it could been something if they opened up the characters backgrounds more and theres only few of those. miyu is a sort of Guardians * isn't explained very well* but her roll is to send demons called shinma back to the darkness by killing them and this is where monster of the week pops in, she doesn't do it to help human * heartless bitch * cause its her destiny, i couldnt understand what that destiny is, anyways like i said its a monster of the week with a ghost story theme.

sorry but it was boring and the only thing going for it is its ghost storys

this series is like a ghost story of sorts for each episode, in each episode it involves people who has nothing to do with the main character,
 
Dragonball Z - History Of Trunks 9/10

And what a terrible history it is. Covering the events of an alternate future where Goku dies of a heart virus and Androids #17 and #18 wreak havoc across the world killing everyone except a grown up Gohan, who gets maimed and teen Trunks. Makes something of a lie of Goku's claim that the world is safer without him. With no Dragonballs to bring them back the Androids roam unapposed lending a post apocalyptic vibe to the precedings. Gohan mentors Trunks until he turns Super Saiyan but that's not enough so Trunks travels back in time and the rest we know from the main show.

This aired just before the start of the Cell Games originally, and is a poignant, downbeat "What If?" exploration of how important Goku and his influence is on the rest of the "Z Warriors".

Lovely Complex

Let’s clear up something first. When I rate a show 10/10, it doesn’t necessarily mean that I think it’s perfect. 10/10 means that I enjoyed a show so much that I am willing to overlook completely any flaws that it may have. As the score goes down, it means then that the flaws are becoming substantial enough to affect my enjoyment.

Now consider some of the flaws in Lovely Complex. In terms of presentation, Discotek has spared every expense. Your menu options come down to “What episode do you want to watch?” and “Do you want subtitles or not?”

And guess what. None of this mattered, because Lovely Complex is the sweetest, craziest, most heartfelt, most spontaneous romcom I’ve seen thus far. And in Risa Koizumi it has a wonderful leading lady. She’s tough yet vulnerable, funny yet focussed, psycho yet sweet. She’s all these contrasts in a tall, stylish package.

She’s vying for the affections of Atsushi Ohtani, who in contrast starts off as possibly the densest leading male I’m likely to encounter in a genre that is built on dense leading males. Forget being oblivious to Risa’s feelings; with him it borders on abject denial. Yet it is impossible not to like him, because throughout he remains loyal to Risa and the two of them show a remarkable chemistry from the get-go that earns your full support.

It’s also just as well that this is a sub-only release, because I can’t think that any English vocal cast would be able to do justice to the energy on display here, or indeed to the “Osaka Awesomeness” as stated on the dvd cover. The easy to read subtitles help as well, and I like how they’ve been kept the translation true but also contemporary (“heartgasm”, anyone?).

There is however one salient criticism I have, that after Episode 18 the series does become a bit unfocussed and meandering, like it’s trying to bide its time until the end with a number of ancillary subplots of which some end rather anticlimactically. On the plus side you do get to see the extent of Atsushi’s love for Risa – apparently it’s enough to upstage the 2007 IAAF World Championships – and what Risa’s family thinks of her boyfriend.

This started with me viewing a short clip on Youtube, the climax of Episode 18 in fact. Something about that clip made me decide that this was a title worth owning. It is.

One thing I really appreciated about Love Com was its brevity; despite that extra little bit of padding at the end, they manage to wrap it all up very well within one season. I think it if had dragged on, it might have risked outstaying its welcome (like so many other, similar shows), but 26 eps was more or less spot on for its story.

the main male lead is boring and lame, but a few of the female leads are good

the story isn't bad

Watched Ah! My Goddess Season 1, making my way through Season 2 and hope to have it finished over the weekend. Also trying to make a start on Bleach Season 8.

Ah! isn't anything amazing but it's very pleasant to watch. I like switching off to it and that's what I like. I have no opinion on Bleach yet as I'm two episodes in :p
 
Dragonball Z - season 7 9.5/10

25 episodes covering the Great Saiyaman and World Tournament Sagas. Ah these bring back happy memories. This is when I started watching the show on a daily basis, video all set to record (still got all the tapes, Ocean Dub FTW), so my nostalgia googles are on. That said, it's all great stuff, even the few episodes of filler at the start of the Saiyaman Saga (the Netherworld Tournament) are of high quality.

