Just watched Gyo. 6/10 for me I think. Just felt so hacked together and incomplete. Couldn't decide whether it wanted to be a drama or a horror flick either and kinda ends up failing on both counts. Some cool moments and some that just make no sense (what the hell was with the circus bit near the end? And the professor guy flying after he got infected? What was with the fish the girl binned at the beginning being over Tokyo later? Seemed like it was trying to say she spread the disease but then other information you get totally conflicts...). At least the CG type bits didn't clash as badly as I thought they would.
I'd say it's worth a watch but not sure I'll be watching it again.

yeah theres a few other things that dont make sense too, i enjoyed it

Yeah I think could spend all day sayign what didn't make sense and highlighting unanswered questions and plot holes. I guess plot and explanation wasn't really what it was going for.

At least I feel slightly less gutted for missing this at teh Terracotta festival now.

dragonaut the resonance

its a ok series but iv seen this sort of anime before
friends become arch rivals, creatures become friends with there human partners, secret organisations using creatures to use as weapons ect ect ect

the CGI is good and the animations not bad

the main characters abit of a cardboard cut out

the storys good but theres so many cheesy moments e.g.love conquers all

the last ep has nothing to do with the series so that was a waste of time.

its ok it has its flaws but it has its upsides to

7/10

PlanZet
Bleh. Terrible. It looked amazing, but the acting and characters just didn't make any sense at all and just seemed randon.
4/10 from me.
Dragonball z

More Natsuyuki Rendezvous discussion...

I don't think he was being entirely serious with the marriage remark, and indeed IIRC in the wedding photo at the end his hair was long again, so presumably some time passed before their relationship progressed to that level. With the date (if I'm thinking of the right moment, it's been a while), he wasn't distraught about missing out on sex, but because he'd blown it and made her think he was going to be resentful of her baggage with Shimao if they had a relationship. That moment could easily have soured their relationship forever and forced him to leave the shop. I don't think someone who quietly yearns for someone for so long is going to make such a big deal about having to take a relationship slowly after he'd made a show of not minding that her circumstances were complicated.

The bones and licking were intimacy-related and again, not to be taken completely literally as weird kinky power play (though I'd have nothing against someone I loved licking a wound of mine!). I asked my husband for a second opinion, and he said he wound interpret the act as a blend of possessive instinct and a desire to comfort Rokka. The bones were acknowledged as being a squicky issue even by the characters themselves. Aside from the very blatant references to the fairy tale and Shimao's social awkwardness, I believe that asking Rokka to eat them represented Shimao's desire to be part of her life forever, and Hazuki was saying it wasn't a burden she had to carry alone; he'd share that part of her with her dead husband. A relationship isn't always just between two people when there's a past. This kind of blunt expression of very primal impulses is quite common in stories for older women.

It may be that due to male-dominated media you aren't used to interpreting things expressed in this more feminine way? If so, I think it's a good thing that anime like Natsuyuki Rendezvous is getting a chance to be seen by more people and stimulate debates, even if it's losing something in translation for a lot of viewers.

In regards to the first paragraph It came across differently to me, mainly because despite acting like a bit of a fruitcake, he quite clearly hadn't entirely blown it, Rokka was still in relatively good spirits and invited him back to the shop afterwards. It wasn't so much the sex but it seemed to me like he wanted Rokka to fall head over heels in love him almost instantly. That's why when at the end when he suggested getting married straight away, I took it literally as it seemed consistent with his earlier behaviour. That and the fact that both characters were seemingly quite straight faced about the proposal

In regards to everything else, what your saying does make some sense to me. But I guess I'm just too much of a blunt instrument and I don't seem to enjoy interpreting abstract displayals of charged emotion, or at least in this case anyway. Maybe I have been too conditioned by male dominated media, but surely there are a fair number of females out there who also had similar issues as me with this.

Dead Space Downfall
8/10
I was actually really surprised! This was a pretty good animated film!

You dont need much knowledge of the first Dead Space game as this a prequel, so anyone can go in.

The characters were all pretty likeable and it contains alot of violence which was awesome. The story of the Ishimura was also pretty interesting. Also it was actually pretty creepy, which i don't usually find scary animated horror films to do so well.

The only bad this to say about this is that the animation could of been a bit better. It wasnt terrible, but some shots of the characters were kinda off.

Also i watch this on Blu-ray and it looks pretty decent.

Overall, A fun gore-fest that doesnt require you to know much about the first game. Give it a go!

