Rate the last anime you watched out of 10

question

what pushes you to a series/movie over a 8 out of 10 *9 And *10

usually if a series is good id give it a 8 out of 10
if its unique and good i give it a 9/10
if its unique, good and is great in animation, story, set up then il give it a 9.5/10
if iif its all the above and its my type of anime then 10 /10

You know, if it actually deserves it.
The problem is that review scores are so ridiculous nowadays that anything 1-6 is considered bad, 7-8 (or 8.5 in IGN's case) is average whilst 9-10 is for the good stuff.
It's hard to take reviews seriously nowadays when the scores are so inflated.

To me, if there are only minor flaws then I would give the show a 9/10 (or possibly a 10/10 if it has at least one minor flaw, e.g. 5 Centimeters Per Second I gave a 10/10 for with one minor flaw being the music piece at the end which was a taste issue so that doesn't really count as a major problem, on the other hand being an emotional film to watch and adore.)

8/10 would go for those with one or two major flaws, Ghost in the Shell 2.0 is an example for misplaced CGI scenes and rather mixed ending (it's rather complicated to me at least) but having excellent music, cast and concept.
7/10 with three or more flaws etc, such as Angel Beats for having a rushed plot, mind-confusing conclusion and lack of development for half of the characters due to a short episode span, but has its moments and good story.

But really nothing can be 100% flawless (10/10) or 100% flawed (0/10). Every anime has at least 1/10 to start off with.

I'm very much in the camp of "5/10 is average dammit, and 7/10 is a good score". When I review games for a gaming website I am a staff member at, that's our general guideline. Mainly because the two major gaming magazines in the UK use that system too.

I recently ran out of games scored 8/10 or higher and started on the 5-7 rated ones and played some very enjoyable stuff.

@Mangaranga - i know right, isn't it

10 masterpiece
9 fantastic
8 very good
7 good
6 decent
5 average
4....... well you get the idea

i get that, maybe the reviewer didn't want to give the anime a bad rep because they feel there bashing something they like as a fan, this shouldn't be the case because ........... lets face it not all anime is good it depends on the persons taste on something, but if its not good give it a score that it deserves in your eyes instead of what others say about it, its like me-

i love squid girl and i give it a 9/10 and lucky star * in my opinion 10 /10 because of my taste for shows like theses, but to other people they'd see them as crap,

e.g.

*kids on a slope*

*clapping* it was a very decent series and its one of my favourite type of anime * slice of life* its school of 3-4 friends who gets together and becomes friends by playing jazz together and the life problems,

iv seen this sort of thing before, but i like it the animation looks very good, the characters are memorable, the musics goods, its worth a few review remarks on the dvd case which isn't there,

8/10

now iv seen people give this series a 8,5/10 or higher, dont get me wrong kids on the slope is a really good series but like i said its kinda not exactly my type of anime sure it has *slice of life* and is funny at times and has its emotional times sad and happy but there is always something in the series that you didn't want to happen or has a flaw,

on rare occasions there'll be a anime il hate but like at the same time but il hate it because of what happens in the series but give it a high score because of its uniqueness and story, characters, animation, get it?

if its a terrible anime like first squab then id give that a 3/10

get it

Fairy Tail Collection 1
7/10
A decent, if very unoriginal, Shonen series

First, Ill start by saying all the things I didn't like about the series (and there is a decent amount to). The animation was pretty inconsistent in terms of quality. One minute the animation will be pretty nice, with fluid movement, then the next it will mostly be full of still shots, The fight scenes suffered from this especially. Most of the fights in the series consists of still shots. I wouldn't have a problem with this if the still shots looked and sounded painful (Like in Baki The Grappler). The fight between Natsu and Erigor was just ALL still Shots! Come on man! That's lazy!

My second problem is that the Galuna Arc dragged WAAAAY too much! It was too boring, lame fight scenes and Clique and typical shonen-style backstory for Grey, making it hard to relate to an already boring character!!! I don't mind long arcs, but atleast make them interesting and new!

And my BIGGEST complaint about Fairy Tail is: (I apologize to Fairy tail Fans before hand) This seems like just a HUGE One Piece clone! Seriously! Everything from this just screams One Piece!!! The characters, the plots, the themes, the backstories, the colours, the comedy EVERYTHING!!! Now before anyone loses their ****, I am aware that the creator of this show worked with Oda, but that isn't really much of an excuse. The scene where Fairy Tail go to the Phantom lord place for revenge on their students, is VERY similar to a scene in One Piece where Luffy and co. go to some place to get revenge on a family who beat up Usopp. Coincidence?

Ok now that I've got that off my chest, onto the things I do like about the show:

Even though I complained about some of fights, there were at least a few fights, mainly the beginning and end, that were pretty good! The Phantom Lord arc has some very interesting fights.

