test drive' DVDs are a great idea. It's a neat way to check out shows to see if you warm to them and want to see more.

The majority of my purchases are made either on the strength of recommendations or after seeing trailers.

Indeed, there's no such thing as someone who doesn't like animé, just as you say "someone who hasn't seen the right show." One of my own examples, my parents basically had the opinion that anime = pokemon/ digimon, I introduced them to Death Note and they loved it, cos they're big fans of murder mystery/ detective stuff.

I have a friend who quite often asks me about anime - but every single time, she cites Pokemon as an example.

My reaction is to pull my best 'this tea needs more sugar' face, and hope that it'll eventually get through to her.