Banner of the Stars II

Usually I'm sucker about space opera, but this whole "of the stars" universe did not grab me. This third series is a step down after the first two, less space and more conspirations. Characters are flatter than before, arcs are less involving... just an average watch for my tastes.
Now I miss the Banner of the Stars III OVA to end the story, problem is there are no official DVDs with understandable subs. But honestly I don't feel the need to try to watch it.

Score: 6 / 10

Banner of the stars III is actually good in my opinion And the animations really nice, yes I cheated and watched it on the Internet ( I couldn't help it I wanted to watch it bad I a fan of this series) but if it ever gets a release I'l buy it

Ragnarok

It's based off of a game and I expected it wouldn't be good and I was right,

The charecters are all cardboard cut outs and the plot is like everything sorts it self Out and everything fits in to place, most of the characters I really don't like and the story is weak it's like every adventure fantasy it isn't anything special, the animtion can be ok at times but it's a weak anime and like I said yes it's based on game.

Characters 4/10
Animation 6/10
Story 4/10

I'm sorry but what motivates this anime is just weak

I'm going to have to be brutal and give it a

4/10

Plus it's cheesy and corny when they meet the main boss

This show gives me a lot of Fushigi Yugi vibes.... Have you seen that? I do like the fact that has slightly darker tones for a magical girl show though.

A long time ago. I have the manga though. Now you mention it, I can see what you mean about how it's similar to Pretear, the betrayal themes especially.

Strike Witches - season 2
6/10

Take the fanservice away and probably they wouldn't have material to make a film out of it, but I like the character designs and fight scenes. So, I'll give it an average score.

The world god only knows - season 1
8/10

For something with a theme that could terribly wrong, this show is amazing. The references to dating sims, or dating sim inspired anime are a definite must, giving its theme. The less expected references are amazingly well placed and it doesn't feel overused. The GiTS reference was a specially nice surprise.

One Piece Season 3

8/10

The Sky Island Saga isn't as emotionally charged as Alabasta but it's still an excellent, action packed adventure. That's what this season has a real sense of, adventure; uncovering myths and legends, journeying to strange lands anew. When they take the knock-up stream into the sky and Merry starts flying it's just a beautiful moment, filled with childlike excitement and wonder. Even in the world of One Piece something like this was quite breathtaking.

This was Robin's first chance to really settle in with the crew and she does that just fine, proving to be extremely useful at times here. She brings a sense of grounded stability to the crew and I must admit that I ship her with Zoro because of how normal their exchanges are in comparison with the rest of the crew (but then I ship Zoro with just about every woman he comes across). There was so much foreshadowing in this season and it's making me tear up at the thought of watching it again when the dub gets onto it. Merry!. The conflict between the Skypiens and Shandorians is quite interesting and the background story of Mont Blanc and Kalgura was excellent and one of the more emotional points of the season.

I'd say though, that the plot device of chasing after gold was actually quite disappointing and honestly plain for the Straw Hats. Luffy however does give his own reasons, wanting to help salvage people's dreams, that makes it a bit more worthwhile. Eneru seems awfully confused about what he wants though. He wants to go to endless Vearth, but he wants to take the gold bell too...because it'll make him rich in an endless stretch of land where there's seemingly no-one else around? I don't know and I don't think he does really either, he just wants it because plot. First time I watched this I hadn't heard the original voices of Blackbeard and Whitebeard, knowing what they sound like now I have to say I don't like the dub of them :( . Whitebeard should have a huge, booming, powerful old voice, but Funimation just make him seem like a regular grouchy old guy rather than the giant, repsected and feared man that he is. And with Blackbeard, I'm actually fine with his overall voice, it's the fact they didn't keep his laugh that annoys me. He's supposed to go "ZEHAHAHA!" dammit  .

The G8 arc is some excellent filler just to round the season off, it fits perfectly with the tone of the series and you'd be hard pushed not to swear it could be canon. I think that's a big problem with filler in a lot of series, they don't think about making it seem it could legitemately fit into the series (without altering the actual story). They don't properly consider situations characters could get themselves involved in and how each character would react, it's generally a case of ignoring characters and instead focussing on something that just kills time regardless of how it fits. G8 provides some excellent laughs, the dials in the jail cell and the whole Con Doriano thing as well as classic stuff from Zoro and Usopp. The only annoying thing is that the dub finished this season one episode short of completing the G8 arc and then left us with a huge wait to finish it off.

Well, that wait is finally over as they finally got around to releasing season four which I shall be watching next. Interested to see how the dub handles the likes of Foxy and his laugh.