Second, the series does have a lot of life and detail put into it. The setting is very cheerful and there is always something going on. Also some of the comedy does work and some scenes are very funny! The episode Changeling was a very funny and comedic episode that did make me laugh.

Lastly The Phantom Arc seems to be great so far as it contains some great action, a more serious tone and some great backstory for Elfman! I have a feeling this is going to be a great arc, especially compared to Glauna arc.

Before I end this review, I just want to apologize to any Fairy Tail fans that read this. If you love the show, that's great! I'm not hating on the show, It's just it seems way too much like One Piece and is kinda a steryotypical shonen show IMO.

Overall Fairy Tail is a fairly decent show, even if it is unoriginal.

I really enjoyed Fairy Tail, but maybe because I haven't seen One Piece yet it didn't feel so unoriginal. It's pacey and so far fights don't get unbearably stretched out like in DBZ or Bleach. One thing I liked most about it was strong female characters and equal opportunity fan service! I sort of liked how it felt a bit like playing an MMORPG. Anyway, I have Collection 2 pre-ordered, but I do plan on checking out One Piece so I can compare then.

okami- san and her seven companions

i like a lot, because it looks like all the fairy tailed characters has been reincarnated in to present day japan but the characteristics of the fairy tailed character are still there in away,

it was cute and looked like it was going somewhere with its story and characters but sadly it ended * read the manga to continue it *

it was good and i wished it continued and not rushed the ending. but besides that,

*it was very enjoyable,*

8/10

Sword Art Online

I went into this series blind, hoping to come away from it with a smile like so many others before me. Unfortunately, I appear to have taken a wrong turn somewhere, because what I've spent the last week watching could only be described as Troll Art Online.

While the series started off strong - I found the first episode captivating, especially some of the sly nods to MMO tropes - by the third episode cracks had started to appear. Presented with one of the most 'human' characters in the show - Sachi - we soon learn that this show cares not for character development of anyone other than the protagonist, Kirito. Indeed, anyone who isn't that sociopathic, little **** is nigh expendable. Sachi and her guildmates, along with 4000 other players are lost to this death game, but hardly a tear is shed, there are more important tasks to attend - like helping lolis.

Of course, the first half isn't all minor 'side quests', if you will. There is an actual plot buried under this ill-paced mess. Unfortunately, it ends abruptly, with multiple cases of deus ex machina wrapping it all into a nice bundle of crap. What appears to be a stand-out aspect of it amongst fans - the romance between Kirito and Asuna - is uninspired, rushed and, at times, cringe-inducing. For what it's worth, this arc had the potential to blow the second out of the water if it had been given a greater allotment of episodes - and the second arc had been dropped from the program.

The less said about the second arc the better. Having never read the LN, it appears to be little more than the author's own masturbation fantasies.

I rate Sword Art Online, 5/10.

The series is redeemed by a great soundtrack, lovely artwork, and a plethora of background characters that I adored, it's just a shame they were handled poorly (I'm looking at you, Sugou.)

Dragonball season 2 8/10

A splendid season of episodes, following Goku as he basically travels about meeting new people searching for the 4 star ball. This keeps the show pacey and enjoyable, and covers the whole of the General Blue part of the Red Ribbon Army Saga, and the very start of the General Red portion. Bulma and Krillin in also join in the fun for a run of episodes, and it's topped off with an utterly charming stopover in Penguin Village where we meet Arale-chan and all the other denizens of the crazy setting of Toriyama's "Doctor Slump" manga/anime series. My only nitpick was I'd like to have seen a little more well matched one-on-one fighting. General Blue is disposed of somewhat anti-climatically, which while setting up a stronger villan to force Goku to get stronger, any viewer of DBZ should recall what happens to the guy, so it feels a little unsatisfactory. Otherwise, great stuff.

inu x boku SS

first off the female lead in this series is adorable and the voice actress is perfect for her, she is cuuuuuutttttttteee,

the story looked liked it was going to somewhere deep but instead it ended up being a love story which was disappointing cause i wanted to see where it was going to go with it,

the characters are funny and cute
the animation is ok

i wish it went deeper in to the lead females backstory and continued

it was fun to watch at times

7.5/10

Dragonball season 3. 5/10 and 9/10

A game very much of two halves this volume. The stuff I rate 5/10 is the Fortuneteller Baba Saga and related filler. It's painfully average stuff, with huge amounts of padding, what little action there is is very drawn out. It's not a total loss, there are some very nice moments too, but the whole thing can be summed up as "meh".

Either side of that Saga is some great stuff. The end of the Red Ribbon Army Saga sees Goku taking the fight to their base and murderizing the lot of them. He was waaay more edgy as a kid that boy. The other side of the Baba Saga is the first ten episodes of the Tenshinhan/Tournament Saga, which is awesome and has some great fights in it. For that and the RR Saga stuff, I still recommend this volume.

