Fullmetal Alchemist (on Rapture) discussion

Quite good tonight. Far too much silly humour not fitting the story again (though admitedly, this time, it is a generally lighter story, so it doesn't grate so much, but all the same, very inapropriate) and i also felt it struggled to fit the story into the 25 minute slot. could have done with spreading that story over two installments i think. All the same, it was quite good, and kept the story ticking over.

Took me till the break to figure out the girl was a girl lol

rapture seemed to have a meltdown before FMA so i paniced a little

i just wish they'd back up to modern day i hate flashback episodes

I was stressing because of the blank screen - But well done to Raputre for fixing it in time. :)

Was todays episode a flashback? I couldn't figure it out. I know the bit at the beginning with the train was a flashback, but the rest? It's hard to decide because between the flashback and the modern day episodes Edward doesn't really look any older (From what I can tell. ^^;; )

It's all character building I guess, and while the humour may seem out of place, I guess it's there to remind you that the main characters are only kids afterall.

The show seems to really tug on the old heart strings quite a bit in each episode - lost or stolen happiness, revenge and sorrow - it really is a tear jercker... But it looks like the next episode holds a lot more back-story development anyway, so here's to next tuesday...

I'm actually getting a little bored with the backstory too - especially so early in the series. I would have liked a bit more "present day" action and THEN get to the backstory. Still, it's keeping me transfixed. Not as much as Wolf's Rain though.

I love the backstory episodes. Episode 3 is still one of my favourites after having seen the series twice.
Episode three is a good episode, very sad.
FMA is a very good series, and although i've seen all the episodes so far they are still very enjoyable to watch again. Also another thing thats great is that it's actually even got my dad watching it, who had previously fully supported a love of anime, but never actually watched much

Would your Dad like to switch with mine? I'd be most grateful. In my house my father is the king of the TV as soon as he comes home at around 8. I have no problem with this, because it's his house and he pays the bills etc. etc. etc.

What I do have a problem with is when everyone is watching something and he just comes in, makes us all get off the sofa so he can lay there, switches it over to Discovery Channel and then fall asleep - Why no just go to bed?

I could just imagine him sitting down and taking an interest in something like FMA; practically feel the tears of joy running down my cheeks as he says, "You know this is really quite good, this anime-lark!" - I can see it all inside a blurry dream-bubble... but alas, it shall never be.

Anyway, I find with most series I generally loathe the first 2-4 episodes - but after character is firmly established I really get into whatever I'm watching. I get more out of earlier episodes when I go back to them having finished the series...

I have to admit that early doors FMA is somewhat indifferent and while a few initial episodes show some shocking promise (anyone who has seen FMA all the way through knows which disturbing event I'm talking about here), it takes a while (first 10 to 15 episodes) to build up some steam but when it finally does start moving, you will find yourself in love with the show. I almost gave up watching it after the first 10 episodes but for some reason I stuck with it; one of the best decisions I've made with regards to anime, the last 20 or so episodes are all fantastic.

Much better this one. Only a couple instances of poor taste humour (still short jokes though!) but i loved the idea. Reminded me of Undersiege 2 actually. Especially notable was turning part of the train into a cannon. Classic moment.

I enjoyed todays episode, and it's good to see some different (main) characters other than Ed and Al too.

I think it was past - because it's before Ed passes his State Alchemy test or something...?

I thout that was the best episode so far, regardless of it being past or present - it's all new to me anyway. It hit me yesterday that watching the series at one episode a week means that we won't be finished for another ten months odd...

Anyway, it was good to finally see Mustang do something, and both my younger brothers were impressed, so I'm happy...

Agreed. Some parts of it were hilarious!

I can understand now why they're keeping it in the past a lot. I think there's so much backstory to this anime that they decided to just show it all rather than be clever and slot it into the present day. If they had I know I would be very confused by now what with the plethora of new characters being introduced.
