@Professor Irony Are there any Lupin films/specials you would recommend? Either because they are solid entries in the series or just interesting?
Eh, it depends a little on what you're looking for. I think Castle of Cagliostro and Mystery of Mamo are the best of the films, the former being pretty much perfect as a family-friendly adventure and the latter being the truest screen depiction of what Lupin was originally like in the manga (i.e. dark, adult and weird), although I know a lot of folk do bounce off that one just because it's so out there compared to everything else.
Those are the ones everyone talks about though. Personally, I really like The Fuma Conspiracy, it's a very Japanese take on the Indiana Jones formula, full of booby-trapped hideouts and madcap chases, but it's also gorgeously animated - they got a lot of the animation staff from Cagliostro to come back for that one and it really shows, the setpieces look amazing. I also have a soft spot for Goodbye Lady Liberty; it's a bit more wooly with its storytelling (the villains are doing... something?), but it feels like a film noir detective movie, with its brooding, shadowy depiction of New York, and curious, melancholic mood at the root of it all.