11 eyes

really really good and underrated series, this had me at the edge of my seat untill the end kinda felt rushed,

this series has action, emotion, shocks, good cast of characters and one of the characters look like Suigintou from rozen maiden,

the series was good butthere was a few things that bugged me-

1 one of the characters was immortal and isn't explained how she got to be immortal
2 the anime ended wasn't bad but it could of been better and followed the novel ending
3 the whole thing about different worlds was really confusing and i couldn't follow
4 one of the characters said that she killed her own father and was being chased but his students, and this isnt explored enough theres at least a few other things that was explained and was rushed

but besides that this series is really good
the opening gives you a impression that something major is going to happen which it does

id give this a 10/10 if it wasn't for the unexplained stuff and rushed ending and the OVA which should of been better used to make the ending from the novel.

but instead im giving it a 8.5/10

Dragonball season 4 9/10

Superb stuff. The climax to the Tenshinhan Saga is thrilling and chilling as a much loved regular bites the dust courtesy of the minions of King Piccolo whom the next Saga deals with. This isn't the lovable grouch Piccolo from DBZ, this is his "father" and it's here the show takes a very dark turn, playing out like a DBZ Saga with lots of civilian casualties and two more major character deaths. Also,
Oh My God They Killed Shen Long!

Onwards with the Piccolo Jnr. Saga.

blue drop

you wouldn't of thought this series was a yuri series, well in a way it is and its not,

the story is average and nothing really exciting, a girl meets a alien girl and she knows something about past, yh yh iv seen this story before,

its not a bad series but its just average,

il give it a 7/10

Journey to Agartha

If nothing else, this is a joy to behold. On blu-ray the picture quality is gorgeous, with vivid colours and little details that invite further appreciative scrutiny with subsequent viewings. Sound too is crystal clear, the soundfield vast and expansive while remaining cohesive.

It’s the story, however, that took some getting used to. My initial impression was that Makoto Shinkai started believing the hype that he was the next Hayao Miyazaki, and as a result branched into the realm of the epic folk tale featuring many morally ambiguous characters in what would be a vanity project. To his credit, he pulled it off; my viewing experience was a compelling one. Animation was fluid; character development was first rate realistic. Credit is also due to the scope and the imagination on display in the world of Agartha, which benefits to no end from the HD treatment. Most importantly, instead of seeing the work of someone showing off, I witnessed just what is possible when a craftsman fully believes in the power of the animation platform.

So to conclude, I don’t think this is Makoto Sinai’s magnum opus – that would be Five Centimetres per Second – but it does represent an impressive notch for him. A bittersweet 8/10 it is.

Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

It was the cover that made me buy this title. That’s right, for all the airs that I put on suggesting that I my anime purchases are the product of much research and deliberation, sometimes I will nab a title blind for as superficial a reason as an appealing blu-ray cover. Bad case scenario would be me getting burned by the likes of Tekken or Tokko, mourning the funds that could have been better spent. Best case scenario would include titles like Brave Story or Welcome to the Space Show.

And now this.

I tried - I really, really tried - to think of something critical to say about Anohana. And the best criticism I could marshal was that Menma was initially very annoying. And even that didn’t last long; in fact, by the end of the first episode she had become a most endearing character.

In addition all the characters are believable as and handle the situations realistically (though the cross-dressing may be pushing it). The pacing of the story is perfect – not “good”, but “perfect”. It runs exactly as long as it needs to for its eleven episodes without filler segments. The story is intriguing, the build-up is beautifully sustained, and the pay-off is a rewarding catharsis of long-repressed emotions finally coming to light. Yet for all the emotions at work here, Anohana avoids maudlin sentimentality and instead handles its themes with a discreet touch. There’s no blatant tugging at the heartstrings here, no matter how sad the situation.

Add to all of this more than competent animation and music which serve to sweeten the deal considerably. The music especially fits in well with the show’s understated handling of the subject matter; it’s there, but mostly in the background as a complement to the events instead of an obvious announcement of them.

So there you have it. I took a chance on this based on the cover. I consider it money well spent. Saying that, I’ve no choice – and even fewer reservations – in giving it 10/10.

aria the scarlet ammo

ok at first i thought i was going to like this, and i do i like it a lot, i like how its layed out for its action, story, and characters, however -

i have to take away points for its hearm, i hate it when they do this in anime, they have loads of girls for we the audience to choose on which girl the main guy will get and to be honest this pissed me off became we all know who the main character is going to choose and its the main female character in due time * come on its so obvious * or i could be wrong.

anyways the settings in * school, who hasn't seen that* and they carry guns to learn to be mercenaries or something,
the main character has this condition that when hes blood gets pumped he turns in to a modern day superslick james bond with mad skills,
its pretty good tho,
il say this its a great setting and wouldn't mind to see a second season,

the animations good and i like the moe,

8.5/10

1 thing is bugging me tho, whats the deal with the hot springs episodeit was like it was replaced with a horror anime
