I'm not saying you're wrong to dislike it as that's your opinion, but just as a note the English is meant to be a riff on the actual Date Masamune's marked interest in foreigners, which was relatively controversial at the time and is something he's still famous for in Japan today (Yukimura speaks in an almost parodic formal samurai speech pattern as a contrast, whereas Kojuurou and Sasuke bring in other modern day elements such as yakuza stylings and army camouflage). Capcom deliberately made it ridiculous because everything in the entire series is meant to be flashy and over the top, from the costumes to the attacks to the horseriding; it would have been lame if the main character's interest in foreign powers wasn't made similarly spectacular in the process.

It's not a series that should be taken at all seriously. Also I'm in love with Nakai Kazuya's voice /bias >_>

I think I understand where you are coming from. I know that it is not meant to be taken seriously, but to me it does come across as a bit annoying. The problem is that Date's interest in foreigners, and I believe his interest other aspects of foreign culture such as Christianity, doesn't really come across. There's no mention of it, just Date seemingly throwing in random English phrases. Maybe if a great guide to the historical context to the series was given it might have helped - not necessary within the show itself, but perhaps as some historical notes given as a DVD extra (something which Hetalia does).

Yeah, of course the Japanese viewers don't need this information as it's freely available, but some liner notes for the English adaptation might have been useful to make sense of some of the gags. I get frustrated as it seems to get a lot of bad reviews everywhere for reasons which aren't always fair, but it does make sense if it's losing something in translation :(

Maybe I should give it another look at another time. I would say that this is where Sengoku Basara has a disadvantage to Hetalia, in the sense that Hetalia covers historical events that we in the west are familar with (e.g. World War II), whereas most people, me included, have little idea about 16th-17th century Japan. Mind you I'm currently reading a book about the history of Japan at the moment, so after I've finished doing so then I'll probably watch the series again.

A little knowledge on the Sengoku period makes Sengoku Basara way more interesting. Catching the "gozaru" thrown here and there or the "it rocks" is also part of the fun in the series. There is a lot in the subtleness of language in the series, as Rui notes that definitely gets lost in the translation. I admit not getting a lot of it actually.

There's a funny quote from Wakamoto Norio, which is in the English version of the Sengoku Basara 3 artbook (Wakamoto surely needs no introduction - he's Oda Nobunaga's famous deep-voiced seiyuu). In Sengoku Basara, Nobunaga has a habit of referencing poetic material in his dialogue such as the famous Atsumori. This makes a lot of Nobunaga's lines quite difficult to understand when taken completely literally. I'm recalling from memory but Wakamoto simply says something like "Don't worry too much about what he's actually saying, just let the atmosphere of his words sink in and try to understand the meaning that way".

The complicated Christianity situation in medieval Japan does come up in the games. Sadly, that aspect was removed from the anime storyline to keep the story tight. They need another series or ten :D

It's a shame there were no liner notes produced! Hetalia had to have a lot of bonus content since it had such a short runtime that Funi wanted to pad the release out, but most of their shows are absolutely barebones these days aside from a cardboard box or sleeve.

Maybe if they spread the release of Sengoku Basra over 3 discs instead of 2 it would have been better, then they could have used the free space for extras like liner notes.

And make the release more expensive and prone to fail. Actually, now that you brought this subject on, I'm wondering how the did this release faired....

The fans of the series I know, don't seem to care for any of the problems you've mentioned Ian.

Right............... Back to he subject

Full metal panic

Ok this sounds ridiculous
A 16 year old soldier that takes pride in his work has to follow around a 16 year old school girl because she has some special ability to know what black technology is and how to use it and agroup of terrorists wants her to use that technology. Anyway the soldier gose to her school to protect her * yeah sounds like it's going to be a load of laughs* which in turn it has its moments of funnys.

The robots and action is awesome. I really do like the army feel in this series too.

The one thing I didn't like was the love triangle in this series between two tesa and kename I just didn't see any point in it cause as we all know in nearly every anime the to main couple always end up with each other I haven't seen this in the series yet but we all know it's coming

The other thing is in all 3 series of full metal panic we don't get to see more on the black technology power thats in kename we do a lil bit but all it is is he gose on missions and school and the main charecters flirt with each other, well tease we the audience.

Fumoffu

In this series it's comedy plain and simple which is great cause as a fan of comedy I was happy to watch it, the last ep was soooo funny don't get me wrong the other eps was funny to but the last was SOOO good it doesn't have any story connection between the the first series and third, this series is just comedy.

Full metal panic the second raid

Ummm well have a look and you'll see

We,re introduced to new charecters and old ones and the series would end when we see a charecter that has a connection to our main charecters.

These 3 are good and the animtion get better and better and the story isn't bad either and the robots and action is great the romance kinda got in the way for me but that's my personal preference cause I'm not one for romance and love triangles.....but I guess there ok

The other this that really annoys me is Manama she really annoys me really bad is just don't like her personality

Despite that the series is really good and I hope they make a new addition to the anime series

Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit

Quite simply, one of the finest shows I have had the pleasure to watch. A joy from beginning to end. Excellent pacing, plot structure, characters and score. I didn't think i'd like it going in to it, but once it got going, I really could not stop/

Detroit Metal City - got it at MCM Expo and it's superb. It looks rubbish, but sounds very good.
I laughed so hard, my jaw was hurting after watching it.

