New Anime Releases - 04/10/2015

FYI the Jojos release doesn't have unskippable English credits as far as I've seen so far watching it - it's the same Japanese credits as the streams, complete with the same music (Roundabout).

Amazon says PAL - so I imagine that's the case. Can't see anything on the discs though. I have to admit I thought I did notice some speed-up on the OP title sequence. The song felt a little faster than I remember from the streams.

Definitely heard reports of that about the US release. Not sure if they altered that for the UK release. Are the JP credits skippable?

Is this real?

The episode quality actually seems surprisingly decent considering there's three and a half hours on the first disc alone. Obviously it's nowhere near Blu Ray quality, but it's by no means awful either. Just standard DVD quality I'd say.

Re: What I said about importing the US version. It's 40 USD, I think I'll wait a while, it's a 25 USD at most show and that's before you factor in the quality of the release...

I guess the release isn't as bad as I was led to believe. Still, dubtitles are a huge negative. Oh well, I'm collecting the JP blu rays anyway so I'm not too concerned. I just hope they put in proper subs for their next release.

Don't kid yourself, I wouldn't call it a good release, and a cult hit like JoJo's deserved better. For me personally I like the show, but I'm not in the unquestionable "Dio, please have my babies" adoration camp, the release is a good enough. But is "good enough" really what people want?

It's just weird that the main complaint is about the menus rather than something that actually matters (I looked it up on RightStuf, most of the complaints gave one line to the dubtitles and a paragraph to the menus).

It does seem really really really cheap though. Even kaze has anime styled menus.

Warner Bros. do that on literally all their titles, I don't see why JoJo's would be any different or why anyone gives a ****?

Going by Amazon pre orders this will probably be one of the best selling anime releases of the year - so clearly the crappy menus have little impact. Jojos has always been a title that swings more toward the casuals anyway, same as any Shonen title.

We're amongst the hardcore few that care about quality control, but realistically, unless you're looking at a dedicated supplier like Anime Ltd, all this means very little.

Not only that, but it's alarmingly cheap, Warner Bros. holds sway within the industry, and if you didn't know it was an anime, you wouldn't necessarily work it out from the look and plot synopsis of the product. I would be amazed if JoJo's isn't a top 3 anime best seller over here.

I need to buy Railgun when I have the money to. I also need to buy Index and Chunibyo when I have the available funds as well 9.9.

Ugly DVD menus aside, what the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure release really needed was a blu-ray, as well as a front cover that didn't make it look like a generic Cartoon Network series (but then again, the standard edition Japanese DVD box art wasn't so great either).

I think what it comes down to is, the different business practices between a specialist anime distributor and an international giant like Warner Bros. Anime distributors target a very small niche of fans and will go the extra mile to appease the hardcore fans, whereas Warner Bros. will want to appeal to a highly competitive mass market. People who are used to one strategy will naturally find the other unsettling.

Considering that Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is currently on Amazon for only £14 ahead of its release, I'd say it's easily the cheapest new anime release of the year. If one of the usual suspects had licensed the series, I imagine that the same number of episodes would ended up costing at least twice that.
