Call of Duty 4

Vedict - AWESOME - A true next gen game

Played - PC Version

Been playing it all day (yes I got it a day early) and have been stunned by every second of gameplay. The training mission is in two parts one part is based in an SAS training centre including a mock shooting area you have to complete within a set amount of time and then you are taken to a huge tanker on the ocean and get to try it for real against enemies.

The voices are good if at times a little funny and help set the scenes, and the story is well thought out with plenty to keep casual and hardcore gamers engrossed.

UPDATE

I have managed to play some more of Act One since my first review and I have to add to this... The range of missions is staggeringly original, rather than just having the usual open fire missions with a few escort or tank driver events this game has come up with some astonishingly original levels.

Two of these original missions are also fave's, for the snipers out there one level has you in full gillie suit moving through enemy territory with one other sniper, you have to choose targets carefully and even move through an enemy camp with hundreds of troops without being seen and this is truely a superb level for those sniper fans out there.
The other level involves firing from a Hercules (think Transformers movie where they take down the desert scorpion), the Herc circles a battle field and you have a choice of 3 different gunning mounts heavy, medium and light rounds of ammo and have to clear out any enemies before a convoy goes through the area which is brilliant fun as long as you don't hit your own men.

This is a HUGE game which is definately something pleasing to know because i am sick of games with all the looks and style but end so fast (MOH: Airbourne is a prime example). The game is made up of a Prologue (training mission) and then 3 Acts, I am still on Act 1 but it is a huge area with multiple types of missions to keep me busy and stop me from getting bored of repetative open fire missions.

Well worth buying if your PC can handle it

Update

Multiplayer Oh my god its amazing, the graphics and gaming flow is identical to the single player game but with lots of other extras

Design your own character class is a brilliant idea, you start off with the 4 basic classes:
Special Forces
Soldier
Sniper
Demolition

As you kill and capture more areas these classes become upgradeable in the following ways:
-Change your camoflage
-Add camoflage to weapons
-Upgraded Weapons
-New Weapons

You can the add the weapons and camo to your chosen character and make them unique to your own playing skills.

Been playing the demo loads. Expensive month so having to wait for payday to buy it. It's freaking awsome though. Loving it and completely jealouse of you McIcy!!! I hope your thinking of others when popping off a few headshots...
:x

Its an amzing game, just completed a level where I had to move through a city followed by storming and clearing out a TV Station.

The Levels in the hills clearing villages are great too, especially when you get a sniper rifle and storming houses in nightvision is definately a mouth open moment

Looks really good, but I'm not sure how good it'll play online, xbox looks good but CoD never attracted me on the PC. I'd consider getting it but I'm getting Crysis and Ass. Creed instead.

Roadie, I am buying both of those games too, but trust me CoD4 is definately a game you should try especially with some of the NEW levels they have included.

I have updated my review with new level details

Played it round my mates today, Thought it was amazingly done. Although i do think it could have done with a few co-op missions, only because i prefer multiplayer games >.<

Ok I have found a bad point, the game is not as long as I thought it took me just under 10 hours to complete which is a bet of a let down.

However when you do complete it make sure you go into the mission menu as there is a bonus epilogue mission unlocked where you have to move through a plane in flight killing hi-jackers and saving a hostage at the end.

Decided to ditch Crysis and get CoD 4 on xbox, although I have heard the game will take 5-6 hours single player, which is a little poor I must say. But the MP is meant to be really good and to last for ages

My house mate just got the game for his PS3 but I've decided to leave it for now untill I get it for the PC. Then I can play it in ALL it's glory XD

I know this sounds like i live in a faraway place but how "modern" is it? Is it current day or in the future and is it like previous CODs where you switch between countries! Sorry but I dont know an awful lot about it!

Its set in the present day, as for the locations the game starts on a freighter ship in the atlantic ocean, then movies into Russia and Iraq style villages, towns, inside large buildings (tv station raid), nuclear wasteland areas and jungle terrain style missions. So plenty or different areas to keep you entertained.

Multiplayer is good but its not the best out there. CoD 4 multiplayer is one of those games you think you can rush in and kick the crap out of people, its not. patience is rewarded and the game can go slow at times and quickly at others if your up against two or more people, its especially fun when you call in a helicopter to slap the other team around.

Whereas a game like halo is one of those games where the first to the see the other player isn't always the winner (often the case in CoD 4). Halo you can do so many things to bring the game back, often you can do something studily amazing or stupidly idoitic.

CoD MP you have to start from stratch, you start with an AK or a M16 and have to kill and assist to get EXP before you can use other weapons such as the M21 sniper and M4 assault rifle. Halo you can use all weapons right off the bat.

No one said anything in this forum about halo, but if you got an xbox halo > CoD for sure, those analysts that said CoD > Halo were wrong in my opinion. Make no mistake though, the CoD SP is awsome and I'm only on the second mission, the first mission is really sexy for a first mission/introduction, makes you real like your really there, superb.
