Gundam 0083 the after glow of zeon

Ok I really like this movie, I'm not 100% sure if it's a recap or a movie after the series but I'l say this it is awesome the animation * altho it's old* it looks smashing, and I saw a few mobile suits in the movie that came from a game I played years ago and it's possible the game derived from the series,

It was a lil hard to follow but I think if I watch the series to this movie I think I can understand it better.

I'l say this it's the best gundam iv seen in animation wise and the characters design looks good but at the same time * I can't think of a word for it*
What I liked about near the end is that when we see the main character facing his rival face to face he intends to kill him but is surprised by the fact the woman he is seeing is helping his rival which he dosent understand why, usually in some anime the main character will be like fine what ever let's go but with the main character in this movie he feels betrayed and doesn't understand why she's helping him and I found his emotions on what was happening was really well done.
I really liked it

Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike

A pretty impressive fun movie
I'm not a big fan of Production I.G. but i will admit they did a fantastic job on the animation and style here. Everything was nice and colourful and the animation itself was very good! I also liked the whole fantasy feel to it. I don't usually like fantasy themes, but this pulled it off very well! I watched this on Blu-ray and it looks BEAUTIFUL!!!

The story and action scenes were also well done as it was engaging and suspenseful. The fight scene with the dogs was great as it was somewhat unexpected. The characters were also nice. Seeing 2 polar opposites interact with each other was fun to watch, reminded me slightly of Guts and Griffth.

Although it isn't perfect. The CGI is pretty poor and moves really stiffly. especially for the giant stone golem. Should of just been hand drawn. Also this felt like it would have been better as a series as it tries to fit too much into an hour and a half. With a series, you could have a better story, a little more character development and a better final battle scene. It does fit all that in the movie, but it seems a little forced. Lastly it isnt the most original film. Its been done before.

Overall, Tales of Vesperia is a decent movie which is worth a watch.

Gunbuster

This is an old one, dating back to 1988. As such it is bound to be overlooked by the majority of modern anime fans looking forward to the latest, seemingly more technically proficient titles. And that's a pity, because they'll be missing out on a classic.

You see, by watching this you are witnessing the birth of an anime archetype: the plucky, sweet and innocent young herione who vows to do her best despite overwhelming odds. This is where it began. Subsequent takes on this anime trope have have ranged from the successful (most notably in Cardcaptor Sakura and Angelic Layer), but mostly they have erred towards the sentimental and lately, the moe. Here we see the original recipe, with the right mixture of guts, emotion and vulnerability combining to make Noriko Takaya a most likable saviour of earth.

The story is a simple one: humans are under attack from an alien race and someone has to fight back. It is told from the perspective of Noriko as it charts her growth from an insecure cadet to ultimately a capable fighter willing to sacrifice herself for the survival of Earth. There are victories and there are setbacks along the way, but the writing doesn't allow her to go too emotionally overboard in either case. It's just perfect.

You'd think that since this is a 1988 vintage the animation is subpar. Think again. There's nothing in the line of CG; everything is hand drawn. There are lots of animation frames however, enough to put to shame any number of modern productions. One need only look at a scene right at the start of Noriko skipping for that to be made apparent. The detail with which she is shown ending her skipping routine was enough for me to rewind and watch the sequence multiple times. And though the chunky 80's-influenced mech designs are nowhere as detailed as their modern counterparts, the space battles are superbly handled, particularly the explosions.

But the best part is that this is a Gainax production, produced at a time when Gainax was an brash upstart wanting badly to prove itself and how it stood out from the other animation houses. That can be seen in the final episode, which in and of itself is one giant WTF moment in the same vein as the final episodes of Evangelion.

The downside is that this bit of classic anime has now become very pricey, given that it is now out of print and that sellers are all too aware of its classic status. Even when it was in print, I still had to pay a small fortune for it. And for what it gave me in return, I have no regrets.

@Yakumo

I enjoy classics so I will watch it later on.

