AnimeCentral; a new anime TV channel coming to the UK?

With this on every night an Anime Network on every weekend i'm having to resort to recording it an im barely having time to watch it. Who would have thought that the day would come when there would be so much anime on tv you have to struggle to keep up with it all. What strange wonderful days we live in

technically AN is on every night too XD

Why does it keep skipping, I can barely watch any of the episodes it skips ever 2 seconds, even though I'm recording ever repeat, one or two will work okay with just a few missed words but FMA was unwatchable. Also why is the Escaflowne picture quality so blurry and washed out?

The channel seems to be working fine for me, are you sure there's not a problem with your sky box? As for Escaflowne though, you got me :? i noticed it has less quality then the other programes, barring Headmasters but i like to pretend that isn't on the schedule

I had the same problem too. I could not watch Escaflowne or Bleach during 9-10pm because there looks like they had a technical problem. I first thought it was my sky but every other channel was working and the siginal was perfect. So I decided to watch Elfen Lied again on The Anime Network then I watch fullmetal alchemist and the picture was okay.

Appparently this channel is available on sky, channel 199. Unfortunately, my dad fails to find reason to invest in a Sky subscription, we're stuck with a digital box for now :(

You don't need a subscription, just a dish and a satellite set top box. The channel is free to air.

OK interesting. Again I wish I had Sky. Don't exactly have the funds for it.

Sweet, great news. moving house soon so will have to sign up for Sky instead of virgin media
Hi guys!

As mentioned elsewhere; just to confirm since it's launched - this is currently a free-to-air satellite channel (freesat). There are many other freesat channels such as Zone Horror, Sky News, Scuzz, BBC3, Film4 etc.

It is not a "Sky" channel. You do not need to subscribe to "Sky" in order to view this station. No card is required either. You just need the satellite dish and box. (If you have/pay for "Sky" then you will of course receive it.)

You can get a system from Freesat From Sky (£150 one-off cost), or you can buy a second-hand box from eBay for about £20 and a cheap dish from any TV installer. Or wait until BBC launch their own Freesat system next year.

Chances of this coming to Freeview is zero. And Virgin Media seemingly don't care about such specialist channels and quite slow on picking things up. Looks like it's Freesat/Sky or nothing.

Ah cool, cheers for mentioning this, moving to my new house in about a month so not got sky yet.

My house has an old sky dish which is probably analogue, does anyone know if it would be possible to use Freesat using this? £150 is a lot of money for me at the moment any way to cut corners would be great!

Or maybe someone could point be in the direction of what to buy and where from (links would be great!), not very good with this sort of stuff and cannot avoid to be wasting money buying the wrong stuff.

I have a satellite dish from when we used to have sky, just not anything hooked up to it. Where do I obtain one of these set top boxes? Is it £150 like another poster mentioned?

How does this channel make money? It doesn't have ads so im wondering how much longer it can go on for losing money.

We could say the same for other channels such as Scuzz, Chartshow TV, Pop... They are all owned by the same people, and all free to air.

They must get their fund from somewhere else... Which explains the channel being alive.

Channels like Scuzz, Chartshow etc. Do alot of competitions and music video requests. I'd say that's where alot of their money comes from (not to forget adds). I'd hazard a guess at saying their using this profit to run AnimeCentral for the time being. I'm sure it won't be too long before it too starts advertising comps and advertisments.

Done some research into this, for anyone without sky wanting to have anime central are probbly best doing the following:

Subcribe to Sky for 12 months with 1 MIX (£16).

16 x 12 = 192 + 30 install = 222

Go through Quidco (cash back site) to earn back £110, http://www.quidco.com/sky-digital/

222 - 110 quidco - £5 credit = 107

This is what i will be doing when i move house :)

Err, it's already been explained that Anime Central is free-to-air, so all you need is a sky box and a dish and you can view it.. No subscribing to Sky is required.

Ah sorry should have explained better, the sky box can be used as a Freesat box after the subscription ends and so can be used as a way to receive this channel

For me I don’t not have a suitable dish installed or a sky box for Freesat so instead of it costing £150 I can get it for £107.

Obviously you can ge ta cheap sky box and dish and fit it all yourself but i dont want the hassle of doing something like this, so getting sky to do means everything is done correctly.
