UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Current plan is Frontier first and then Delta - this is dependant upon how things pan out with materials etc etc etc, but we know that a lot of people (not just me!) are hungry for Frontier on home video so this will likely be our primary focus.

Awesome. The official Macross channel on Youtube has put up the first episode for Frontier, Delta, and 7. Having never seen any of them, I watched all of them to see what they're like. I liked Frontier a lot, thought 7 was kind of dumb with one particularly obnoxious character, and I couldn't make it through the episode of Delta.

So I'll be buying Macross Frontier but passing on Delta. I hope that you release a standard edition besides whatever deluxe/collectors/etc. version(s). If the latter is going to be all there is, I very much hope there is a standard-ish size option as opposed to a huge thing like the Macross Plus set. :)

Anime Limited has now listed Crunchyroll titles up through the September releases, so are up to date again after having nothing beyond April listed for so long. As of right now, the preorder page still says April in large text at the top though.

Since I've been griping about this I thought I should acknowledge they've fixed it now. :)

Yep, normal service should be resumed here - we had some incredibly mundane admin stuff we had to clear up around new third-party products that I won't bore anyone with, but that's now resolved and so normal service should now resume for Crunchyroll and MVM titles moving forward.

In fairness, we have released one or two Gundam titles in the past decade... ;)

A couple of things I want to weigh in on here:

First of all, Gundam isn't "a license" in the same way that Macross isn't "a license" - every individual title in that franchise is their own license, and is treated as its own project from that starting point through to the release of the product. So while yes, there are licensor relationship angles inherent to generalising around franchises, it doesn't really tie to the reality of how we acquire and handle content, and I would encourage people to remember that as we simply can't talk in general terms here.

Second of all, on the "Gundam silence" (Gundam Silence is a pretty good Gundam name, now I think about it, but I digress...). Above everything, I want to make a personal apology from myself on that front, as I know I've been at the head of the "Gundam news soon" reassurance, and I very much appreciate and am keenly aware that hasn't materialised, and if anything has backfired spectacularly. While I like to keep everyone as in the loop as I can on things, when something takes far longer than initially expected then that attempt at transparency can have a negative effect, and I recognise that we're at a stage where hinting that things are coming simply isn't going to cut it any more.

All I can really say off the back of that is that we haven't turned our backs on Gundam, nor have we deprioritised it - there are a lot of considerations at work here, but we are actively looking to keep things moving, and I am certainly an internal champion on us doing so (and I'm not the only one either by any length, as Gundam is something that we all want to actively continue to be the home of). As folks have noted, Gundam SEED FREEDOM has been BBFC cert'ed for home video release, so that should tell you it's being actively worked on - beyond that, there'll be more news when we have things in a place where they're ready to be talked about.
1. Thank you for the involved reply.

2. Again, I 100% am not trying to be an ass and put stress out there. It's just a very frustrating situation where over several years now we've more than once had official voices say "More Gundam incoming!...Ok, no it isn't. But we totally will in this time period!...Oop, not happening there either." I'm aware there are any number of factors at play but when that's been the situation multiple times it's hard to not feel strung along. I assure you everytime I pipe up about this at the forefront of my mind is "Do not come off as some unreasonable fanboy...". Just, again, past a certain point it becomes hard not to come off prickly despite best intentions.

I almost had a heart attack - I haven't been keeping up with the recent announcements and thought I had missed Naruto CE 4 as it said 'sold out' 😫 - but it's just a quirk of the website when something is 'coming soon'.

I would have had a very sad looking CE Naruto box with a missing CE set, lol. Panic over. I need to set an alert on my phone to remind myself to pre-order it when it goes live.

And ultimately, this is why we'd rather quietly work away in the background until something is concrete and at the stage where we can announce it and be definitive about the whole thing - it's never been our intention to string people along, so we'd rather not share information that leaves people disappointed when things take far longer than anticipated.*

* Like SPY x FAMILY: Code White before anyone asks, which is another example that is well underway but held up by unforeseen circumstances that are taking a while to resolve.

As you released Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna and also as a company were responsible for the very limited UK cinema release - are there still plans on the Adventure 02: The New Beginning physical release?

I'm going to get the bd set of Blood+ to replace my old dvd set. As for Macross Delta and Frontier I have the jpbd sets for both but since I got the jp set of Frontier to use for making bdremuxs I might just wait and get the AL set (if it's not outrageously expensive) and save myself the trouble. I doubt the AL release of Delta will be better than my jpbd set so I'll pass on that one.

The main thing that might tempt me to get AL's Delta set is if they include the 26 short OAVs from the JP set's special features disc, since those weren't translated. Some are hilarious even viewed raw, but my Japanese sucks, so I can only understand one word in ten.

A good artbook would be tempting too; I wasn't too impressed by the booklet in the JP set mostly being seiyuu photos.

Just got a shipping notification for my last 2 AL xmas sale orders from 1st of december, both shipped by fedex rather than royal mail.

Which sounds great.

Except they charge around €18 for "customs clearance" rather than the (still high) €10 of our national carrier.
Per package.

So, the 2 orders came to about £166 total, this will incur almost £35 in VAT and just under £33 in fees on top of that, £68 extra in total.

Not gonna lie, a wee bit pissed off about this, if AL don't at the very least offer a refund of the UK VAT then I'm just done with ordering from them directly.

And the kicker?
These 2 orders were shipped within days of the new fulfillment center re-opening after xmas, so if they had actually stayed open until the 24th of december rather than closing down on the 18th, there is at least a chance these orders could have been shipped before the new year

Yup, I agree that it is quite irritating that additional fees were paid as a result of the use of FedEx instead of Royal Mail. A sense of injustice arises. The item could have been shipped earlier, which would have spared you the inconvenience. Should they fail to assist with the VAT, I would also stop purchasing from them.......

You were replying to a 2021 post...
After Brexit happened AL automatically removed UK VAT* for every new overseas order placed in their store - and Anime on Line & Amazon UK are doing the same since.

Still, it's a bummer that both AL & AoL still don't offer advance payments for Import VAT which would avoid carrier fees, but at least AL defaults / AoL opts on request to combined shipments, so handling fees only once

* UK VAT is 0% for books anyway

We don't have any plans around it at this time.

I noticed Southampton got stiffed YET AGAIN with Summer Wars and Wolf Children cinema showings.
Both Picturehouse and Showcase are showing them elsewhere though!
Strongly worded email sent to Showcase, I'll let Picturehouse off as they only have 2 screens, but Showcase has them in double figures!
