Figure discussion/picture thread

Anyone ordered anything from "Eye on Asia" recently?

Starting to think they've gone bust and not told anyone. Have a pre-order that was due over a month ago, and have got no response from a number of emails/facebook messages over the last few weeks. Sucks that they took the money up front too, about ready to write it off as idiot tax.

Well, that would certainly explain the huge amount of items being added to their clearance sale. Although, I hadn't realised it until now, all the visitor posts have been removed from their Facebook page, which is rather odd...

It might be that just like UP, their supplier hasn't gotten any stock or didn't get enough stock to supply to everyone.

Something has definitely gone wrong with them recently. About a month ago they stopped getting new stock in, and that's about when they stopped communicating with their customers as well. They always had loads of fairly obscure figures in stock which never seemed to sell (UP1 by comparison only seem to buy in figures that are safe bets sales wise) so I wouldn't be surprised if they've financially run themselves into the ground. This is all speculation of course, but if that's the case then it would explain their silence recently as they probably don't actually have any money to refund people with. I hope I'm reading too much into all this though as they used to be a great place to buy from.

Figures are a dangerous business, hard to know what will sell and what will bargain bin so I'd not be too surprised if they ran into trouble. I do recall they had some issues with a cargo ship sinking a while back with some of their stock on board. Definitely looks like they are closing down given they have only 3 new figures in their new arrivals section and only 1 item in their upcoming releases.

If they are not responding to messages a paypal claim sounds like a good idea, that should at least prompt some action.
-edit- just spotted you placed your order in 2014, that sucks :(

Paypal replied with a standard "180 days" template message, so I'll probably just use it as an expensive lesson in not pre-ordering.

Guess I can deal with the scalpers on eBay instead.

Before you do that, I'd take copies of your paypal invoice and proof that you've attempted to contact them and visit your bank.

That sounds like a good idea, just because paypal protection has expired doesn't mean you might not be covered by your bank in some form.

I have to say paying up front for something that's not out for 6+ months worries me. I did it a little while back with a Japanese figure store and I'm wondering if I shouldn't of opted for pay later. (we'll see how that goes for me come Feb 2016)

I think it was one of those things where they order in enough figures to cover pre-orders. And there was a specific window in which to pre-order.

But yeah, maybe I'll try asking the bank if I get any free time, but I can't imagine them being able to help much either.

It depends a lot on your card; I got hit quite badly with Paypal preorders when a certain European DVD importer shut down and I eventually got every penny back through Paypal outside of their normal time window. They tried to give me the runaround a lot but I sent them a dossier full of evidence and they ended up capitulating.

If you paid directly from your bank balance you might not have so much power. It all depends.
