UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

It’s not inconceivable that they do fix and supply the advertised product in the CE, and perhaps just use the “faulty” discs for the standard edition?

It's usually the other way around. An error is spotted in a collector's edition and then the disc is fixed for the standard edition, while corrected discs are then sent out to those who purchased the collector's edition (if the error is significant enough).

With the company now choosing to list the standard edition as having SDR presentation, we can only assume that the initial description was made in error and the disc was always meant to have SDR on it, rather than HDR.

But yes, not ideal when people purchased the CE whilst having it advertised as containing HDR10.

About one proper week left in September and still no news on Hathaway.

I know we've been told here about specifics, but right now feels like I unintentionally monkey paw willed "It won't come out in September" into reality.

A week left and still nothing on Hathaway.

At this rate I genuinely won't be surprised if they cancel and just show it at MCM/SLA.

Not blaming AL if that does happen. Bandai Namco have suddenly decided only America matters.

It's hard to justify a long run when it's something readily available on streaming, that unfortunately does lose a lot of your audience.
A real shame we're months behind in getting it and now it'll be a one and done chain exclusive, which basically limits its reach to existing Gundam fans.

EDIT- I don't know if we'll get a special screening for this, so to be safe

(sigh) One month left before my Anime Unlimited membership expires, and they've still only release one title this year that I wanted. I've just had a look back at everything they've released or put up for pre-order in 2026; if the branding was filed off and I didn't know which company it was from, I'd swear this was a Manga Entertainment slate.

It's an odd look that you can buy tickets for the Hathaway screenings but AL aren't actually promoting it.

Is this just being rushed out with a shrug now?
This would bug me a lot less if fans had just stumbled on an inactive page rather than one taking orders. Extensive advertising for both Ghibli and Godzilla, but once again Gundam looks like a contractual obligation they're happy to be shot of.

Making this a double feature with the first movie that never got a theatrical here shows thought was put in (I'd have to guess when they had to start over the specific hurdle was what could cinema offer that Netflix couldn't) but once again I come away feeling this is the begrudged franchise in the AL offices.

I don't think they hate me quite that much.

We've got a Coyote and Road Runner thing going on.

I am not expert but from what little I do know cinemas HATE double bills. Ever wondered why double and triple bills for trilogies and duologies are rare? They are harder to fill as being sat down for 4-6 hours is a tough sell then factoring in adverts (and intermission if they do one) then cleanup the theatre has lost 5-7 hours of a room for a lower attendance. This can be offset with an increase in concession sales, sure, but effectively a double bill needs to make twice the money to be worthwhile for the cinema.

My guess, and it is purely a guess, is few theatres wanted to take the showing because they'd much rather use that space for films that would sell better and do better (like Spiderman). Which is another factor, Gundam pulls an adult audience which buys less concessions and because Spiderman and the Odyssey did so well theatres actually had too little capacity to 'waste' on a niche product.

I suspect, and it is purely a guess, AtA simply couldn't get cinemas to take it, and when they finally could (just one chain Odeon) they had only one showing.

They probably didn't want to publicise such a limited run to such a wide audience. A little of a chicken and egg situation because if they publicised perhaps other cinemas would want to take it.

Meanwhile Ghibli films, even lesser known ones, sell and sell well. I saw Kikki in the cinema only because the first weekend was completely sold out (every showing) so the cinema put on more dates.

AtA will probably never confirm this because they don't want to hurt business partners, it's a bad look, but considering Angel's Egg got so many showings and AtA publicised it I just think it's unfortunate business realities. And they don't want to throw Odeon, Vue, etc under the bus because of how hard a time UK Cinemas have been having and how down the line AtA will want good relationships with these cinemas for other films.

And I will say this compared to a decade ago it feels like Cinemas are showing more anime. A decade ago I'd be lucky to get 2 anime in my cinema per year, now there's 1 a month, sometimes 2, and a lot of them are AtA distributed films While I want more to come, even classic shows edited for cinema, I also don't want an Atari situation whereby to fill the cinemas with anime they reduce the quality.
