RoD The TV Vol 1
Oh I so wanted to like this but it just went a grand total of nowhere in 4 episodes, it's like we had one episode of action and the rest was focused on Silly FruFru bullcrap that only succeeded in making me as aggravated as Nenene was at the Paper Sisters who were near Universally (there's not enough Maggie there to fit in a matchbox, nevermind pass comment on her actions) horrid people who have the feeling of the Bebop crew without the heart of the Bebop crew. Honestly if they had dropped pretence and had put Anita in the school episode 2 or 3 we might have gotten somewhere but no.

As it is, I have places to go, people to see and Jams to Slam.
In the OVA we had clones of classic littarary heroes funking stuff up within 20 minutes of action. Just a little bit of up and atom is all I'm asking here.

Rental Rating : Not Continuing.

I watched 1 ep about a month or 2 ago and I put it back on my shelf, haven't wanted to go back to it since. After reading this I think I'll put in my to sell pile.

You might want to if this is any indication of it's quality.

It's just such a jarring shift from Yoko fighting clones of Son Woukong within minutes of the go sign (the names might be wrong, it might have been Ben Franklen).

I'll tell you this now, if ep 3 was the school and the assassin girl then I'd be invested but by end of play ep 4 it's too late.

To further your book analogy, those 90 pages need to be as interesting as the rest. An airy start is not excused by a solid ending as is the instance, potentially, of ROD TV.

Angel Beats! - 7/10
As much as I love the show itself, it could not do everything well in a short episode span. The ending was emotional and heartbreaking but it did not make any sense in terms of what happened with the flashback and the first episode. There was too many random cliffhangers which wasn't much of a big deal. To sum up how I felt about this show, it was basically taking all 47 episodes of Clannad and butchering it into a 13 episode series. A remake would be nice but that's not going to happen with Angel Beats. Best parts of the show include the infamous hammer, infamous Guild scenes (the traps and the next time they went down there midway into the show) and the epic Brave Song moments with the propelled rockets. Oh, and TK for the TK fans.

I would also give the OVA: Stairway to Heaven a 6/10 for being irrelevant to the plot but as a fun hilarious episode. "ITS SO CUTE!!!!!"

Baka & Test: Summon the Beasts (Season 1) - 8/10
My first import from UP1 was well worth the purchase, this show is just your typical comedy featuring idiots and fanservice. The fanservice shown in this show is well done considering it takes the mick out of it by making Hideyoshi get the exposure compared to Himeji and other characters though the nosebleed were a bit unrealistic considering anime isn't real. I do honestly like this show and I will pick up Season 2 and the OVA Collection at some point in the future. Best parts of the show include dragging students who have 0 health to their doom, the Evangelion spoof episode and the last few episodes.

The ONA: Christmas Footage is an average 6/10 as it was just a promo that was aired before the show began.

The World God Only Knows S1

6/10

Not quite as funny as I remember it, though, there are some laugh out loud moments like when Elsie casually announces herself as the illegitimate daughter or her strange obsession with fire engines.

Having 2 parters for most of the girls helped with pacing and meant things never felt too rushed, however, I think the Shiori episodes stretched over 3 was ridiculous and there was no need for it resulting in some atrocious padding (that "books are..." scene seemed to go on for bloody ever!) Favourite episode was probably either the last one, the God of Conquest mode true form stuff was hilarious. Enjoyed the "bug" episode too.

I went with the dub which was decent, with Luci Christian lending her incredibly cute talents to Elsie, but think I might switch to sub for S2.

Slayers Vol 2/5
So, here I was ready to soak myself in pure 90's anime nonsense when after episode three the disc gave out. After seeing the underside of the disk, I realised why, the daft bastard before me had done something to do the disk, there's indents on the damn thing!
I Mean, I liked the two episodes I've watched (the two I've watched elsewhere) and I love Lina as such an opposite to the typical anime heroine (and, sidebar, if Moe was being Lina then there'd be nothing wrong with this industry, maybe) and Gourry is a lovable dolt (and is voiced by Eric Stuart for added funny) but I just have nothing to go on, here! Darnitall!

Rental Rating: Not Rated, Gonna have to wait for a resend if that happens.

I've got Code Geass S1 from LoveFilm and the 2nd Blu-ray Disc has a massive scratch down it. It gets worse as it goes into the middle of the disc so no doubt i'll get near the latter eps and it will stop working. I really wish people would look after the discs

Lunar Legend Tsukihime

I can't say I really liked or disliked this show, I found it just ok. I liked the pacing of the first episodes and most of the dialogues by Arcueid. In the last episodes the pace changed quite dramatically, something like the writers went "OMG we are near the end, now we must find someway to end all this". I would prefer a more cohesive storytelling.