New people to anime/Young people dont look much behind as they are growing in a different era and between a lot of reasons, one of them is that they cant feel anything regarding something old even if its good. There might be a few shows that they might take a look but not that much, at least from the 90's backward. They will end up always from 2000 forward and even 2000 is old already these days. Im was born in the early 80's and despite not having anime in my life in the first, lets say, 8 to 10 years of life, i do like to watch old stuff from time to time. Makes me see what was good or it came out at the time i was little or not even born lol It just makes me curious. But even for me, sometimes i think its not that easy to watch old stuff since Im used already to the animation technology nowadays. But maybe thats why sometimes i enjoy old school even more because of the big difference. It just has his moments, sometimes i can watch, sometimes i just cant.

A good number of years ago, I shelled out for the VHS box-set of Gunbuster and I really didn't like it. Whatever I was expecting, the show just wasn't delivering it. Now though, I'm starting to think that maybe I was just too young at the time to appreciate the extreme tragi-comic vibe, married to what is ultimately quite a simple and familiar story.

Every time the issue of why newer fans don't or won't watch older shows comes up, I tend to chalk it up to people having only seen a few recent things, and not yet being able to accept older art styles, but I guess maybe the changing demographic plays a part too. I think most people would agree that anime fans today are generally younger than they were even ten years ago - perhaps there's just something inherent in the storytelling for many older shows that only appeals to an older audience.

I agree with everything you wrote except this one. That theme was already used in Ace wo Nerae, a 70's anime. Gunbuster started as a parody of that series, then turned to different shores. Gainax took various inspirations from previous anime, another example is that Jung is the sister of Haman from Gundam.
If I'm right this not the first time that bouncing boobs appeared in an anime, too, Gainax used it in a previous short.
I would dare to say that Noriko's voice acting is the best performance in the history of anime.

I think the problem is that the newer fans can't see the older shows in their proper context. These were products of their time, and as such were influenced by the prevailing social attitudes and current events. The new generation of anime fans were not a part of those times, and so may not immediately be able to identify with them, if at all.

Cooking Master Boy-A excellent little adventure cooking anime,it follows the adventures of Liu Mao Hsing and his buddies as he travels across china to one day surpass his late mother and become head chef of her restaurant, first he must prove his skills as he faces deadly challenges and meets other cooking rivals some friends some are foe,the story deepens later on in the series when Mao discovers there is a evil society called The Underground Cooking Society, who are top chefs who are using there skill for the forces of evil, yeah its all a bit silly and when two chefs are challenging each other it can get very OTT but that is what the show does so well it takes the process of cooking and makes it exciting and turns it into the biggest spectacle ever. The only downside about the series is like most anime series they finish and the manga continues and this finished when the story was getting really interesting,Mao and his friends discover there are legendary eight cooking utensils hidden through out china and that is when the adventure truly begins, sadly not for fans of the anime and the last four episodes are total filler and never appeared in the original manga, but all that aside what was animated done the original manga proud and was a excellent watch which i really enjoyed,a really fun series which really does say what it says on the tin, even at 52 episodes it never dragged and i was gripped the whole way through,as i said the only downside is those last four episodes but hey its a minor gripe.8/10.

Gundam F91

The first 15 minutes was like watching one of those films from a civilian point of view when there's a war going on in there town with the mobile suits fighting each other. I felt a lil scared for the people in the cross fire in that part.

The animation and story isn't bad but the main character is something iv seen In different anime the main lead get roped in to it and he has to fight,

The gundam series are starting to grow on me

7.5/10

Moonlight Mile

The main character in Moonlight Milf is Golgo Saruwatari. Uhm, cough, I made a couple of mistakes...
The main character in Moonlight Mile is Gorou Saruwatari, a Japanese construction worker that dreams to become an astronaut. So he uses everything in his power to go in space. In the meantime he also nails as much girls as he can.
I've always liked science fiction, especially the realistic vein, so it was easy to like Moonlight Mile. There are various things I think could have been balanced better, for example most of the sex scenes are out of context. But overall it's a really nice show, if you liked Planetes then you can go safe with this one too.
Too bad the second season was not released on DVD.

Score: 8 / 10

Shakugan no Shana S

This is not the Shakugan no Shana team operating at full strength, more like them doing a few pre-season friendly matches. Two of the OVA episodes take place, I’d imagine, between Seasons 1 and 2, since Keisaku and Eita are still hanging around together. These two episodes don’t advance the overall narrative, but they do offer a more light-hearted diversion with some unexpected insights. Just how deep, for example, is the bond between Yuji and Shana? Does Wilhelmina still think that Yuji must die? And is there hope that Ike will finally get a break in Season 3?

