UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Some brilliant bargains for the collectors editions, which I previously bought for more money which I thought were bargains at the time. ***kers!
Absolutely, I went into this thinking if there's a flash deal I might pick it up with the 10% and Carole and Tuesday to take it over the £50.

Now I've spent £70 and not even used my code.

Is it just me or are all three pages of the "Back to School Sale - Buy One Get One Free" the same listings?

It has been a long time, my old friend: since Christmas! These sales draw in many... users. Perhaps our meeting again is fitting, given you will soon no longer be the bane of your father; back to school 'n all. Can see why you were drawn back, with that in mind~
In truth, I too was perplexed by multiple buy one get one frees showing. But alas, rarely do I buy standard editions...

On an unrelated note, these prices being so good - £9.99 x2 for Chaika/Kaiji etc - would be most pleasing, were it not for the fact I paid much more after the disappointing xmassu sale these very same sets were hidden from meeee--in coloured boxes, no less.

The way AL devalue themselves to shift unwanted stock continues to do more damage than good: how are we ever to get value from selling, once we have acquired too many cheap boxes? And what point is there in buying if they'll eventually be £10!?!

Kaiji is daylight robbery at those prices, for the standards and CEs.

It would be a shame if they're in the clearance section due to lack of sales because Kaiji is a brilliant series.

Kaiji in US if brain serves got a re-release with a dub. I think Sentai originally released it sub-only. Iirc these are of the outdated sub-only ver. Likely a factor. Maybe?

They also sold that sub-only set in one with both seasons included. AL's x2 sets always did seem a bit odd, with that comparison in mind. Ditto Chaika.

This is correct. I never personally cared for the dub myself, as I watched it subbed originally - but even with the lack of the dub, for £7 for both seasons on the BOGOF offer, you can't go too wrong.

To my sorrow, I already own both the Sentai set and the first AL CE (with my Sentai discs inside). So, I fear I could go ever so slightly too wrong, buying once more, £3.50 or no. Great pricing nonetheless... that I can only see as a pointed insult, given they are essentially giving away that which I paid more to treasure to those that know not the quality nor value contained within. 'Tis deeply saddening. Andrew mocks me yet still. And yet, my only recourse is to buy the S2 CE I own not.

The dub would be more a novelty-incentive: 'tis a series best watched in JP given zawa zawa x1000 and how much time we spend in Kaijj's head; contemplating imminent doom. One would be surprised how that translates into one's native tongue/ears... rarely positively, in my experience. Death Note aside.

Same composer as DN, same wonderful music, on a sidenote. Maybe consider buying the soundtrack instead. 'Twas a tragedy when he got caught smoking weed and had his career end, bizarrely. All the while those found with CP in Japan can go back to their careers, no problemo. There is no justice in this world, truly...

Has anyone been able to compare the Naruto Shippuden releases compared to the Viz ones? Deciding whether to continue with Viz or start again with the Anime Ltd ones if they are an improvement.

I don't know if there's any deep dives into the technical differences, someone more in the know may be able to comment on that.

However, one of the easiest to spot differences is with the subtitling font style.

Also, the openings and endings are seemingly not subtitled on the Anime Limited releases for Shippuden, whereas they are on the VIZ releases - if that's something that's important to you.

It is the same subtitle font/size as on the original Naruto sets:

I too was collecting the VIZ sets, but decided to go with the Anime Limited ones as the packaging/covers are much better in my opinion. Also, there has been a lot said about some of the issues with the VIZ Shippuden sets (for example).

The only thing i would want is the CE for s2 of chaika and that is cause i already have the first one from last years mystery box as i already had the standard editions for both seasons. some decent other titles in there just not anything else i want.

Stocking up on some Makoto Shinkai BDs in the sale. Not sure if I'm ready to experience 5 Centimetres per Second again though...

My-Hime for £7 is an absolute steal too, well worth it if you've never seen it.

Damn being too busy to check it properly until now. Hopefully they restock some of the discounted stuff but I am not optimistic 😅

Really wanted to check out Shirobako.

Edit: and now payment kept messing up, discount code didn't work and Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun is out of stock. Everything is going terribly 😭😂

A lot of good stuff in the sale though. Much to choose from :)

..."Bretty", really? These sales really do revive our more... uniquely named £££ magpie-esque users. We might actually have an active forum if rebranded as an official Anime Limited sales/support board. It would even give Hanners some much need help, and might even motivate Andrew to post!

As a general rule of thumb, Viz releases tend to be inferior in video quality compared to others, but I haven't seen anything about Naruto specifically.

As it happens ceefax, I have seen something about Naruto specifically (well, OG Naruto anyway), for I was once - long ago, as a teenager; a lifetime ago, even - a Naruta...erm, specul fan-person. Anime Limited used different/their own masters for that. Looked much better than when compared directly to Netflix. Big reason why I got those: individual collector's editions AND improved video quality. Win-wins. I'll likely never bother rewatching, but still: winz.

As for Shitpuddin, I know not as don't own it. Couldn't be doing with Bleach/Viz style standard ed 20 ep vanilla releases of 0.5 chapters per ep filler. 'Tis boring and have not the space. I did however take a gander at Bleach's video quality... and was thoroughly unimpressed: an ugly upscale.

Google AI sez this, which suggests the discs will be like the OG Naruto ones rather than Viz C&P:

The UK release of Naruto Shippuden on Blu-ray by Anime Limited (All The Anime) features custom disc encoding and authoring separate from the North American Viz Media release. [1, 2]
  • Independent Encoding: Anime Limited handles their own disc authoring for Naruto Shippuden rather than simply copying the standard US Viz masters, aiming to optimize image clarity for their regional release.

Maybe I am just being naïve I am naïve but a some of them are part 1 and 2 of the same anime so maybe (hopefully) it's because they are hoping to bring out a 'complete' edition.

If you're gon play the role of naive optimist, I must play my role as the dutiful pessimist: not a chance in hellheim they're gonna release a complete CE set, when they're having to give away stock of the CEs for £9.99 a pop (after already giving some away as part of xmassu bundles). Might be a verrrry slim chance of a standard edition, but even then... Kaiji didn't sell well back in day, for Madhouse in Nippon, so in the UK when AL were late to the party... Even I didn't partake, and I'm not averse to the long-nosed men.

Some of their licenses like Kakegurui didn't even get a S2 release, much less an all-in-one re-release. I'd guess the only reason they even bothered releasing S2 Chaika/Kaiji is 'cause they were somewhat taking the pissu by not releasing them together to begin with when Sentai already had. Most had imported long before, which would've hurt sales.
