I'm not playing this game any more. My opinions are that Anno has absolutely no right to winge about the situation when his contributions have been 3.33 (Which I can do nothing but think took the original Idea of Rewrite of Eva, IE: A version of Evangelion written not made in a state of complete and utter breakdown, and threw it in everyone's face), stopping the dub on 3.33 (I can't see anyone else on the committee wanting that stopped other than him) and MeMeMe (Which basically is a gaudy Chick Tract).qaiz said:

Conan, if all you're going to contribute to the discussion is a selection of colourful ways to tell someone else to stop talking when they voice a perfectly reasonable dissenting opinion, you should probably start following your own advice.
I don't understand why you care so much about this topic and why you believe you have a deep and personal knowledge of exactly what goes on during production meetings between people whose names you don't know and whose language you don't speak, but as everything is conjecture your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's. Anno is a genius, whether you like him or not. His work was, and continues to be, content which has appealed to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. Rudely attacking someone for defending him makes no sense.

It's honestly fine; I guess I just get really upset when people tend to treat creative people in the industry with contempt. I mean, just because you've done some good stuff in the past doesn't make you exempt from being wrong and being rightly criticized, but I feel that usually falls flat when all your augment amounts to the fact that they made some crap recently and thus shouldn't have a voice and that they should no longer be allowed to voice their concern. Nobody should kiss his or anybody’s backside in the industry just because they've done some influential work in the past, as he is human at the end of the day and will say silly, stupid things from time to time that he should be called out for, but that also works both ways and grilling him for a statement he made, one that isn't damaging mind you is a bit much. If he said something sexist or racist? Yeah I'd be flipping tables too, but what he said wasn't even that bad so the anger isn't even warranted. The anime industry isn't sustainable, even ignoring the creative side, because good shows are still being made, but the pay and work environment these hardworking people have to deal with is a real problem.
I actually see it being very similar to George Lucas, another man in the film industry who gets grilled frequently. Yeah he ****** up with Star Wars (some would say that I'm putting it lightly), and thus should be criticized, but the man is still a farther and a husband at the end of the day, a man who's donated millions to charity and...you know, came up with Star Wars in the first place. This should not stop people from voicing their hate for what he's done with the franchise people hold near and dear to their hearts, but at the same time should be dished out accordingly.
Saying that Anno shouldn't be able to make a statement about the industry because he hasn't done anything as of late is like when people tell reviews of video games, books and movies to shut up because they haven't made a video game, book or movie themselves. They can, and will still express their opinions, and its up to the people at home to read said statements and make of it what they will.
I think, in the end I'm glad that people are discussing such things and I do believe that this forum would be boring if people just agreed with one another, nodding politely. That's what threads are for, to discuss your feelings on certain topics, and I would never stop people from feeling a certain way and if I ever have done so, I apologize. I can come across as assertive and I guess that stems from my passion for such topics, and my love for the creative people in the industry. It just gets tough to see people hating on the people who work their asses off to entertain us and make a living. Cue the world’s smallest violin, I know, Anno isn't going to lose any sleep for the hate he gets (maybe he gets off on it

This forum would be lonely if people kept their mouths shut, and I understand that things can get heated. I say some pretty stupid stuff, and as such encourage people to challenge what I say, and in the same breath I apologize if I ever said anything offensive or stupid. Maybe this whole thread got more complicated than it should have because of me, and maybe that happens a lot when I post. I've been known to dish dirt on Anime Limited, so even I'm not exempt from being harsh, but I do (maybe not successfully) try to explain why I feel as such. I post on various other forums, many of which are more..feisty in nature I guess and thus that might come across in my posts in this otherwise every relaxed environment where everybody is friendly. Because this forum has a lot less posters than other forums I go on (one which has a total of 155,000 users) maybe its easier to hold grudges, but I do genuinely hope that I don't scare people off. Conan is a fine poster, and for what it's worth, I respect him. I guess this thread was a bit of a mess for everybody but I hope that these types of discussions aren't looked down upon, I like it when people speak their minds even if I come across as abrasive, like an unstoppable force meeting the immovable object Hopefully its all good.

Anno is doing what Satoshi Kon, (God Rest His soul), was doing shortly before his untimely death. As much as I too have issues with Anno's treatment of EVA fans, I give him full credit for arranging and hosting this Exhibition of possible would be hopeful animators. He knows that all the old talent is just that, old and getting older and that if no new blood is found soon then anime is going to be dead or so corporately homogenized that it will be nothing but 27 minute toy commercials, or soft porn with virtually nothing in-between. Out of all the shorts I've seen so far, Hill Climb Girl has got me wanting to see it commissioned the most. :thumb:

The main thing I want from the future of anime is good sequels to good shows. Ufotable x Type moon anime and monogatari aren't going to end in the next 5 years.

I don't think there will be a baccano sequel. The novels are in a linear order and I thought baccano ended nicely.

Ehh, I'll be honest, I really think Kill La Kill has a vastly more compelling story and characters than Promare - maybe the latter would have been better as a series than a movie, IDK.

And I would totally agree with you on that front.
I do really like Promare, but I feel like a lot of people like it more than I do, if that makes sense.
Kill la Kill, on the other hand, is a 10-out-of-10 all-time anime highlight for me.