The third and fourth episodes form two parts of a story set before Season 1. As such they focus on the cold, clinical Shana as she was before she met Yuji. This standalone adventure pits her against the machinations of a minor demon, only to be hindered by external romantic and familial complications. Really though, the story here has more to do with Shana — or at least the character who would eventually be named Shana —and her past perceptions of humans and their relationships.

From a technical standpoint, I don’t have much over which to complain. Animation is decent enough, music is stellar as always. The English VA’s are up to the task, though I still wish Funimation could have roped in Tabitha St Germain to reprise her role of Shana. Her Season 1 rendition outstripped even Rie Kugimiya’s, she was that good. Also, Clarine Harp still hasn’t nailed the role of Tiamat.

Ultimately though, my main criticism was that as I was watching these I couldn’t shake off the feeling that the creators were stalling for time. It all felt a little….pointless. For that alone it deserves 6 / 10.

Two things however. Firstly, you are shown a teaser for Season 3, sure to whet the appetite. Secondly, Mami Kawada’s “Portamento” is the single best song in the entire Shakugan no Shana canon and it totally lifts the scene which it accompanies.

So Shakugan no Shana S gets 7.5 / 10.

Mad Bull 34-A personal fave of mine way back in the old VHS days,a true classic for all the wrong reasons,it really is that bad its good,i finally got the dvd and got the chance to see it in japanese with subs finally, the english dub still rocks and is such a laugh, its one of those ova,s that was screaming out for a tv series but what we get here is a crude, violent and lets face it hilarious cult classic and John "Sleepy" Estes is a awesome main character, reminds me of Mike Haggar from the Final Fight video games lol,so yeah some people will think this is the biggest pile of poo ever but get some friends over get drunk and sit back enjoy,8/10.

Blood: The last vampire

VERY poor and overrated movie! Where do i even begin with this!?!

Well first of all it is WAAAAY too short for me to give a crap about any of the characters and the plot. Everything just happened way too fast! Also i didn't like how one minute they would speak Japanese then English.

The animation itself wasn't all that impressive. I will admit some of the backgrounds were nicely done, but apart from that the animation was nothing special at all. Maybe it was good for its time, but it didn't amaze me all that much.

To think this was so popular that it spawned twp anime series (Blood+ and Blood-C) and a live action movie! What exactly am i missing here? Why do people love this so much? I just couldn't get into it! The characters were boring and had no development, the overall length is amazingly short, The plot isn't all that interesting, and the animation is decent at best!

Overall, Don't watch!

Ooohhh, I disagree. I think people don't like that's its short and there's very little time for character development but I just took it for what it was. Violent action and Vampires. Of course your entitled to your own opinion and I Totally respect it but Don't Watch seems a bit harsh, it's quite a fave of mine :D

Mad Bull 34
I got my copy yesterday. If anything can get me back watching anime, it's Sleepy and his "unique" approach to policing. I've never actually watched beyond the first episode so I'm rather excited to finally have this show on DVD.

Incidentally, I noticed that the first episode is called "Hit and Rape". That says it all about how classy Mad Bull 34 is. Even Manga, them wot released Urotsukidoji, didn't have the balls to put the first tape out with that title, instead renaming it "Scandal". They really don't make 'em like this any more (which, depending on perspective, may or may not be a good thing).

As much as I think Blood is another one of those things that might be more beloved by people who aren't strictly anime fans, I thought it was a neat little short as well. From what I remember, the action seemed well directed, and it wrapped things up quite nicely within its brief running time.

The switching between Japanese and English might be a bit jarring, but I did think it made sense, given that it's set mainly around an American air base in Japan.

DBZ Kai 10/10
I didn't even expect to like it that much when I started watching it on Kix but 4 Seasons on Blu-ray later, I have to say that's the most entertaining show I've seen. Brilliant characters, brilliant action and some unexpected twists and turns.

I never thought I'd get through any show that had 98 eps but now I'm about to go and watch the rest of Dragon Ball (already watched first 57 eps), then DBZ (original), followed by DBZ GT. bring it on.