Trigun Badlands Rumble

I was pleasently surprised. This was alot better than i expected!

First off the characters. They are all pretty much likeable (Apart from the insurence ladies. Didnt like them in the show eaither). I thought Amelia was a great character who i thought was one of the more relatable and realistic characters in the Trigun franchise. I thought she had one of the best backstorys also. gasback was also pretty cool. His metal arm was awesome. Vash the stampede, Obviously, steals the show! WHat isnt there to like about him? He makes you burst out laughing one moment and is a complete badarse the next!

I also LOVED the character designs! They were really destinctive looking compared to other character designs. I could be wrong but isnt the character desings similar in Ninja Scroll the series?

It also looks great visually, plus the animation was great. Even the CGI parts were good. The action scenes were also well done.

The only bad things i can say about the movie is that, Overall, it just feels like a long episode that doesnt really bring anything new. Plus the story is a little simple. But then again i like things like Ninja Scroll the series lol, so thats only a miner complaint. It kinda makes you wanting more afterwards.

Overall, a really fun movie! A must for Trigun fans! Even if you thought the series was so-so, there might just be something here for you. Check it out.

Still need to pick up Badlands Rumble. I really regret not going to see it at SLA a couple of years back...

Anyway, I think I'm the first person to review this on youtube - yay?

Blue Seed - the complete series for cheap at a con and watched it over yesterday and today, while working.

6/10 - it's dated, looks bad, story is the usual apocalypse story with a human sacrifice....

Chaos;Head

Not bad, nothing special either. I didn't know much about the show, and blind bought on the premise of an otaku being a suspect in a bunch of weird murders. Didn't expect so much harem-like antics.

When it played the mystery, intrigue and philosophical card, it played them well, but it wasn't done enough, plus it just wen a bit too bat **** with me in terms the story in the latter half, the opening 4 episodes were great and had me hooked, but it went down hill from there tbh.

Decent premise, poor execution.

The bubble gum crisis series

AD police files 1-3

I watched this when it was on sci-fi and when I watched it again It brought back memory's and It kinda Holds up and it doesn't, like it doesn't seem as good, maybe it's because iv been watching new anime, still it's ok I love the cyber punkness it has.

The animations aged but it's ok
The story's felt like it didn't have alot of story if you know what I mean.
The characters are forgetable
The violence is awesome

7/10

Bubble gum crisis/crash

OMG this was awesome I just loved it the music was SOOO 80s but that's what I loved the animations a lil aged but it's still awesome to watch. the action scenes was really freaking awesome. There's a lil bit of a connection to each episode ( well there is a connection)

Sylia is my fav character compared to her counter part in 2040 but we,ll get to that later
Nene has a sort of magic girl feel to her
Lila Feels like she's just there to be the 4th member but she does get a ep but I didn't really notice her
Priss is a lil bit of a bitchy attitude and she is my second fav and 3rd is nene

Like AD police I watched this when it was on sci-fi but there was one ep I didn't finish but I finally did ( it really ticked me off that I didn't finish it when it was on sci-fi but I'm glad I did

The animations aged a lil but is still enjoyable to watch
The music is fantastic but the one that sticks out is *hurricane* look it up it's awesome
The characters are likeable
I just loved it both crisis and crash is a awesome anime and is well worth it

9.5/10

Parasite dolls

3 story's that connect each other but it's like the AD police but with more updated animation which is nice and even more violent but its not interesting cause how short it is and lil we know about characters

6.5/10

Bubble gum crisis 2040

Ok this series isn't as bad ass as it's counter part but it has it's own unique settings from the 2032 version

Syila is really annoying to her counter part in 2032 she's all obsessed about killing boomers and is determined to make sure it happens, I liked her in 2032 she was calm and smart and didn't let anything get to her. In 2040 she acts like those people that has bi-poler she's nice one sec and the next she's all obsessed ( her hair is white in 2040

Priss is likeable just like her counter part in 2032 a bit bitchy but likeable

Nene is blonde in this and is even more of a hacker then in 2032

Linna has a bit more of a back story since she had so lil in the 2032

The animtions isn't bad
The music has a metal sort of sound instead Of the 80s sound
The story well has even more of a story
There's more character development

It's ok but the ending really pisses me off cause it............well it's not a bad bad ending but it feels like a cliff-hanger

I'm a fan of the bubble gum crisis series and the 2032 is fantastic and the 2040 is good to watch too.
There both have there good and bad points but I think I like the 2032 more but 2040 is still good

8/10

There's a 12 ep anime about the AD police but I don't know where to find it. I'd like it for my collection tho

HAIL to cyber punk baby

Sengoku Basara season 2
7/10
Mindless fighting madness. Pretty much sums up the whole series.

Its pretty much similar to the first season. Lots of fighting, great animation, simple plot and huge explosions. Althought to be honest, i thought the first season was better. It followed a more simple narrative path. Whereas with this season i forgot why some people were doing what and why some people were doing this that and the other. I also dont like the characters much. Yukimora sucks a** and masamune is pretty boring. Even though they were in the series breifly
Ieyasu Tokugawa and ishida mitsunari should of had ALOT more scenes as they are 2 of my favourite characters in the game. But then again i suppose thats what the movie is for.

All in all, a stupid but fun series. Just make sure to switch your brain off before you watch this.
