Surprised they aren't marketing it under the English sub title since it's so memorably silly. Semi-curious about this so I'll give it a whirl at some point.

I don't say this very often but... this show sounds fun. I love fish-out-of-water setups and I'm getting a vaguely Captain Tylor vibe from Moretsu Pirates (not that I expect it to be anywhere near that good). If the first episode impresses I might subscribe again.

EDIT: already licensed by Sentai. Their PR copy is worth a lol for this:

Get ready for intergalactic buccaneering unlike any you’ve ever seen before as the spaceways get broad-sided by cutting lasses, curvy knaves and the sexiest pirate’s chest ever in MOURETSU PIRATES!
Stay classy, neo-ADV!

hang on, did i see the outlaw star in that vid?
I did think I did see it and isn't some of the black lightning more akin to the Tao Spells?

Course it could just be visual confirmation bias.

Then again, Nadesico dood is on this, that's right up there with P4 dood being the Seto No Hanayome dood.

Seriously, when I reported this everybody hated it and now a sea-change in opinion?

Prince of Tennis II! :D

Following yesterday's reveal of Moretsu Pirates, Crunchyroll continues to add to their lineup of new anime simulcasts for winter 2012 by announcing Prince of Tennis II, based on the New Prince of Tennis manga by original Prince of Tennis creator Takeshi Konomi. You'll be able to see it Wednesdays at 10:30 AM beginning January 4th.

Here's the official synopsis:

“Middle school students fought fiercely against one another in a national tournament. Now, 50 chosen representatives return to fight against high schoolers! The stage is the U-17 (Under Seventeen) Japanese Representative Training Camp. Middle school students have been invited for the first time to a camp known to produce the best Japanese tennis players.

National champions from Seigaku, Hyotei, Rikkai, Shitenhoji...With all the rivals from the national tournament attending, everyone eagerly awaits their reunion. At first, the middle schoolers do not expect much from their high school opponents. However, the training camp is not so easy!

Athletes with skills incomparable to those they previously faced and their mysterious coach appear before them. Faced with numerous demanding challenges, can the middle schoolers survive in this meritocratic training camp? The new chapter of Prince of Tennis begins here! The curtain rises on a new stage--”

Prince of Tennis II will be available in the following territories: North America, South America, Central America, Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Portugal, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Turkey.

Hurrah! I hope PoT gets another chance on DVD one day. I was collecting the R1s despite their enormous flaws but Viz gave up :(

Anyone want a slice of Mooncake?

The list of new announcements at Crunchyroll continues to grow! And now the realm of new live-action films has been reached.

Crunchyroll, in partnership with Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc. (TBS), will be launching the Japanese movie MOONCAKE January 1st at 10am PST. It's a romantic drama set in the aftermath of Japan's 3/11 earthquake...

Here's the official synopsis:

“Singapore – the booming economic center of Asia, a kaleidoscope of cultures, and blessed with natural greenery, it is said to be the most beautiful country under the sun. Singapore’s exotic allure as the crossroads of the unique Asian culture of the East with that of the West provides the perfect backdrop for a dramatic love-story between a Japanese woman from Tohoku and a Singaporean man. The man, a former elite banker, has lost his family to the Great Sumatran earthquake and tsunami, has chosen to re-start his life as a rescue and search professional. The woman is looking for a new life as well. The two meet under the radiant Singapore sun, and are magnetically attracted to each other.

But a tearful parting awaits them…The man wants to focus on his new goal in life , and the distance between the couple grows. Misunderstandings take place, and amidst confused feelings, the March 11 earthquake and tsunami strike Japan. The man rises to the occasion and heads to Japan as a member of DART, the elite, urban rescue unit of the SCDF. In this drama, we hope to portray how a woman, through her relationship with a Singaporean man, matures in the face of a tragedy that brutally takes away precious lives and communities developed over time and history.”

Not a series, but a movie!

And next up is more Natsume Yuujinchou, unsurprisingly. They seem to be managing more UK rights this time after some disappointing announcements earlier in the year.

I might watch Mooncake when it goes up, since I asked for more drama and all.

Seriously, when I reported this everybody hated it and now a sea-change in opinion?

Don't worry, I still think it looks pants. As far as I can see it's just like someone created a list of the most popular Japanese anime fetishes (pink hair-check, school girl uniforms-check, pirates-check, maids-check, guys in furry coats-check) then threw in a bunch of iffy looking CGI spaceships and called it a day.

Still, it could have the potential to be fun if the title in any way reflects what the tone of the show will be like.

I will be watching moon cake though ( coincidentally, I actually did have real moon cake for the first time this year, and it was very delicious indeed!) if it's up for free. Is any of this stuff for free?
