But... But the chart...

Oh for ffffffff
Long story short, Hanamonogatari was delayed during broadcast but it is still part of Monogatari series: Second Season, though rather than being in the middle of the series it's now after the other Second Season arcs.

It works either way considering it's story takes place after the rest regardless.

Hana is in the S2 boxset that MVM have done.

I wish that @MVM made a Season 1 boxset, and then a Season 3 one, both in the same style as the Season 2 one. I'd re-buy the boxset for Season 1 even though I have Bake and Nise collections, and I'd buy the S3 one in a heartbeat.

Oh, so “Second Season” can either refer to TWO series or it can refer to SIX. This just gets better.

The MVM boxset has the whole thing collected in the correct order so for chart based pursposes you can scrub out Hanamonogatari if that makes it easier to understand. It's an unfortunate consequence of Hana and Kizu being severely delayed.

EDIT:

Updated the chart just for you.

To make it even more fun, the "2nd season" is actually the 3rd season according to TVDB. Season 1 being Bakemonogatari, Season 2 Nisemonogatari, and it's only Season 3 that is the "2nd Season". 🔥

For completeness:

Season 1 Bake, Nise and Neko Black

Season 2 is Neko White, Kabuki, Otori, Oni, Koi and Hana

Season 3 is Tsuki, Owari vol1, Owari vol2, Koyomi, Owari vol3 and Zoku

And theres also the Kizu movie trilogy

The ones in bold are the 3 that recently had the early bird deals.

Kizu technically comes in S1 just after Bake though MVM do kind of ignore that. :p

So Nekomonogatari Black is... not collected in anything else and currently unavailable anywhere, right? Awesome.
That's right unfortunately.

MVM have said they would like to do a full s1 set but haven't been allowed and it seems unlikely it will happen as I dont think theres even been one in Japan.

You'll be stuck searching the second hand market I'm afraid but it's pretty much become the hardest part to find as far as I can tell

Yeah true in viewing order that's where they fit but as movies rather than part of the tv show I separated them just to show everything that's been released.
As an aside it was very jarring coming from Kizu which I consider the absolute best arc to Nise which I consider the worst lol.

Ah right I forgot that it went OOP hmm.

Right. That's saved me a lot of hassle. S*d this, I was only interested as far as what I could get for a decent sized CeX voucher. I'm not paying second hand OOP prices, time to blow this on a pile of low-tier ecchi instead.

Monogatari 2nd season is OOS online at Cex anyway as far as I can see, decent price but not listed for sale. You'd have probably been out of luck anyway.

Yeah, I was really trying to get things which were AROUND that (since I probably couldn't afford it even second hand anyway) so I could fill that gap later, but if I can't even get Neko Black then I'll just bloody leave it for now.

No Shaft consider their adaptions part of the final season and fits as it explains the start before the “End”
For me either works and I watch them at the start as I watch in chronological order which makes Owarimonogatari fun as you watch book/vol 2 before Neko White and Vol 1 afterwards

Having watched it all fairly recently (within last 6 months) I really enjoyed placing Kizu after Bake, it gave a lot of backstory into Shinobu and made me appreciate her more for the remainder that I saw after it.

Friend of mine hated Kizu though, didn't like the gore/action and preferred Bake style pacing. I loved the Kizu films myself, was over the top and ridiculous but great all the same.

I feel your pain ayase, I'm just glad the only ones left for me are the ones MVM is publishing in the summer.

I've got Tsuki and Owari parts 1 and 2 on the way, glad to be done with that nonsense!

Now to get back to that watch order graphic as soon as I get the final three in the summer... Galaxy brain stuff, to be sure 🤷‍♂️

It is surprising to me that MVM randomly stopped selling one part that takes place midway through lol. There's always the AoA release which is £50 on UP1 but not ideal for the average person since it's y'know AoA.

What you could do is just buy Bake on it's own and see if you like it before you comit to anything, If you end up hating it you can CEX that sucker and nothing lost, that's how I approached it anyway (and the Kizu trilogy after Bake is honestly my favorite Anime movie trilogy ever).

The thing is in Japan, Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari Black were given a BD-Box together whereas Bakemonogatari remains on its own. Aniplex of America technically should be able to provide a similar release but at this point they're more or less waiting on Aniplex Japan to make a First Season (exc. Kizu) box set.

In other words, in the middle case scenario I believe MVM should be able to do a Nise & Neko Black collection while waiting on a proper First Season BD-Box later down the line.

Random note: Monogatari as a whole is 100 episodes and 3 films in total.