Toriyama always said he had the couples hook up off screen as he felt he couldn't write romance, but it does show the unfolding relationship between Gohan, now starting high school after a 8 year time skip (and has a new brother, the adorable Goten too) and Videl - daughter of Hercule - very sweetly. I love the bonds of friendship and family that tie all the characters together in this show. Even though one of those bonds will be tested very hard in the next dvd set.

The World Tournament Saga contains one of my fave fights, between Videl and Spopopooppovitch. It was gruelling enough edited for TV, but on the dvd it's one of the most violent and bloody since Goku vs. Vegeta way back in the Saiyan Saga. The Tourney Saga also effectively builds tension for the Buu Saga's to come and though it officially ends when they all fly off to find Babidi, the Tournament does continue, as a lighter hearted counterpoint to the more serious stuff going on elsewhere. Top stuff.

Am I right in thinking the climactic episode 18 is when Risa and Atsushi get together? I have the DVD set but haven't watched past the first couple of episodes yet (the video quality is awful, which I believe is an issue with the source material). If so, it will suffer less than the manga, which dragged on for 7 or 8 volumes after that point. Love rivals, contrivances, misunderstandings. Still entertaining, of course, but one of the reasons I decided to buy the anime despite owning the manga is that figured it wouldn't - mercifully - have the scope to cover everything in the manga.

It is indeed, yeah. I'd no idea the manga ran for so long after that though. It was a fair stab at keeping the series going beyond where many others would have ended it, but it wasn't hard to see that it was running out of steam.

That's a shame about the video quality as well, my understanding was that the Discotek releases have all been very good so far.
 
Dragonball Z - season 8 10/10

A tonne of stuff happens in this season - Hercule "wins" the Tenkaichi Tournament (thanks to a deal with No.18), Vegeta becomes Majin Vegeta so he can fight Goku, the resulting energy awakening the fat pink blob Mr. Boo to wreack havoc with Babadi, Gohan gets taken to the Kaioshin planet to train to defeat him, Goten and Trunks learn the fusion dance, Goku goes Super Saiyan 3, and Vegeta, well that's the part I wana talk about in spoiler tags.

Majin Vegeta realises what a mistake he made as he battles Goku, conflicted between what his head wanted - to return to his evil ways and be more powerful and what his hearts wants - how much he loves his family. When he finally decides to stop fighting Goku he rabbit punches him and goes to fight alone. He gets utterly thrashed. Goten and Trunks go to help him and at this point he makes a decision to commit suicide by overloading his power and destroying Buu in the process. He gives Trunks his first hug ever, and then knocks him and Goten out so Piccolo can take him to safety. One of the reasons I dislike Chirs Sabat as a voice artist is that he does both Piccolo and Vegeta, and neither as well as Scott McNeil and Brian Drummond. The scene is heart breaking in the Japanese and Ocean dubs, a joke in the Funi one. Also whats frustrating about filler showing villans keeping their bodies after to death is that it makes light of Vegeta's sacrifice. When he asks if he'll be able to fight Goku in the afterlife, Piccolo says no, he is going to hell. His soul will be seperated from his body and scrubbed clean, even this act of self sacrifice doesn't make up for all the death he cause. Vegeta just sadly accepts this. One thing I preferred in the Ocean dub was Vegeta final words to Trunks. In the Japanese he just says "see you around". In the Ocean dub he says "Trunks my son. You made me proud". Coming from someone who values pride as highly as he does it's immense and personal praise indeed. Of course his sacrifice fails, but I tell you, even after seeing it several times, it still brings a tear to my eye.

