in anime and/or manga which is your expertise

Listen to Rui ruining all the fun. :p

But in response to the Prof, I would say *exactly*. Kaiji is just like [those guys] - he goes overboard with his gambling, gets himself into crazy scrapes but somehow scrapes by, and is generally seen as a "cool" character for all his flaws, definitely the "hero" of the series.

"It's OK to be a degenerate gambling loser, because you can still be as cool as Kaiji".

"what Otaku type are you"

Essentially the same thing....

"which anime character would you be"

Pretty close to the above.

AF17, thought you where going to think before posting?
i think there different

what otaku type are you is what anime type things you like
figures, manga, idols, video games, anime dvds, items, collectibles,

in anime and/or manga which is your expertise
lets say im a mech manga/anime fan and that would be my expertise more then other anime/mangas genres

which anime character would you be
this is about characters that you wish you could be

really in my eyes all these are different, no disrespect

Hmm I'm confused, there can be different types of moe? Based on my conversations here I gathered that moe simply referred to the slightly disturbing females who have ridiculously large eyes, small bodies and non existent persoanlities.

But there can be mullet-moe, I'm all for mullets!
They have to be 2D, that's the only restriction.
Generaly it's over a character trait or combination of traits, which you can distinctly label.
It's the: twintails, zettai ryouiki, _dere, _ uniform, nekomimi, vocal tick etc. traits that are generaly considered moe.
Simple personalites are more easy to label, and reproduce (if popular) so tend to dominate.

The other main type is gap moe, creating a disparity between the design and the personality. e.g. adult that acts childish, or vice versa.

Big eyes & small bodies (assume you mean relative to head size) are general manga things, especialy in shoujo. They've been around far longer than moe was realy considered, or pandered to.

But on the other hand it could be taken as:

"in anime and/or manga which is your expertise"
Mecha

"what Otaku type are you"
Mecha

"which anime character would you be"
(X) from mecha anime (Y)

So the first 2 are infact very close to asking the same question twice and the last question is just a follow on from the previous 2.

it could be-
I think i should of said
what otaku type are you and what anime/manga genre expert are you

otaku types
1 anime
2 manga
3 video games
4 figures and items
5 ect

and what anime /mangas genre expert are you

ecchi
mech
adventure
romance
sports
ect

do you think that sounds better

Where is that stated?
The weeaboo manual.
It's not, the word is too new, it's also from (most likely) 2ch or a similar BSS, and records of the origin have been lost as there's no proper internet archives so no citation. All we know was it apeared around 95-98.

Wiki states it can only be aplied to anime manga or game characters right at the start. It's the only part of the definition there's no deabte over.

I'm pretty sure some idol otaku I've been around would disagree.

There's cases where you an use it, like cosplay. Real person acting as a 2D character, and some idols (AKB48) ARE video game characters.

Would require that it's clear they are a made for TV persona, and exceptance of them being de-humanised. You can't use moe about real people, you'd have to treat the idols as chara. which I supose some may be close to.

rofl, wiki can't "state" anything. Perhaps you should look up the wikipedia entry for "wikipedia".

I also love the idea that the reason the word is not in "The Weeaboo Manual" is because it is too new.

genres you want to get and avoid

this is a thread for everyone who'll have a lucky dip of animes to buy, but some fans have a genre they dont like and try to avoid it.

e.g. i dont like romance, tragedys and love triangles i dont mind romantic comedies as long its not peach girl and i dont mind two guys fighting over 1 girl like vampire knights

but i like genre shows like blue gender, DBZ, ghost hunt, cowboy bepop, trigun, bleach, naruto, one piece, tenchi, fruits basket. ect

anyways im avoiding
tsubasa
clannad
kanon
otobku
rumbling hearts
air
suzuka
im going to keep using the lucky dip but avoid romantic, tragedys, and love triangle animes
what genres you guys in to and want to avoid

Merged with this thread as it's so similar that it can be an spin-off of the original question ;) it also means we might all get to argue about moe all over again.

I only really avoid obvious cutesy bishoujo harem shows, and even then I sometimes like them if they have sexy character designs. My taste is sort of difficult to predict sometimes and doesn't stick to genres. I remember annoying Aion once because I love Berserk but won't even consider checking out Claymore :s

Most people have annoyed Aion at some point (myself included).

The only genre I avoid is BL. Anything else I avoid isn't genre specific.

I am married, so I'm not entirely limited to 2D, but I do like it better in most cases :) and Sebastian is wonderful, though part of that is his twisted personality, voice and manner. I can't say there's an exact science behind what I consider attractive, though, especially as I'm into doujinshi which often alter character designs quite significantly to bring in new art styles.

I like how this topic is now about sexy men. This is an unusual and welcome direction!