Score: 6.5 / 10

Giant Robo: Gin-Rei special

Ep. 1: lol
Ep. 2: rotfl
Ep. 3: meh

Score: 7 / 10

I was just like this with Tsukhime the first time I watched it. I thought it was pretty meh. Then six months later I watched it again, and I liked it a bit more. I watched it again a year later and I was really into it. Two years on again and I love the show. It is one of the few anime that grew on me with repeated exposure. I think it's the adult take on the characterisations, the atmosphere and the style. It just stands out to me. I'd suggest giving it another try once it's faded from memory.

These guys made Tekkaman Blade and Samurai Pizza Cats, right? So 'the hell they doing making this pap? It's not like they can hide behind Noitamana like they did [c].

A completely incoherent mess that seems to be utterly ashamed of it's Ninja Science Background, I physically fear for when they get the itch to remake Tekkaman or SPC again.

&$"* out of 10.

Only skimmed over the episode thus far, but yeah... First impressions are not great. Feels like it's trying too hard to be clever about reinventing the franchise (says he who has never seen a single episode of Gatchaman prior to this).

Me neither but I suppose I just couldn't tell because it was that much of a visual and storytelling flustercuck.

I mean at least Cashern Sins, dreary and repetitive as that show was (did you know the robots wanted to kill and consume Cashern?) , was at least consistent with it's source material, told a new story with it's players and showed Tatsunoko's want to have insane strokes of genius getting the guy who did the character designs in Doremi to do the character designs in Sins.

CROWDS, on the other hand, comes off as Tatsunoko, still angry that no one got or liked their grand vision of Money being the satan, school children being casually murdered (as heavy handed metaphor for money being the satan) and the ultimate goal is to screw your pokemon who might be your future-maybe-daughter (because Money is, say it with me kids, the satan) that they called [c] whilst missing the fact that it was hated with good reason, it was God-freaking-awful.

Angry at the plebs who just couldn't get their vision of Art, they went on a complete wobbly trying to shoehorn in another regressionist statement; "Smartphones and their impact on society is the Satan. Notebooks are The Jesus", and take a few orange-socks to the face of one of it's most well known franchise as some sort of revenge grudge-fudge public wrist slitting ritual that, sadly, will probably get the same "IT ART THEREFORE IMMUNE TO CRITICISM" response from the hyper retentive arthouse so and sos (read; Zac Berchy) who thought Flowers of Evil was to be defended because it used Rotoscoping in lieu of telling it's story properly.

God help us, and them, once I'm done with them, if they do this to SPC or Tekkaman Blade

What's with the lack of love for Gatchaman Crowds ep1? ;_;

I thought it was marvellously entertaining (it's way too early for me to rate it, though). I have seen Gatchaman, and Crowds seemed to capture the exciting undercurrent of forming a team that was in that kind of show, marrying it with Tiger & Bunny-style powersuits and crazy, colourful art. And at the same time, it felt fresh instead of riding on the success of the original. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the main character's uh, excessive perkiness, though a few episodes in the team should help with that.

I can see why individuals might not like it but the show seems far from outright awful.

The naive, quasi-retro aesthetic was kind of interesting, but I found both the girl and blonde guy annoying. When I got to the 'power unlocking' scene, I just gave up.

Project A-ko
9/10
WOW! I was totally blown away by this! I didn't expect this to be THIS good!

The first thing that needs to be said is the animation. For 1986, It is F*****G AMAZING! The colours are vibrant, the movement is fluid and The fight scenes were fast and intense! The animation here is 10X better than animation you see in anime today!

The fight scenes were also great! The fight between A-ko and B-Ko was fantastic and was surprisingly long. And there were even more action after that! GREAT STUFF!

This anime gave me a huge nostalgia rush, as it reminded me of all the old action packed 90s animes i used to rent from my local blockbuster many years ago. There's just something about 90s anime has compared to animes today. They had alot more character back then, and weren't afraid to go over the top! I also liked the Fist Of The North Star reference near the beginning with the huge muscly girl!

Although i will admit this probably would be better if it was a series. Maybe it will get the same treatment Birdy The Mighty

Overall, A fantastic anime movie that shows the Old animes are still epic today! Check it out!

Save me lollipop
