UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Yeah I can’t see why it’s $100 more than the SE, also no amaray or digipack means no from me because I’ve seen the perfect blue idea and I don’t like when I have to get my hand in to pull out a disc making me do that means a no from a CE when an SE is an option potentially and no confirmed UK SE is really concerning if the US gets an SE and we don’t..,,

The reason one is announced for the US so far and not the UK is purely that they are very physical retail driven still for bigger scale shows (which B is). So they have to be listed early in short - like all our Ultimates we have a standard edition planned for the UK too, it’s just not been listed yet just like the Ultimate!

As for the price, I can understand your confusion at the $100 / £79.99 if you assume we make all that back but keep in mind that’s retail price. What happens before we get a penny is:
  • Retail takes a % (they have to pay the bills too!)
  • Distribution takes a %
  • Logistics costs come after
All things said and done, you’re lucky to get 40% of the above "extra amount" amount back in as a company. With that, before making a penny of cash to spend on marketing, staff, more cool licenses, etc - you have to pay for:
  • A license for the Soundtrack rights: Musicians are people too and you’ve got to pay more to cover the usage! There are also additional fees to pay on every audio disc printed, this can go as high as nearly 10% of your wholesale price.

  • Book design costs: Designers and writers need to eat, sleep and breathe as well! This kind of project is time intensive and requires very specific skilled folks to pull off well (this one amazing too, can’t wait to show more of it).

  • Books cost money to print: This is an A4, 160 page hardback book inside a rigid slipcase to protect it. This puts it alongside its comparable upcoming releases such as Last of Us 2’s hardback book at £71.39 SRP, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla hardback book at £66.99 SRP.

  • Blu-rays’s mean VAT: When you factor in at least in the UK that VAT is also applicable to a book with Blu-Rays and music inside and the books referenced above don’t, that also explains some of it.
We have factor all this in when setting a retail price and we totally understand when outside our normal LE pricing that there needs to be a more affordable option too :). We pick works we’re passionate about with available materials to really do something special with them. Our goal with that is to give people that feel the same way the chance to buy something like that.

Hope this helps make sense of it!

For some reason I didnt think we were getting a box to store the series and film together. Definitely a nice surprise for me!

And a bundle of all 3 for £105
Well that's an instant preorder.

The good thing is at least this is less stress for @Hanners

"You see, HC, he has been most vocal on the subject of the Gundam 00 movie. "Where's the 00 movie? "When are you going to release the movie?" "Why aren't you releasing the movie now?" And so on."

If I had to guess the series is out because way too long and bbfc. But I'd love to have it. Germany has the series (counts as beloved nostalgia classic), but it's dub-only unfortunately.

I'd pay pretty much any amount AL chose to charge for Anne (or 3,000 Leagues in Search of Mother or Heidi or Future Boy Conan) but I take your point, I'm probably not representative of the population! If only the Japanese sets had subtitles...
