Release plans for Durarara, Baccano & Eden of the East

You're forgeting DVD eps on DRRR there, it's 1 ep shorter than TTGL. And isn't one of those TTGL eps a recap clip show.

As regards to encoding costs, why couldn't we use NTSC here. Are those 96 extra lines realy worth all the effort of having to remaster everything.

Didn't know Durarara!! had extra DVD episodes, are they proper ones or cheap put together ones do you know?

Well for those few customer that has a TV or DVD player that can't handle NTSC. I agree it would be better to use NTSC version as it will save a lot of money and I can't see many people not unable to run them as most experiment now can run NTSC.

Ignoring the debate entirely and with no plan to enter it, I just want to say I'll be buying it on day one and thank you to Beez.

There'll no doubt be cheaper releases down the line for those who don't see the show without a dub as being worth the asking price, and that's fine - it's a rational standpoint to take if the show isn't worth that much to you. Having seen (R1) Baccano and loved it, I am perfectly happy to throw Gurren Lagann level money at its spiritual successor through online vendors (or possibly in the Beez shop, with Unicorn v2, hint hint :)).

I want to encourage the UK in finally getting some timely releases and I have money. It's exciting to me to see the UK emerging as a more interesting market, after all these years of having to import everything I watch because by the time our version is out the imports are almost free. Beez has been experimenting with all kinds of formats lately and I approve of the results if it means I get to watch Durarara!! sooner than expected.

Real eps I'd assume, Baccano's were certainly. It's on a DVD that only has 1 other TV ep on it and was anounced in pleanty of time. Not out for a while so can't be certain.

There's only 1 extra DVD episode? so its 2 episodes shorter than TTGL as that had 27 episodes. Never watched TTGL but it could be good recap episode :). There was interesting recap episode with eureka seven which gave you new information on the story events.

1 anounced so far on disk 7 (between eps 12 and 13). It'll have a disk that only has 1 ep on it if if doesn't have another and keeps to having 2 eps on each disk. Only know whats on the disks up to 10 (ep 19) so far.
TTGL has a mid season recap ep. I belive of the we're behind scedule need to fill this airing slot variety. I know there are a few good ones about, Vampire Bund's all the scenes we hadn't finished animating when they aired one for instance.

Far more than was really necessary
Sometimes, I really do wonder why I bother. You aren't going to change your opinion. I'm not going to change mine. What the hell's the point? All human contact seems more and more like little more than pointless conflict (the only kind of human contact I ever get involved in these days, anyway). I either stay quiet and avoid it or speak up and give myself more grief than I need. Just... have whatever opinion you bloody well like. I'm bored now.

The worst thing about the Durarara!! release isn't the price, it's splitting the show into three parts. Anyone who's been watching the show knows that it isn't structured in the same way as Gurren Lagann. The show is structured so that every 12 episodes covers one novel. It just doesn't make any sense splitting it into three parts. It'd be much better to release two volumes with 12 episodes each.

Huh! I didn't think about it that way. It does make more sense to have it in two parts instead of three!

.......Doesn't really work like that for a number of reasons - the biggest of which being a lack of Australian masters costs just under that that PER TAPE to transcode so any saving is greatly outweighed by the cost to transcode.

Nice thinking but ultimately on the grand scale of production it doesn't work out as a great saving sadly.
Wait, wait, wait. Are you saying you get your masters on tape? Digi-Beta, or HDcam? PM me if you want.

The problem Beez, and any other anime releasing company not competing directly with the R1 market, will always face is that Americans get DVDs faster and, more often than not, cheaper.

It's great that Baccano is coming out, yes... but I imported my set for around £18 last Christmas from America, and it can still be gotten for the same price now. The response speed has been too slow when the series has been available to import for that cheap for so long.

As for Dura getting expensive, TTGL style releases, it's great for Beez if they have enough collectors buying to cover their costs/make a small profit. But 90% of people will no doubt just wait for a cheapo box set release instead of paying £75+ for the entire series...

I hadn't thought of that either. It's really obvious where the novel ends and sets the show into a different swing. Might be better to release a a higher price and just do the two releases instead of three. It's not like they need to wait for the dubs to be released in America which can hold back anime releases.

This thread could be condensed into one small post with the concise info, and one large post that just reads "waaaaah waaaaaaah waaaaah mummy I dropped my favorite teddy bear waaaaaaah".