Tiger & Bunny: The begginings.

Mainly because it's shiny, it's new and has a lot less focus on the marketing than it's TV predecessor. They did need a better villain to end of the film though. It was quite anti-climatic to have that thief as the "final boss"

Resident Evil: Damnation 8/10

(Play.com posted it early)

Major improvement over the plodding and somewhat dull Degeneration. Lots of nice nods and fanservicey parts for the games' fans. THe action is really well choreographed and visually exciting.

One odd thing though is the gun porn. This film has SO MUCH attention paid to the mechanics of guns. People are constantly reloading, clicking safeties on/ off. At one point Leon is even manually putting bullets into a magazine. It’s not a bad thing, because so few action films do give a crap about endless ammo guns, but it’s just a little odd how often it crops up.

Just a spoilery comment on the ending, because I think the ending to this film is really great if you choose to interpret it that way.

I just want to say how great the ending to Damnation was and how ******* brave it is in a way. Leon and Buddy’s actions were essentially meaningless, because the mission was accomplished through external help beyond their control. The ending literally invalidates their every action throughout the film and in an action movie that is such a brave, if not revolutionary, thing to do; to just say “Yeah, nothing you did was worth a damn, we saved the day without you, no, in spite of you.”

I mean in every RE prior, the hero has won through their own actions, or escaped through their own actions, in Damnation, Leon and Buddy cannot even save themselves in the end, and are saved through a big damn heroes jet. What’s more, the big bad behind all the strife in the country is not killed, or even arrested from what we are told, they simply resign and realise they are beaten.

It’s like a deliberate subversion of action hero tropes: The hero doesn’t save the day, the damsel saves herself (which not even RE4 had happen regarding Ada), the villain gets away scott free and not even in a “I’ll get you next time, Gadget” way, they just straight up walk away.

I know it’s probably far from the first movie to do this, but the fact it happened in something as silly as Resident Evil just really surprised me in a good way. There’s more depth to the series than most give it credit for.

I'd like to hear opinions of others who have seen it to see if they agree with my view of the ending, because I think it merits discussion.

Van Helsing: The London assignment
6/10
Meh. its good for what it is, just a short action animated film that served as a cash in for the movie. Some of the CGI was pretty good and some of the action was decent, but at the same time the animation could of been a bit better as at time it looked rather awkward. Also it is FAR too short. Its decent for what it is, but could of been ALOT better.

Dead Space Aftermath
7/10
The non-linear story telling was really well done, and i liked that each story had different animation behind it and the animation as a whole was alot better than the first, But the CGI was atrocious! Plus there wasnt as much monster slaying as the first one, so it was a slight disappointment. Buy only if you are a big fan of Dead Space.

Kaze no stigma

Ok first offkazuma gets kicked out of the family cause the family uses fire magic and he cant use it and was bullied by the family kids members and is shunned but 4 years later he comes come beats the family's strongest member with wind magic * which is considered to be weak by the family* but beats the strongest family member which is he's dad and kicks the bullies ass

Kazuma is awesome he thinks things though and is level headed but ayano is soooooo freaking annoying she thinks she's always right and has a bad temper and think kazuma is useless at first when he came back. In the beginning she hated him and didn't trust him and near the end she loves him * that's just not right*

The animtions nice

The story kinds feels like buso renkin it feels like it should of had more eps. But the animes f****** has a CliffhangerWhich really pissed me off bad I really wanted to see what happens next.

The main character kazuma is awesome but ayano is just a pain in the ass

Oh but the ending .............

Still it's good

One Piece Season 4 Part 1

8/10

The Davy Back fight is just lots of fun, Foxy is a fantastically hilarious villain. I commend the dub for keeping Foxy's laugh (as well as the others here) and the sleazy, foreign accent they give him is quite fitting. Zoro getting lost during the DTD match is possibly the best Zoro gets lost gag. I think it was good the dub brought in a couple different folks for the parts this arc, Funimation always get the complaint of using the same people again and again, and certainly for One Piece it seemed like they were using the same 6 or 7 people for supporting characters. It brought a breath of freshness to the dubbing of the series.

One disappointment is that Funimation seemed to have been told to stop dubbing the openings/endings by Toei. I always thought that they did a bang up job of dubbing them and I actually preferred a couple of the dub OPs/EDs to the originals. I'm fine with it though, the upcoming "Brand New World" is one of my favourite One Piece OPs, but I still would've liked to have heard a dub version of that, just for comparison.