Anyway, a fantastic season, and what a cliffhanger Hercule changes Buu for the better using not violence, but kindness and friendship,sadly this too fails thanks to the stupidity of man. When it ended on this cliffhanger when I watched it on Toonami I was fair gagging for the next season I tell you!

this is a charming lil anime about a 2 brothers, the eldest being the head of the family * there both still kids* and the youngest one has this power, which isn't explained very well and yokai are after him to eat him to get stronger and so for protection they release a fox deity to protect them from these yokai *who seems to be ruthless in my opinion, the fox i mean* this is what goes on but its also a charming series too and light hearted for the most part.

it isn't a bad lil series if you like charming light hearted stuff,

oh and also its a gender bender, literally the fox can be a man or a woman, imagine if you got drunk and was taking her out or him out and woke up to the same sex as you lol yeah

anyways it has its funny moments, charming moments, light hearted moments, but the story us average at best and the characters are average at best

They have indeed - FotNS, Project A-Ko, GE999, and the Lupin movies all look great - which is why I suspect the source material for Lovely Complex isn't up to much. It doesn't make the faces Risa pulls any less hilarious, though.
 
Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of Gods

Absolutely amazing! By far the best DBZ movie ever!

This movie was wonderful in every aspect and was a great nostalgic rush! Seeing Goku and friends interact after so many years is still fun to watch! The animation was marvelous! This has some of the best animation in DBZ history, with fluent movement, fantastically executed fights scenes, and some pretty decent CGI. The comedic scenes were also done VERY well. I don't usually find anime humor to be funny at all, but the humor here was very well done. The scene with Vegeta dancing was surprisingly very funny indeed!

Another thing i liked was how the story was different from the previous DBZ films. All the other DBZ films were pretty much the same thing! New villian arrives. Beats Goku. Goku turns Super Saiyan and beats villian. Rinse and repeat. I don't mind that so much, but it did get tedious REAL quick. This movie on the other hand was different. It focused more on an actual plot, comedy and character development. Also Bills and whis were very interesting antagonists, if you can really call them that. What made them more interesting is that they weren't actually evil or wanted revenge or so on. Bills just wanted someone tough to fight and seeked out the Super Saiyan God. this made him more original then your typical DBZ viilains and made him a whole lot more likable.

overall DBZ Battle of Gods, is absolutely amazing and epic, to the point i got goosebumps. If you are a DBZ fan YOU MUST WATCH THIS RIGHT NOOOOOOOOW!!!!

yeah but theres a few plot holes in the movie -
1 pilaf and his gang are kids, its never exactly explained why and how, he supposedly used the dragon balls to make him self young but wasn't his original wish to take over the world, if it was a blunder pilaf had 2 more wishes at his disposal but like i said unexplained,
2 how could vageta and bils know each other if bils was a sleep, also why is bils even with a young vageta in the first place.
3 gohan is useless as ever even in his ultimate form also why is he gone super saiyan he doesn't even need to because hes stronger without it,
4 they ask shernron what the SSG is, i thought shernron was a wishing dragon not a dragon that gives knowledge, you would of thought that they'd ask old kai if he knew what a SSG was, his been alive for millions of years
5 the SSG form was underwellming it looks like kio ken and the fact that you need 6 saiyans to pull it off is kinda disappointing
6 they use a unborn pan to give goku the power to go SSG which is stupid, they could of brought back future trunks and vagetas brother
7a fish tells bils that a SSG will challenge him to a fight in the future ( this was before the dragon ball series ) this is a problem because look at trunks future goku is dead and theres another bils in trunks future and.................. you know what im saying

Day Break Illusion - 6.5/10

This show turned out fairly good, after overcoming a baddie-of-the-week spell of four or five episodes early on. Reading reviews, the series seems to be getting a lot of flak for being a sub-par Madoka clone, as someone who hasn't got around to watching Madoka, I think its a flawed but perfectly acceptable magical girl anime. The final few episodes build up the story well, and had me wanting the villain to get his comeuppance, so can't complain on that front. There were a few plot holes and some things happened without being explained, but there's nothing to rule out a second installment, so perhaps things have been left to be expanded on.

Overall, not a great series, but definitely watchable. Not something I can see myself buying as a physical release, but certainly worth a look on Crunchyroll.

