Neon Genesis Evangelion

Why do kids in this country always apologise before they state an opinion even if it's not offensive to someone?
I don't see that, maybe its because people feel it will offend someone, they don't want to get off on the wrong foot like that, forums aren't a good way to represent someones attitude or emotions, I could be saying this seriously or sarcastically, you would never 100% know unless I said so. Suppose thats what emotions are there for, but I've put "lol" smilies down when I'm not even laughing just to please someone.

True but that is how British kids talk.

Another thing is that everyone always says

I'm Ja or I'm Jer

as in the beginning of saying I'm Joking.

Funny stuff, Funny Stuff, Im Jer

I'm sorry, but to me EoE is the ending they wanted to make originally but just didn't have the money for.

1) I think that's pretty much been established as fact. Same thing happened with Kare Kano and Gainax.
Lies.

They didn't run out of money with Eva, and they didn't run out of money with Kare Kano.

The last two eipsodes of Eva wrapped up the story, which had nothing to do with angels, Nerv, Seele, Lilith, or the dead sea scrolls.

Kare Kano was cut short because the mangaka didn't like the way the new director was handling the series, and called an end to it.

It's showing respect for someone else's opinion before you stomp it into the mud :p

*Puts on GAINAX fanboy hat*

They didn't so much "run out of money" on EVA, but they more screwed everything up, in those days GAINAX were still a fairly new company and basically weren't all that good when it came to money (one of the producers or founders of the studio went to prison for tax fraud I believe). They were getting behind on work on the episodes as the series progressed (they had made the first 6 or so episodes before the show had aired I believe) which is why the quality dropped considerably as the series went along, also a major factor is that supposedly TV Tokyo cut (what was left of) their budget later in the series because they thought it was getting too dark and depressing for a show that was on in a prime time slot.

Your right about Kare Kano, there was no budget problems I don't think, but its basically the other way around that you said. Hideaki Anno apparently wanted to give the show its own ending that he had thought up, but the mangaka protested, thus making Anno very irritated (control freak) so he basically walked out with only a few episodes left, thus the last few episodes being crap and having no ending.

If it was just in those cases I wouldn't mind so much but people do it even when they're not even arguing against someone else.

Don't get me wrong, I love Evangelion, but to me, ( and as i've said before ), the series had always screamed. 'Oh crap were running out of money. What can we do to pad it out a bit?'

But doesn't the Platnium Collection fix these problems? There are some rumors that Gainax spent as much on "enhancing" the series for this release as did on originally making it. So maybe the feeling that Evangelion was cheap is no longer there in the new collection?

Forgive me for adding to this debate but apologising unnecessarily is one of those most quintessentially English things. I like how we apologise if someone treads on our feet or if someone bumps into us in the street.

Where'd this 'debate' even come out of? I thought this was a discussion on NGE and not English manners

Yes it does to an extent, the directors cut explains thing a little better and rounds the story out a bit more, but if you've seen it you'll notice that artwork in key scenes has been changed to match that of EoE, and the end of epilogue bits after the credits of the couple of episodes leading upto the final 2 reference EoE as well, so it's not hard to guess which ending the director thinks is the propper one. :D

You're forgiven, :D and you're so right.

Hmm... I hadn't heard the TV Tokyo thing before. You can certainly tell from the animation and artwork that they had less cash as the series progressed, but I still don't think that means they were out of cash by the final episodes.

Ah, ok, I knew it was a breakdown in the relationship between the director and mangaka that led to the abrupt ending, I just got the wrong director  .

Yeah I doubt it got as far as them not having ANY cash left but it was certainly tight, I think the lack of manpower and time is definetly an important factor aswel.

Thats forgivable :D, to be honest the details on what exactly happened are fairly sparse really, all I know was that the mangaka kicked up a fuss about Anno's ending so Anno walked out, leaving Gainax a bit miffed about what to do, hence the non-existant ending and the pointless recap episodes towards the end.

I want a BONES one.
My reason for putting the last two episodes as the major marmite episodes is more due to the fact that it either turns it from a great series to a good series or a dire series.

After ordering the set, I'm really, really hyped for Evangelion! I honestly cannot wait to watch it!

Can anyone fill me in on the manga? Like is it a sidestory, a continuation or just another re-interpretation?

Basically the main manga is a re-interpretation written by the guy that did the character designs for the series I believe, and theres also another Eva manga which is basically a parralell universe.

Angelic Days. A truely dire fan wank of biblical proportions. Avoid like ebola virus. There is however a very good Dōjinshi called Eva ReTake which takes the ending and picks up from there, and some have argued it's better that the orginal ending. The biggest joke however is that it was done by a Hentai circle.

Yeah Re-take is Okay. Little too much liquid though. I'm still puzzled why the Japanese seem to think that girls "release" out of their mouths?

Angelic Days isn't that bad, it isn't that good either but it's somewhat amusing mainly because it's Eva characters not being Eva characters.

Re-Take confused the hell out of me, even more-so than the original ending, Angelic Days (I couldnt remember the US title for it :D) is ok I guess, but really nothing special, its basically all harem/romance manga clichés set to the tune of Eva.
