UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

We're getting Akira twice in the same year?

I know the recent run did well for them, but this just doesn't feel like something you need to push in an already busy theatrical slate. This is why I get annoyed and say AL seem to play favourites with titles.

This isn't a full theatrical run, it's a single, brand-new 35mm print we've had struck and is available for interested cinemas to screen on a one-off basis to tour around - it's just a cool thing to do as part of our celebration of the history and heritage of the film (and as far as I'm aware nobody has done this with an anime movie before even though it's pretty common with classic film more broadly).

In short, it's really not taking resources or time away from anything else we're doing, we just think that it's an awesome thing to do for a film that holds a seminal part in UK (and western) anime history.

Um I'm confused I thought anime limited used a print from the bfi for the new scan?

I'm relatively confident we're getting Hathaway, it's just a matter of patience. And praying Bedford shows it so I don't have to trek out to London.

My pipedream is this is the Christmas they say "Gundam 0080 is in hand and ready to deliver in time for Christmas." It's a 6 episode OVA set during the season, I continue to feel we should have had it well before now.

Has anyone from mainland EU ordered something from AL since July 1st? I see shipping costs increased yet again and now include the low value parcel tax. That tax is just €3 though, yet the price increased by £5 (wasn't it £15 before? It's £20 now). However, still no IOSS in place, so I don't trust that this tax handling will actually go well and there won't be the additional fee on top of the usual handling fee and taxes.
Anyone dealt with this yet?

It's been 5 years and still no IOSS integration, it reflects kinda badly to be honest.

This new tax is directly leveraged against the shipper rather than the customer, so it's all handled and charged before any item reaches a customer - we don't make the laws here, we just have to adhere to them.

As for IOSS, this is actually something I'm working on right now - there are legal t's to cross and i's to dot, but I am very much keen to make the webshop as frictionless as possible for overseas order as soon as we can, so hopefully I'll have news soon!

A little bit of a random question: I seem to remember reading that All the Anime had the acquired the rights to Studio Ghibli's Catalogue, which I would assume includes new physical releases of all their films.

My brother was asking about it, but not sure now if I've made that up in my head or not? 😅

GKids have acquired them, Anime Limited as another branch of the same company will be releasing them on home video.