* TRAINS IN SPACE * kinda a loosy, train to be a space ship to carry passages and to be battle ships,

some of the stories are kinda silly like the ghost train episode and ghost planet, space technology and ghosts should not exist in the same universe, but beside that its was alright, it gets good as the series goes on

Steins;Gate 9.5/10

I'm a sucker for science fiction and Steins;Gate truly is a sci-fi show with a dash of hard science. The first 12 episodes are light hearted, exploring and building the relationships of the members of The Future Gadget Lab as well as the experiments with time travel via their phone/microwave machine. I watched the dub version and they have done a fantastic job keeping the comedy intact, replacing references that in Japanese would fall flat in English, with ones that are funny and appropriate for English speakers. Episode 12 ends with a real Wham and the next 12 episodes take on a more urgent tone as our hero finds out everything comes at a price, even time travel. It ends with a real head spinning use of time travel that makes the random events of episode one make sense and also... ah that would be telling.

Basically it's a funny, warm hearted show, full of likeable characters and a central premise that sci-fi fans will get a real kick out of. Artwise the character designs are nice and a subdued palette contrast with the more manic action. I was on tenterhooks waiting for part 2 after buying part 1 and it didn't disappoint. Best anime I have seen since PMMM and it has some interesting parallels with that show too. Great!

This series is a oldie with a bad dub and the story is kinda average and somewhat resembles that of games with a warrior a wizard ext ext it's not a bad series you do get a few laughs from it and that's it.

It's nothing to write home about but it's ok bad.

Dragonball Z - season 9 9/10

And so DBZ concludes with the fusion and kid boo sagas. Most of this is the battle against Boo but it stays fresh by having new characters turn up, while the fusions and Boo absorptions mean you don't get the same battle for more than a couple of episodes. It's a shame Gohan was finally sidelined in this. I rememeber at the time being annoyed that he got about ten episodes of powering up, only to have one episode kicking butt before being tricked and absorbed. But this did pave the way for Vegeta being bought back to fuse with Goku creating the ultimate warrior Vegetto. With Goku and Vegetas brute power and Vegeta's intelligence he manages to trick Buu into absorbing him where he splits back into Vegeta and Goku for a hilarious voyage around Buu insides. This ends with fat Buu being detached from the inside of Buu creating the ultimate Buu, Kid Buu and the crap really hits the fan

When Kid Buu arrives on the scene, he just starts blowing crap up. He even makes it to Heaven to cause trouble until Vegeta and Goku lure him to the Kai plalnet. There is a lovely bit of character development for Vegeta, as he watched Goku fight Buu he reflects on their rivalry and finally makes peace with the fact he will never attain the heights of Goku and he smiles genuinely and shows concern for his rival. It's great that in the end the Universe is saved by Vegetas plan, Goku's strength and Hercules reputation with the people of earth. And after a ten year time skip, which shows us what became of the characters DBZ ends.

Dragonball Z overall 10/10

"Shenanigans" I here you cry, "you gave some Sagas quite low marks". Well this is taking the whole view. DBZ was a huge influence on the big shonen stories that followed, and for many kids (and adults) watching CNX then Toonami and the turn of the century it acted as a gateway series even in it's cut and dubbed form to the wacky world of anime. Although in finished in the early 1990's, it's still a sucessful videogame franchise and new films are released on a regular basis. I love it's epicness and how it uses it's length to actually have characters change and grow. Enemies can become friends and lovers if their is even the smallest chance that they can be redeemed. The two most interesting characters, namely Gohan and Vegeta are two characters torn between opposite sides of their natures and unlike the "pure of heart" Goku, watching them struggle to reconcile those two sides is fascinating. This show has always been special to me due to it rekindling a love of anime that has dwindled in the 90's. It's exciting, funny, moving, and never really dull (apart from some early filler) always finding new things to keep the action fresh and interesting. It was my favourite anime of all time for 12 years, only supplanted recently by PMMM, but I still love it. Dragonball Z is awesome!
