By the way, did anyone else enjoy the butt-shot of the Major towards the end before she ejected from the Tachikoma? lol.
Arby and I laughed at that.

But then I was like DAT ASS

LOL.

So you got Arby to watch too? I guess he's avoiding this thread because it's not a rewatch for him? lol.

I was surprised to see that Mamoru Oshii wasn't involved in the first series - the notion of putting off cyberisation until death frees you from your religion strikes me as the sort of thing he'd write.

Another great stand alone episode though; I think that might be my favourite from series 1. Some more subtle world building as well. I thought the offhand comment from one of the troopers about not knowing Section 9 really existed was a nice touch.

Echoes of the first Patlabor movie in episode 2, which features an apparently pilot-less military tank running amok. Section 9 do, of course, soon find out that the tank does indeed have a pilot... of sorts.

An decent episode that further establishes what is possible in this vision of the future. The Major's arse was definitely the highlight.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: if I could find a woman drawn like Motoko, i'd be a happy little fanboy!

I enjoyed the ballistics of the start of the episode, aswell as the genreal mechanical idea of the tank witht he motion.

Raises the questions.

Did motoko comit murder? with the erasure of a cyber mind? Since his cyber mind in a "rogue" tank did no crimes worth the death sentence. many a philosphical debate befor i complicate it more.

I agree with everything here.

Akyho, you don't need to spoiler tag that. Those questions are the things this thread was designed for lol.

Surely you could ask Motoko murdered the **** out of a lot throughout the series though? lol.

I don't think you could call it murder per se. Setting aside the question of whether Kago's mind inside the tank equates to a human being, I read the situation as Motoko moving to destroy the tank's 'brain' immediately on contact, still assuming it to be armed and dangerous at this point. Unfortunately, it's only in the same moment that she 'takes the shot' that she realises Kugo's true motive.

If religion forbade him from undergoing cyberisation, why did he have a cyber brain in the first place?

Eh, I'm only speculating, but I'd guess that, knowing his body was about to die, Kago's last request was to have his mind transferred to a cyber brain so that he could be planted into the tank.

I made this post while wearing a monocle and gesturing with a calabash tobacco pipe.

Episode 3

Another great episode - really reminding me why I love Ghost in the Shell so much. Seemed to really ask some questions - the fact that the Android added a line onto the films dialogue really makes us question whether that Android had a Ghost or not. It was another sad episode, really. But very enjoyable. I'll be looking forward to the next episode - the first Complex episode! I've been dying to get to this point.

On a side-note, it was great to see Pazu beating some dude up too lol.

I'm sure there's more I wanted to talk about, but i've totally forgotten what.

How did everyone else find it?

This is a weird episode for me to watch. I mean, the last time I saw it, i was watching it with friends. They really got into the plight of the kid and his android. But I just can't sympathise with the guy - it seems so weird!

I got more out of watching Section 9 do their thing, how they went about solving that case.

He's a lonely guy who had sexual ideals relating to androids I suppose. He seemed to be pretty useless around real women.

Did you not find it interesting how she displayed signs of a Ghost depsite the fact she is an android?

Not rewatched it yet (too much going on in life), but from my memory I came to the same conclusion... Adding a line = creativity = soul...

Tbh I find ep 10 probably one of the best...

It's early days - so you should catch up easily ;)

Yeah, it's a really worrying episode in a sense - how the soul is defined in this case could arguably this one scrap of thought the Android gets.

If in doubt as to whether you can catch up - they've only been Stand Alone episodes so far. Tonight (I say this meaning just after-midnight) will be Episode 4, and that's a Complex episode - That's where **** kicks off 8)

Hope to see ya' posting :) I'm finding it so hard not to marathon this show. I've resisted thus far though :p

I watch Anime with the wife and we only have about 2-3 hours a night together, so watching anything is a pain, i'll see what I can do during my lunch breaks :D

If you can get episode 4 done in tommorows lunch, you won't have missed much ;) You'll be starting the main story :p You seem to have good memory of the first 3 eps. There are summaries on Wiki too anyway. :)
