The Ideon: Be Invoked - 10/10

I've always really liked Ideon, both the TV and movies, and after re-watching them again my opinion of A Contact hasn't changed, a much more succint and focussed story compared to the TV series (that does at times fall into the 'new baddie' of the week trap), but Be Invoked was different. I hadn't really appreciated the character development and the real sense of desparation that both sides face. Ideon is brutal and this is handled very well IMO plus it is truly grand in scale. Ideon also has a genuinely trippy feel to it that magnifies some of the character's situations and the music is excellent and reinforces all aspects of the films. I last watched theses movies about 5 years ago and I have say none of the new anime that I've watched since then really compares to it, which is why I think I was so taken with it. It really is a genuine sc-fi classic.
 
Berserk: 8.5/10 Really good series with good action and very dark and gritty story. Would of rated it higher but the animation (old) and the voice acting isn't the best imo. However I am going to be checking out the Berserk Movies.

Naruto Movie: Ninja Clash In The Land of The Snow: 9/10

Naruto Movie: Legend of the Stone of Gelel: 6/10 This movie was pretty boring TBH, the plot didn't interest me in the slightest and the action scenes was mediocre.

Naruto Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom: 9.5/10 Best movie out of the three I actually cared about the plot and the characters that was introduced. Also the disc had a good amount of extras for the dubbed cast which is something I haven't seen for a while.
 
Jojo's first season - 10/10

Haven't gone through an entire 24 ep series as quickly as I did with this in a long time. Just so refreshing after most of today's Shonen series to have a show where most fights are done and dusted in an episode or two. The pacing in the show is incredibly well done, and it strides such a brilliant line between the comedy and high drama too.

I've seen other people describe the show as the Shakespeare of anime - and it really does feel like that, just in the theatre and staging of it all.
 
I think the furious pace of the first season was, at least in part, to get through Phantom Blood as quickly as possible. It's generally held as the weakest part of Jojo and the earlier film version was notoriously poor (and does not exist). Not to say that it doesn't work though; I think the sheer speed of it was a real asset.
 
Naruto Shippuden Movie 2: Bonds - 7/10 Average movie some decent action and an alright plot but the best thing about this movie is that you get to see abit of Sasuke which is the only thing the movie had going for it to be honest.

Naruto Shippuden Movie 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire - 6/10 I can't even remember what happened in this movie and I watched it yesterday which just shows how boring and uninteresting it really was.

Naruto Shippuden Movie 4: The Lost Tower - 9.5/10 Best Naruto movie to date I actually cared about the characters in this movie seeing The Fourth Hokage and some other characters when they was younger. The action in this movie was really well done and that end and finishing move was the best part about the movie.
 
One Piece Collection 6

The worst collection so far.

The first arc of this collection is the Post-Alabasta arc. It consists of five stand alone stories based on Chopper, Nami, Sanji, Usopp and Zoro. All of these were kinda naff and uninteresting apart from Zoros! pretty poor filler arc, even for One Piece. The next arc is the Goat Island arc. This has to be by far the worst filler arc in any anime i have ever seen! It was DULL and boring as ****! Goats and a dying old man is the premise. Goats? really? Even though this arc was only 3 episodes long, it felt like it lasted an eternity! People complain about filler in Naruto and Bleach, but this is much worse! The next arc is Ruluka Island arc. While this is better than the previous two filler arcs, as it had better character development and a engaging plot, it was still pretty tedious! It just dragged on and on! I didn't in particularly care about the damn kids!

After these three filler arcs, we get back to the actual on going story with the Jaya Arc. While not as interesting as the alabasta arc, it is interesting. It introduces some important new characters, has some nice action and sets up the tension that the next arc is going to have. The highlight of the arc is Luffys confrontation with Belammy.

And so the last few episodes begin the Skypiea arc. Even though it's only a few episodes in, the arc is is already alot more interesting than all of the previous ones! As you can tell alot of things are going to go down in the next collection!

Overall, One Piece collection 6 is the worst one so far, with it's AWFUL filler! But then again how do you match up to the Alabasta arc. Hopefully the 7th collection will be better
 
Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (1989)

Being a significant departure from the usual formula, this intensely personal series about the loss of innocence to warfare isn't necessarily what I would have gone looking for from a Gundam series, but I think it's a clever and quietly affecting piece of storytelling that really deserves a broader audience than it seems to get. It's difficult to know what to liken it to - thematically, it's probably got more in common with Empire of the Sun than Gundam's usual politicised action-drama - but I would not hesitate to recommend it, regardless of any pre-conceived notions about the wider franchise.
 
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Not usually a fan of mecha anime with big fights, so assumed i'd not like this. Heard it was somehow similar to Death Note, so when I saw the BD of season 1 for £14 on amazon I bit. Ended up absolutley loving this season. Was hooked from the get go, watched 3 episodes a night on Tuesday-Thursday and then ended up watching 5 episodes saturday evening, 5 episodes sunday morning (7am-9am) and the final 6 last night.

Great characters, gripping storyline and fantastic set pieces. The cliffhanger made me go buy season 2 straight away but i've heard it's not as good as season 1 so i'm not going in expecting anything near the quality of this superb season.

Robotics;Notes

This is definitely a series that, on the surface at least, suffers from multiple seriesonality disorder. High school drama, mecha passion, bizarre Illuminati conspiracies, legit high-concept scifi... all of these are what the show appears to be about at one time or another. But I think that, at its heart, it is not just a series about robots, but it in fact is a super robot series. Viewed through this lens, a lot of things become easier to accept, and a lot of potential problems become far less relevant.

The last six-and-a-half episodes fly by at a pace that possibly undermines the light hearted nature of much of the first two thirds of the show, the second half of episode 16 in particular standing out like a sore thumb. But the show has such an overwhelmingly youthful determination, and such likable characters, that I found it easy to overlook some pacing issues.

There are a clutch of moments that stand out above the rest, most of them charmingly well played character interactions, and I never found the show anything less than enjoyable.

Demon City Shinjuku

Just as good as it was back in my teen years :)

This is old school anime at it's best! It has cheesy music, hammy (but hilarious) dialogue, Kick ass action scenes and a basic save the world from evil plot! If you're into no brainer anime like me, then you'll love this!

the animation is top notch here! Especially for 1988! the movement is fluent and the action scenes are well choreographed! The plot here is just your basic good vs evil scenario: evil man is trying to take over the world and good guy must stop him. Pretty simple, but satisfying none the less. As for the action, all i can say is BOOM, BOOM and more BOOM! Loads of explosions and energy blasts! Great stuff! Another great aspect is the dialogue. There alot of unnecessary swearing which is more funny than annoying! It just makes the film more cheesy fun!

If there are any gripes about the movie, it's probably that the final confrontation with Revi Ra was rather short. It was still good, but it could have been longer. I also didn't see the point of the character Mephisto. Sure he had a cool fight scene, but why was he there?

Overall, Demon City Shinjuku is a great, fun action packed movie! If you like cheesy action anime, with hammy dialogue, you should check this out!

I'd be very surprised if they hadn't just run out of cash by the time the ending rolled around. Although I haven't read it, I'd also hazard a guess that Mephisto would have had a more significant part in the original novel.

I do still really like that film though.

Bleach Movie 3 - Fade To Black 7/10

Bleach Movie 4 - Hell Verse 9.5/10

Number one and two were both really enjoyable movies with some great action and decent plot. Number three however was boring in my opinion I didn't really care for the new characters and the plot which was introduced into this movie. Number four was the best all round movie and that animation for the last movie was quality.
