UK Anime Distributor MVM Entertainment Discussion Thread

I generally dont see a problem with that pic, mvm are promoting a horror anime, and for me, id be thinking oh wow, looks intresting that,so i would sort of know what to expect if not watched it before

Deal of the week is decent this week only need season 3 as bought season 1 previously and season 2 from cex months ago, havemt bought a deal in over a month!!

Tbf I'm a bit inconsistent, like god knows why I like Perfect Blue so much given my general distaste for violence (I mean it has a lot going for it outside of that, but the gore is def shocking!) But I can relate overall to what you said. Also, I wanna say I'm glad to have you on the forum, speaking as a mid-30-something person, I'm interested in older people's experiences with fandom generally, before DVDs and streaming and whatnot, though ofc I don't know what age it was that you got into anime. But yeah I grew up in the 90s and always found gore hard to stomach mostly, though my overall tolerance is higher for it in 2D animation, that's partly desensitisation over time as an anime fan though, like as a kid I didn't even like the Itchy and Scratchy segments in The Simpsons even though I loved the show as a whole and understand that Itchy and Scratchy is partly making a satirical point about bloodless cartoon violence... I still don't like them tbh haha XP

On that topic, you might enjoy Is the Order a Rabbit? which is very cute and bloodless but also hilarious and with some pleasing weird elements (I'm not being paid to say that lol, just trying to keep things on topic, and I do really like this week's DOTW show) :)
Ah, you got in before me.
I wanted to say to the poster that it's probably not just them and even if it is, then your view is your view.
If I'm going to find something disturbing, it is more likely to be live action.
I won't even bother to watch a Saw or Hostel and I haven't seen The Exorcist.

PS
I'm struggling with Is the Order a Rabbit, a big too sugary. And I already own all 3. 😭

What a difference 10 years makes.

I grew up with Terminator, Alien, Robocop, Highlander, and Oodles of Arnold Schwarzenneger action movies. Gore was cool.

I think what desensitized me to fantasy violence and blood was the day that my friend (who wanted to go into medicine as a career), invited like minded friends to his house to watch a video of an actual surgery to get a heads-up beforehand of what medicine will be like. 10 seconds of a Rhinoplasty put me off my lunch, and confirmed to me that movie blood and gore is nothing like the real thing.

I can see that show being a bit too fluffy for you haha, not enough action and panties maybe? (I mean that in a nice way it's not meant to sound snarky!) :) But yeah I really like slice of life comedy so I enjoyed it, out of curiosity have you seen Hinamatsuri and if so what did you think of it? Just cuz I rewatched it recently and I'm not sure if it would be to your taste or not?

I get what you mean but I think it's me being sensitive as much as anything, tbf Highlander (the first one anyway) isn't that bad for an 18 IIRC, funnily enough I was just talking about Robocop with a friend and they were saying how it's odd that it got it's own animated series aimed at kids, when at the same time films like Finding Nemo are percieved as too upsetting for kids (cuz parental fish death on screen) it does kinda illustrate how things change with the times I guess but I could generally manage scenes like that and the one in The Lion King and Bambi, they did upset me but I could handle it, whereas gore is mostly just 🤢 to me - we're all different tbf :)

I found Hinamatsuri funny but was expecting and wanting more Yakuza stuff. It almost seemed like they forgot about that bit after the first episode.
A bit like Buddy Daddies, more hitman stuff would have been nice.
With Rabbit, part of the problem is my concentration span. I'm liking something enough but ooh, there's a new shiny show.

Kuma Kuma Bear and Grace of the Gods were very enjoyable and had no issue watching.

That's fairs, I get what you mean about them "forgetting" the Yakuza element somewhat fairly early on in the series - I know the attention span issue well cries in ADHD 🥲

Is there an issue with dispatching at MVM at the moment? I placed an order last Friday but it still stuck at "payment accepted". Anytime I have ordered in the past the order has been dispatched the next day so this has got me a little worried 😟

Gah, missed the Berserk steelbook early bird price. Hoping for an MVM spring sale to bring it back down. Already own the CE so looking to cheap out as much as possible.
Beserk Steelbook current price is currently pretty good at £34.99 and its over the postage threshold so its not that much more than the early bird price of 29.99+Postage (£2), so only £3 more assuming that was your only buy cause being 1p off the free postage threshhold is slighly aggravating

If you're below the threshold, stick a £2 DVD onto the order, watch some schlocky Far Eastern Horror, while Ninja Battle is a bit of fun.
