I think my brain just crashed. Time to reboot.

I don't follow today's pop music industry, but from what I hear, there's little rap music being released. Also, what little is being released isn't like all that violent crap. It's just crap. So I don't understand where you and other people get this idea that the industry is being overrun by the gangsta' rap culture.

I get the idea when I visit a friend and watch their music video channels and 9/10 videos are of small men in large clothes talking over a recycled bass beat about slapping up some hoes. And the other 1/10 is generally from the 80s. I don't actually hate rap itself, just the oversaturation of a type of music I wouldn't generally listen to by choice with a reputation for having rubbish lyrics. I feel that other good artists are currently massively underrepresented in the mass media.

It's probably not that many different artists/songs - I can't tell them apart - so much as gratuitous overplaying of a few big names. Doesn't really bother me as I avoid TV and radio where possible. When the fashion changes I'm in serious danger of becoming interested again.

Anyway what's the point in arguing if you start by admitting you don't follow it in the first place?

R (need more wholesome hip hop like Baby Got Back :p)

I haven't heard Duffy (can't watch on this PC) but this is the most compelling point yet. Even if she's not that great, diluting the "gangsta" fashion in pop music even a little bit is something I approve of.

You're that harsh just because you don't like their singing/songs? Jeez.

Hey if you listen to cats being strangled and find that a good then whatever floats your boat, but i don't like listening to someone moan through 3 minutes and call it music.
some of the lyrics aren't even words ffs how the hell can't i be that harsh?

I like Duffy, but she's not anywhere near as fantastic as Amy Winehouse! :]

Mistake.

Duffy's voice makes me wretch with hatred and anger, but Amy Winehouse is just a waste of matter entirely.

Because I know enough to know you were generalising.

Fighting perceived generalisation with more generalisation? Mm k.

Disclaimer

For the forum police squad, this next point is another general attempt to make conversation on something someone said and is not meant to offend delicate sensibilities.

Tachi: Songs without meaningful lyrics can still be good, I think. What about songs in made up languages or instrumentals? I think it can be ok so long as it sounds good and works with the song (obviously you don't think it sounds good in her case ;) ).

I guess it just annoys me for a few reasons.

People who are made by the industry, have their voices electronically remastered so its pitch perfect, who have their music generated by a computer and they don't have to much at all and yet become famous.

the one hit wonders are another bunch of annoying so-and-so's

True music is the effort, sweat and tears you put into the lyrics, the strenuous hours you is playing the same tune with your guitar and modifying it ever so slightly till you get the right sound your looking for, the hours you spend practicing all through your summer holidays. the sleepless nights sat at your computer screen making the album covers. and the tiring days that follow.

after all that effort your truly deserve some acknowledgement and thanks. not these idiots who moan and whine on a record and the world kisses their arse for a job well done.

Bring back Tupac Shak-- Oh wait, he's apparently dead but new albums keep coming out. Wut?
Because he's been recording new material underground with Bruce Lee, Princess Diana, and the mole people, since he 'died'.

...blah blah...

I'm really not sure what twisted parallel reality you're living in where Leona Lewis "can't sing", but apparently rave is some musical masterpiece where people "try to sing"! =/

Do you honestly think there's more musical skill involved in putting a distorted beat and a few random sounds together on a laptop than there is for a Leona Lewis song or even the average rap track?

Yes. Because its so much more than that.
But i'm not going to get into an argument because rave isnt really a genre of music. But theres so many different type of electronic Tachi could be talking about.

At last. Thats my kinda level

I cant stand these **** singers getting hits. Why doesnt everyone listen to people who have TALENT. Leona Lewis, Amy Whinehouse, Duffy? They all have NO talent. Why not listen to someone who spent YEARS practising guitar to get the skill level they are, shredding it up on an album, with quite frankly, better vocal ability than these others. Way more sense. Metal ftw.

No, because I was completely and utterly overwhelmed at seeing her, actually singing in front of me. She meant to play last year, too, but she pulled out at the last moment. It happens to a lot of people; you spend so much time listening to an artist's music, and you come to adore it, and then you finally see them.
Why don't I like metal? Well, everyone has their preferences, right? I'm more of a Regina Spektor type person~ vastly different genres. I could never like metal. I dislike the way they 'sing', most metal I've experienced has the lead 'singer' screaming down a microphone. Or the music in general.

Its not really screaming... its more of a roar/growl.

And last year, yeah, why did she pull out? Cause shes a waste of matter. Shes a drugged up alcy, she deserves no fame. What kinda impression is that on youths "Yeh, go take drugs, and drink alot, sing about how your life SUCKS and get famous for it".

I have no respect for her at all.

Amy Winehouse is a drunk, a thug, a junky and a general chud of turd that is stapled to the music industry. You assholes only like her because of her at best; mediocre singing ability, which quite frankly cannot be a redeeming quality once compared to her proclivities.

In regards to the so called 'screaming', I can't speak for every band but screaming is generally an attribute seen in scene/mallcore/fagcore bands, not be confused with the deeper roar or growling sound found in most decent metal acts.

If your musical taste was a reflection of one's own character, you'd be right down there with Shipman, Gein, and Bates.
